What Is Wrong With Coulter?

Published by AJStrata at 7:35 am under All General Discussions

I was at CPAC last year when Coulter bombed with her stupid and irresponsible comment about ‘ragheads’. A comment that stunned the crowd and was really hurtful to all the Muslim groups there at the Exhibit Hall to show solidarity with the War On Terror. From that day on Coulter was damaged goods and had moved into the camp of Conservatives no one wants to relate to (think David Duke). She has apparently cemented her position this year by going into another mean spirited, stupid tirade:

Democratic Party boss Howard Dean demanded that Republican presidential candidates denounce conservative columnist Ann Coulter after she referred to Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards as a ‘faggot’ during a speech Friday at a national conservative gathering.

Coulter, who was addressing the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington, D.C., said:

“I was going to have a few comments on the other Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, but it turns out you have to go into rehab if you use the word ‘faggot,’ so I – so kind of an impasse, can’t really talk about Edwards.”

What is it with Coulter? Has her star faded so much now she has to go the path of foul mouthed comedians to get attention? Edwards is opportunistic fraud. So why not just say what he is instead of using a deroguatory term which doesn’t even apply to Edwards? Coulter has talented wit and great ways to emphasize the ridiculousness of some positions and comments. She doesn’t need to add this trash talking to her ‘act’ to impress people. Just like Madonna and her wonderful voice diminished with her near-sex acts on stage – what is the point? I have no problem agreeing with Dean on this one.

Update: Good round up of comments over at Jules Crittendon’s blog. Anne definitely bombed out big time.

She’s a narcissist with borderline personality disorder, resulting in poor anger management. She is clearly a miserable person who just wants to share her pain:

Borderline personality disorder (BPD) is a serious mental illness characterized by pervasive instability in moods, interpersonal relationships, self-image, and behavior. This instability often disrupts family and work life, long-term planning, and the individual’s sense of self-identity. NIMH-funded neuroscience research is revealing brain mechanisms underlying the impulsivity, mood instability, aggression, anger, and negative emotion seen in BPD. Studies suggest that people predisposed to impulsive aggression have impaired regulation of the neural circuits that modulate emotion.

    Sounds like Ann.

No, Ann has always specialized in paying the Left in their own coin……including nasty comments

Unfortunately, she tends not to fine-tune her rhetoric to the audience.

Ann sure seems to have these verbal malfunctions all the time.

She Does tend to go overboard, but at the same time, I’m not to fond of todays political correctness either. In my younger days, you could tell polish jokes, italian jokes, black jokes, etc. Todays they are all unexceptable. I remember a funny line from Laugh In in the late 1960’s. “Please return the stewardess to her origional upright position”. You could not say that today. Of course, today, they aren’t called stewardeses either. Like secretaries are now executive assistance.
And judging by her Book Sales, Hits to her Web Site, TV apperances, no her star isn’t fading. But more comments like Fridays may lead to it. I personaly like about 60% of her collums she writes.
    According to Cpt. Ed:

Ann Coulter is speaking at the moment, and drawing a huge crowd — with longer lines than those for the Rudy Giuliani. She’s definitely one of the stars here at CPAC.

    Also he says this:

Bottom line: Coulter’s remark was indefensible. She had the right to say it, but that doesn’t make her right for saying it, and she deserves every bit of criticism she’s getting.

I’d agree with both. She is a big hit, and she should tone it down.

You don’t get it. She is not a political figure and therefore not bound by the same “niceties” required of politicos. She’s about selling books which have made her a multi millionare. The more outrageous the coments the more she sells. Madonna just finished her biggest grossing tour.

Nutroots double standards strike again: Responses to Coulter versus responses to Stark -and Marcottegate- don’t add up…

Jules Crittenden, among other bloggers, writes today about the latest Ann Coulter outrage, this time for calling John Edwards the “F” word (Sean Hackbarth has the audio here).

IF and that’s a big IF, Ann was saying Edwards was a faggot, then she should not have done so. I read and understand the comment more along the lines of

“I was going to have a few comments on the other Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, but it turns out you have to go into rehab if you use the politically incorrect word so I – so kind of an impasse, can’t really talk about Edwards.”

    words in bold I changed.

I think it was a joke and actually had I been there, I’m sure I would have laughed at it. I think the interpretations given to it by the far lefties are not the same interpretations they would give to a speech given by Jon Cary or Hillary.

  9. Carol_Hermanon 03 Mar 2007 at 12:20 pm

NOTHING is wrong with Coulter! She’s just opening doors to humor, previously held open by Lenny Bruce.

I’m glad the gal can still laugh!

And, if the crowd, here, couldn’t handle the word “faggot” … said in jest; then the CROWD has the problems. Not the lady.

DOWN WITH PC! It’s the poison from the left that has swamped and dried out the humorous bent of the American people.

