First, as I recall, election '06 was about the "culture of corruption" riding on the heels of the well timed and flogged Foley scandal, financial indictments relating to the Abramoff case, and other assorted outing of gay priests, etc... "vote for change".

On the Iraq issue...the DNC was very quiet and becoming more uncomfortable answering hard questions about their positions on it. God knows Hillary has flopped around like a bass on a tom-tom.
There was a HUGE rift in the DNC position on Iraq..and the Dean/Pelosi wing of surrender at all cost or force a pullout got "squelched" for the '06 election. They decided to leverage the "scandal" angle and make it about corruption, run more conservative candidates in general, and stay away from any definitive position on defunding, or forcing a pullout..etc.

Representation is one of the basic concepts neccessary to understand (or misunderstandings as the case may currently be) the theory of separation of powers/responsiblities via different branches of gov. The President, is the only person on a national level to be directly answerable to all individual voters. Across all states, all localities. You might agree, or not, with what any individual represetnative or senator says...but the truth is...despite what "they" would like you to believe..they can ONLY speak for their districts or states..despite the fact that some of them think they do otherwise. The fact that they are trying to usurp the role of the presidency in shaping or forming national policy...is not only absurd, it's unconstitutional..and in some cases..criminal. You want to talk about voter disenfranchisement? There is no greater case than this.

You might disgree with the president...but he IS the one person who is and can be held accountable by the entire nation on election day. That's a different pool to play in. Any one of these nut cases, might think they have a lot of support, that everybody agrees with them, becuase their entire locality loves them, supports them, or they get letters of solidarity or support from outside their district, etc. it's a different ballgame when you go to play on the big field. Ask Howard Dean..who tried to go down south after the election '04 to explain to the dumb rednecks why they are stupid and why they should vote for DNC candidates in next time.

These arrogant pricks..think that because other people didn't vote the way they do, or think the same way they do on the issues, that they must therefore be uneducated, or..(name your favorite moonbat personal insult here). Because certainly, if they understood things ..the way they do in Sanfrancisco..they'd of course, be right there with them, cheering their local rep Pelosi on, agreeing with her, and people like hers efforts, to yank the wheel of policy out of the president's hands..and slam her spike heel into his foot to stop that car anyway she can.

They will scream at you, and pull at your hair...because they'd do "anything", anything to change the fact that G Bush ended up in the WH in 2000 and was "re-elected" in '04. Of course, nut jobs like Pelosi, etc..aren't going to be able to do that. They dont' have the votes nationally to do it. So, in lieu of that, they have come up with a new idea....hold the executive branch hostage, and usurp the power, and role, from it...while not taking any of the responsilbity for it...in congress.

It's a brilliant strategy (hostage taking). It does work....just ask Iran.
But, I can assure you, that America as a whole will not stand for it.
We'll have a civil war of our own first.

Ordi,

USA Today also went after San Fran Nan, of course they allowed Rep . Lanto to write an opposing view to counter their Opinion piece.

.....

Yeah and Lanto should be ashamed of himself (fat chance of that) and share the same cell. How blatant does he have to be when he said that the Dems were imposing their own "alternative" foreign policy? What is it going to take for people to realize that these stupid people will push their agenda brazenly until and unless someone stops them?

Nah, Bush should pardon Pelosi for violating the Logan Act. He could do it right away and not wait 2 years for an investigation and Grand Jury. It would be a sure sign of her guilt and cause a major stink about her crimes without having to listen to them whine about a Republican witch hunt. It would be ironic to listen to them debate about Pelosi's guilt for a law written about a pacifist trying to get the US to surrender to France.

Man, I hope they DO try to pull off their coup. Let them be exposed!!
Bigtime!

The American people do not like cheaters/imposters.

These Leftists have shredded every tradition of civility in this country. They destroy everything they touch...just ask women who need protection from sexual harrassment in the workplace, or african americans or Africans who's children are dying from diseases that could be eradicated with the use of pesticides...or let's not forget the levy overhaul in NewOrleans that was obstructed by the "enviromentalists" a.k.a. communists.

I think the Wapo going after Pelosi is pretty remarkable in and of itself.

This is probably why they are going after Gonzales, they want to put the DoJ on the defensive so that they can claim they are being picked on if the Justice Department so much as sneezes in their direction. And of course there are socalled conservatives out there who just had to help them go after Gonzales.

I can remember when Democrats had majorities over 100 in the Congress and over 20 in the Senate. This is still real tight and I think they should keep that in mind before they try to pull of their little coup.

They like to play it off as if they have some overwhelming mandate from the people but I believe I read after the elections last November that the House was decided by less than 1% of the vote. The Senate by even less. It was very close, the Democrats won by the skin of their teeth. What was the margin of victory in the Virginia senate seat, for example? It was tiny.

The Democrats are overreaching here and are going to reverse the votes of many who gave them a chance. Many voted D because before the elections, the Dems were saying we needed more troops. They were voting for a "surge" not a pullout. You didn't hear ANY of this talk of cutting off funds and setting certain dates for withdrawal before the election. All the talk ahead of the polls was for more troops. Bush heard it loud and clear and we have our surge.

I don't have much faith in the DOJ or anyone in charge of this government but it is CRYSTAL CLEAR.....something needs to be done about this Congress!! It is putting us on a collision course with absolute DISASTER!!!

.....

http://opinionjournal.com/editorial/feature.html?id=110009903

"Democrats took Congress last fall in part by opposing the war in Iraq, but it is becoming clear that they view their election as a mandate for something far more ambitious--to wit, promoting and executing their own foreign policy, albeit without the detail of a Presidential election."

"Their intentions were made plain this week with two remarkable acts by their House and Senate leaders. Majority Leader Harry Reid endorsed Senator Russ Feingold's proposal to withdraw from Iraq immediately, cutting off funds entirely within a year. He promised a vote soon, as part of what the Washington Post reported would also be a Democratic offensive to close Guantanamo, reinstate legal rights for terror suspects, and improve relations with Cuba."

"Meanwhile, Speaker Nancy Pelosi made her now famous sojourn to Syria, donning a head scarf and advertising that she was conducting shuttle diplomacy between Jerusalem and Damascus. If there was any doubt that her trip was intended as far more than a routine Congressional "fact-finding" trip, House Foreign Affairs Chairman Tom Lantos put it to rest by declaring that, "We have an alternative Democratic foreign policy. I view my job as beginning with restoring overseas credibility and respect for the United States."

.....

GOOD GOD!!! This is FAR worse than I even imagined in my worst nightmares. What in the hell is happening to this country??
