Another al Qaeda Leader Nabbed In Iraq
The top al Qaeda leader in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul has been apprehended according to breaking Iraqi news reports. Add that news to previous reports here, here, here and here and the picture doesn’t look good for al Qaeda.
I would disagree with the following two statements in that report:
“Mosul, the capital of the Province of Nineveh, is a major insurgent stronghold with anti-U.S. rebels in control of several districts in the city and numerous outlying villages and towns.”
“The restive city has defied both U.S. and Iraqi authorities whose repeated military operations to end violence there have all but failed.”
Mosul is one of our great successes in Iraq. As far as I know the “rebels” are not in control of even a single district in the city or any of the surrounding towns. It was General Petraeus’ success in Mosul that got him the position as commander of MNF-I.
I’d say that both Petraeus and Bush had alot to do with the positive news as a result of the surge. Bush having serious talks with Al-Maliki that Al-Maliki needs to stop defending Sadr and become neutral to these tribes.
Hopefully, we will soon see these copperheads withering away.

I will take Michael Yon’s evaluation of the Mosul situation over the MSM an day of the week.