  10. Bikerkenon 03 Mar 2007 at 1:05 pm

This was just plain stupid. Whether or not Ann is a politician, the things she says are painted onto the side of the GOP elephant and she should realize that. I believe Edwards has been married for a long time so theres no little hint of possible truth to it to make it funny. This remark is going to be replayed two million times between now and November 08 to make the GOP look like a bunch of childish gay haters and it will have a devastating effect on the swing voters. Stupid!

  11. Carol_Hermanon 03 Mar 2007 at 1:37 pm

Ann Coulter, here. And, Liberace. Have something in common.

They’ll both cry all the way to the bank.

You can’t be funny without offending someone.

And, if you’re in the public eye you learn to develop tough, tough skin.

Bush is the only exception to this rule.

  12. dennisaon 03 Mar 2007 at 3:21 pm

    “Sounds like Ann. ”

Sure it does, Soothie. Sounds more like the people who rant endlessly about Bush on the leftist websites.

  13. dennisaon 03 Mar 2007 at 3:23 pm

On the other hand, we just had a spate of comments on the internet regreting that Cheney wasn’t assassinated. That demonstrates bad taste, bad judgment, bad karma, and maliciousness bordering on the dangerous.

  14. Terryeon 03 Mar 2007 at 4:23 pm

I have complained many times about the nastiness and mean spiritedness on the left. I am not a hypocrite. I think Ann Coulter is a self obsessed obnoxious snob. This is not about being politically correct. This was not a Polish joke for heavens sake, she called someone a faggot at a Conservative political conference. Geez, how stupid is that?

  15. momdear1on 03 Mar 2007 at 4:52 pm

Oh my goodness. Aren’t we all outraged that Ann would use the Faggot word when referring to a Democrat? Wasn’t it the Democrat lefties who got that court ruling saying it is all right to lie about political figures and there would be no grounds for suing for libel? I, or groups I support and belong to such as Christians, have been called every kind of nasty name and accused of every kind of evil act without anyone getting so hyper ventilated over it. Get off Anne’s case. She is a breath of fresh air. Someone who dares say what she thinks the way she wants to say it. We sould all have her courage instead of cowering like frightened women lest we offend the chronically offended . Dhemmies, dummies, et al. Shame on all of you.

  16. Terryeon 03 Mar 2007 at 5:36 pm

    Mom:;

I see so since the lefties can act like morons then that makes it ok for Ann to use the faggot word. Oh yeah a breath of fresh air. Maybe next year she will call Hillary a lesbian. How daring and clever and oh so funny.

    Disgusting. And juvenile.

  17. Terryeon 03 Mar 2007 at 5:41 pm

BTW, Ann Coulter is a rich woman from a privileged family. I have heard her use that wit to make fun of people {like me} who went to state universities because we did not have the money or the connections to go to Ivey League schools like Ann did. She has probably never done a load of laundry or worried about her bills…she is a rich pampered brat who seems to think that she can just walk into someplace and take over and to hell with the people there.

I don’t like people like this. As far as I am concerned Ann Coulter is not a lot different from Al Gore.

  18. UrbanGroundson 03 Mar 2007 at 6:28 pm

Ann Coulter has Jumped the Shark…

Many leftwing bloggers have hurled much more vile and inflamatory rhetoric at the right than Ann’s “faggot” or “raghead” remarks (hello, Amanda Marcotte and Shake’s Sister and Prof. Ward Churchill — I’m l…

    Momdear:

If Ann has the right to say what she did, then so do the rest of us. And what a number of us have to say is that what she said was unfunny and unhelpful and unnecessary. If we’re not happy when a leftist says “faggot,” then we’re not going to be happy when a rightie uses the word either.

  20. Carol_Hermanon 04 Mar 2007 at 12:04 am

Let’s see? The conservatives have a dog and pony show.

And, Ann Coulter is invited to entertain. She draws crowds. And, her glib tongue made it into the headlines POST THE EVENT!

While the dog and pony show got nowhere. Everyone’s where they were. Touting polls. (When they add naked dancers to the poles, people will begin to nottice.)

Other than that? Ann Coulter is a breath of fresh air!

And, she even knew how to deliver that line. She hesitated and said, “It’s gonna make her go into rehab.”

Imagine that! You don’t even have to get drunk, anymore, often, to think you need rehab. You just have to use words on the PC list. Heck, even George Carlin didn’t have “faggot” among the “forbidden seven.” And, we don’t even have seven sexual parts that you could refer to “to make babies.”

As to the catty-catty-chatty-ness of it all? You’re surprised? You’ve never heard of JEALOUSY? How about the “green eyed monster?”

Well, whatever keeps ya up at night, go see if I even care. And, you bet. When Coulter writes her columns, I read them. And, when Drudge has her on … on Sunday nights … it makes his wonderful radio show even more interesting.

