Iran Is Training Terrorists For Iraq

Published by at 10:04 am under All General Discussions

It seems the Mahdi Army has splintered, with about half of them now agents of Iran:

The Shiite militia known as the Mahdi Army is breaking into splinter groups, with as many as 3,000 gunmen now financed directly by Iran and no longer loyal to the firebrand cleric Moqtada Sadr, adding a potentially even more deadly element to Iraq’s violent mix.

Two senior militia commanders told The Associated Press that hundreds of these fighters have crossed into Iran for training by the elite Quds Force, a branch of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard thought to have trained Hezbollah guerrillas in Lebanon and Muslim fighters in Bosnia and Afghanistan.

At the Pentagon, a military official confirmed there were signs the Mahdi Army was splintering. Some are breaking away to attempt a more conciliatory approach with the Americans and the Iraqi government, others are moving in a more extremist direction, the official said.

While the reporting makes this sound as a bad thing, the truth is we are pushing people to take sides. Now the Mahdi army is half its size with many clear enemies of Iraq which can be dealt with. Divide and Conquer – it still works. In Iraq I get the impression the saying goes “either you are with us or you are dead”. Just a guess.

I agree, AJ. I am seeing Islamist militants turning on each other as never before as they scramble for what must be diminishing resources. As the money and pool of most talented leaders shrinks, the groups are left to squabble over what remains and the leadership that remains is probably not as well equipped to manage the situation. The most brilliant of them have been killed or captured and the groups are likely running with their second and third string of leaders by now. The good news for us is that the news for them only gets worse going forward.

    Shiite Militia may be disintegrating
That’s the headline blaring across an AP story that went up tonight. Here’s the kicker though – the article breathlessly informs us that this is a TERRIBLE thing!
Apparently, with Muqtada hiding out in I…

The coalition needs to somehow guard the border and shoot or bomb anything that moves coming from Iran or Syria either. This is the only way to stop these people from returning to do their deadly deeds.

I wonder what the French want now. If our government puts any trust in them, they are dumb. The French are back stabbers and always have a reason for their acts. Watch, they will soon demand something we don’t want to give them.
