Cheney Is Right, Democrats Will Fold On Iraq Conditions
VP Cheney came out and predicted, correctly I would say, that Democrats will give the President a clean bill for funding our troops.
Vice President Dick Cheney says he is “willing to bet” that Democratic lawmakers will back down and approve a war-spending bill that doesn’t call for U.S. troops to leave Iraq. Top Democratic leaders shot back that Cheney has lost all public credibility.
There is little doubt he is right. Primarily because both houses already passed the funding, so there is no reason not to do so again. And the limitations in each Bill were non-binding on the Commander-in-Chief. So the Dems would have to explain why they are risking lives on language which is not binding anyhow? Another fair question would be “why not pass the limitations and timetables and surrender plans” stand alone! If the country is behind the Dems (which it clearly is not) then passing the surrender terms should be a piece of cake for Dems. And all the time The Surge is showing results, outreach to the Sunnis over the past year is showing results, and al Qaeda’s mindless murdering of Iraqi Muslims is showing results. The picture in Iraq is one in which ALL BUT TWO provinces will be under Iraqi control, with Anbar soon to follow suite. So what excuse do the Dems have left? None. They passed the money so they can do it again. If they are so confident in their surrender plans in the face of large, positive changes in Iraq they can pass those stand alone.
Or in reality they cannot and are BS’ing America. Well, prove it Dems. Pass the funding and then pass the surrender terms to al Qaeda – if you have the votes it will happen! The only question will be how much political damage will the Dems suffer before they scream ‘uncle’?
Oh, once the dems cave in, they would have lost all credibility with their left. Guess what…will they start a new party?
It would be good to see them caving in to a clean war bill.