Of course, John Edwards is such a fraud, he’s lucky all Coulter said was that he was a faggot. That’s not the reason to keep him out of the White House, ya know?

  21. DubiousDon 04 Mar 2007 at 12:35 am

Given her previous “ragheads” comment, why was Coulter invited back to CPAC this year?

Is there ANYONE left in the Republican party who has even half a brain?

  22. wileyon 04 Mar 2007 at 12:58 am

I dunno … over the top? yeah, sure, but Edwards is very prissy.
Ann is witty, and she stretched too far to make a humorous point about how absurd the left is with “rehab” for calling someone a faggot. I think the Good-doc is right that she is mainly about selling her books, keeping her name in the headlines. But there’s no denying she is very astute and a real conservative, and her columns are enjoyable reading. But sometimes, this being a case in point, the backlash to her comments harm the same conservative agenda that she espouses.

  23. For Enforcementon 04 Mar 2007 at 2:14 am

“she called someone a faggot at a Conservative political conference. Geez, how stupid is that?”

I don’t think she was calling him a faggot, you need to read the context. she was just saying you have to have rehab if you use the wrong word, such as faggot. She didn’t say he was a faggot. It’s all in context.

a lot of BDS people say worse things about Bush every day and no one gets their panties in a bunch.

  24. crosspatchon 04 Mar 2007 at 12:58 pm

In order to “get” Ann’s comment you would have had to have seen an interview she did some time ago on Fox. TR Knight of Grey’s Anaotmy fame went into rehab after calling another member of the cast a “faggot”. The discussion was on entertainment and political celebrities using rehab to gain “teflon” after a scandal. Another example was Gavin Newsom entering rehab after getting caught in an affair with his friend and campaign manager’s wife.

She said she would have to go to rehab if she called Edwards a “faggot” as a reference to the Knight and other celebs going into rehab after scandals. Now in order to complete the joke, which few apparently “got” she should immediately check herself into rehab.

    Flopping Aces has more details.

  25. crosspatchon 04 Mar 2007 at 1:02 pm

It was a reference to TR Knight calling a fellow cast member on Grey’s Anatomy “a faggot” and then entering rehab. Problem is most of the people didn’t “get” the connection.

    See http://www.floppingaces.net/2007/03/03/ann-coulter-the-lightening-rod/ for more details.

  27. crosspatchon 04 Mar 2007 at 1:13 pm

Sorry, that was Isiah Washington, not TR Knight

Ann’s comments weren’t really about Edwards, they were about celebrities and politicians getting into scandals and then going into rehab, like Knight or like Gavin Newsom entering rehab after getting caught in an affair. You would have had to have seen an interview she did on Fox some weeks ago to “get” the statement. Apparently not enough people saw the interview to understand the context of the comment. Curt has a good article on it at Flopping Aces.

While discussing politicians and celebrities who “run to rehab in times of crisis,” earlier today on Fox News Channel, conservative pundit Ann Coulter mocked the idea that someone should have to be “rehabilitated” for using a word that is considered a slur against gays.

“You use the word ‘faggot’ and you’re going into rehab?” Coulter asked incredulously on Fox’s Live Desk A-List.

The best selling Godless author was referring to Grey’s Anatomy star, Isaiah Washington, who used the word twice in reference to co-star T.R. Knight. Knight later publicly “came out” when word broke out about the on-set scuffle the two actors had.

  28. momdear1on 04 Mar 2007 at 4:11 pm

Just when did the people of this country get their priorities in such a mess that there is now more outrage about the words used to express ideas than is generated by dangerous and evil actions advocated and carried out by malcontents, terrorists and troublemakers? The Chronically Offended demand full protection for their rights to openly criticize in whatever terms they choose. ie: The N words , openly and without hesitation or criticism, refer to the W words as Honkies, Crackers, Rednecks, etc, and all women regradless of race, as Bitches and hoes without anyone taking offense. And the Ragheads can call all non ragheads infidels, devils, the Great Satan and the sons of pigs and monkies, and advocate slitting their throats and cutting off their heads, and it appears to be perfectly acceptable., while anyone who dares use the RH words is labeled a phobe in need of rehab. Frankly, I am tired of all this pseudo outrage over words. Sticks and stones and guns and symitars can break your bones and kill you, but words alone will never hurt you. And hurt feelings and humiliation is not on a par with demands for monetary reparation for past trangressions by our ancestors, whether real and imagined , and lopping off heads or stoning people to death.

  29. bloodyspartanon 04 Mar 2007 at 5:27 pm

This is a perfect example of why the republicans are a bunch of losing cowards.

Anne says a few off color words and we all quail in fear of what the left will say.

Reminds me of a few lines in the empire strikes back.
Especially ” That is why you fail”
