Stick By Gonzales Or Become A Minority Party

Published by at 9:00 am under All General Discussions

Republicans need to stop acting like they could do better (especially the media talking heads) and simply stick by Gonzales. Their all a bunch of peanut gallery nags. If Gonzales did nothing wrong then he did nothing wrong. You don’t have to like him to stick by basic principles. And you don’t have to caveat your support with long winded listings of what you didn’t like about his testimony. Stop diving into the marginal nothingness and just support the guy. If he is part of the Consevative coalition he deserves support. Now we all know why Reagan was so wise with his 11th commandment ‘though shall not speak poorly about conservatives’. The Dems are trying to be the biggest losers on the planet and the Reps are nitpicking perfectionist nags. And a lot of in the independent middle are gettings sick of both sides.

Can we find more mature grownups (like Reagan and Bush and Leiberman ) to lead these parties? Why would anyone ally in a governing majority with either of these parties?

I find some Republicans as sanctimonious as the Dems. It is sickening. This is not about how someone did a job but pure politics. Where are the Republicans? Buying into the charade hook, line and sinker. What a disgrace. Thank God for Hatch.

    Yes. Yes, yes, yes.

And as I said elsewhere this morning: Even if you assume that Gonzales went beyond simply embarrassing himself and has actually committed a showstopper for which no recourse less drastic than resignation will do — what is President Bush going to do for a replacement? Who is going to want to apply for Gonzales’s job, knowing (1) that he’ll be in the job for only about a year and a half, and (2) that the Dems will be going after his hide, because they’ve decided to wage war against the Bush administration and pick people off whenever they can? And if I’m not mistaken, a new AG would need to be confirmed by the Senate, if the President can’t just recess-appoint a new one.

Throwing Gonzales under the bus will just bring us that much faster to the next round in the game of “throw him under the bus.”

This Gonzales witch hunt by the Democrats reminds me of the story of the kid who kept digging in horse manure saying “I know if I dig long enough, I will find a pony”.

  4. MerlinOS2 says:

Thousands of pages of docs released and 8 fired prosecutors telling their tales of woe and badness and the dems cant come up with a smoking gun to support them meme. Are we to be the AG outfoxed them?

  5. Soothsayer says:

Gonzales has no recollection of any discussion, deliberation, memorandum or presentation regarding which attorneys would be fired an which would be retained.

He recalls making the decision who would be fired; he does not recall when.

He does not recall the conversation he had with George Bush – his boss – concerning the attorneys. Bush even remembers the discussion, and therefore Gonzales concedes it must have happened.

Either Gonzales is a liar, or he is attempting to establish an Americans with Disability Act defense – as he apparently has some memory disability – aphasia? closed-head injury – that renders him unable to recall anything about anything – and if it is a recognized medical condition – he cannot be fired for his inability to remember.

In spite of the fact that he has no recollection of any discussion, deliberation, memorandum or presentation regarding which attorneys would be fired an which would be retained, he assured the Judiciary Committee that NOTHING IMPROPER HAPPENED.

How the hell would he know? He doesn’t remember anything!

Where I come from they spell that P-E-R-J-U-R-Y.

Oh – and one further note: The GOP is a minority party. Deal with it.

Perhaps that has to do with the 5,000,000 missing e-mails? Before this is over – there will be a smoking gun – I guarantee it.

Ladies and gentlemen, I think we’ve found the slogan of the Democratic Congress right here. “We’ll just have to keep digging and digging and digging and digging and digging until the smoking gun turns up. But don’t worry — it’s there, all right. Even if we have to try to make ordinary memory lapses look like perjury and obstruction of justice, we’ll find it.”

  8. Soothsayer says:

    ordinary memory lapses

Ordinary memory lapses? Ordinary memory lapses. The guy doesn’t recall a SINGLE SOLITARY MEETING, discussion, deliberation or memo – in spite of the fact the others – from Kylse SAmpson to the President of the United States – recall such activities on his part.

    You gotta be kidding.

    Soothie,

He answered in the the established manner set by the Clinton administration. Sorry bud, but the left will not get Gonzales’ scalp because Bush will not neuter his last two years in office. The Dems – as usual – are wasting their time.

For the Leftists, I have this:

We, in America, have faced many enemies in our time: the English, the french, the Spanish, communism, socialism, fascism, nazis and stalinists, within and without. They have all sought to destroy our freedom and our way of life. They have all failed.

You are not our first enemy that we have defeated, nor will you be the last. Mark our words: WE WILL prevail. No matter how hard you try, you will not succeed in destroying this country. Book it.

Hundred bucks says you’re wrong. Republicans will force Bush to ashcan Gonzales – sooner rather than later. He’s an embarrassment to every American with a sense of right and wrong.

As for ragging on Clinton – did Clinton OK torture, warrantless wiretaps, abolishment of habeas? I think not. All he did was OK oral sex in the Oval Office.

What AJStrata really means is that if we don’t support Gonzales, the GOP will stay as a minority party.

I am SOOOO FED up with some of the conservative bloggers as well as some of the Republican’s questioning and comments directed towards Gonzales: Jeff Sessions, Tom Coburn, and John Cornyn. I was already fed up with Arlen Specter, Lindsay Graham, and John Sununu. But I am disgusted with ALL of them after yesterday’s hearings and today. I blasted an email to each and every one of them about their behavior.

Yes, Clinton OK’ed torture. Torture had been around for years. Some of our US troops had to experience torture methods as part of boot camp training. Torture has been around for many, many years. Those US soldiers had to learn so that they would be prepared to handle interrogation by their enemies. Yes, Clinton Ok’ed warrantless wiretaps. In fact, Clinton’s Operation Echelon went over and beyond the violations of civil rights AND Clinton was not a war president. Since Clinton was not a war president, he was not given an opportunity to deal with the habeas corpus or lack thereof. He had NO terrorists to deal with EXCEPT he declined the extradiction of Osama bin Laden…TWICE!!!

Hey, MerlinOS! Check This is Why We Need the F-22

  14. wiley says:

No, Clinton just abdicated his responsibilities and ignored the growing Al Qaeda threat, punted on Saddam, gave $ and looked the other way with North Korea, did nothing on widespread corporate scandals, did nothing on social security, sat by the dot.com bubble and snoozed as the economy forged into recession, perjured himself under oath, got disbarred, lied to his cabinet and the entire country in front of the camera, high-tailed out of Somalia, did nothing after the US Cole and the many other bombings, etc., etc. etc.

And speaking of Bush, he did not OK torture, has not conducted unlawful wiretapping, has not trashed habeas corpus for any US citizen, and does not cheat on Laura nor prey on 20-something interns.

  15. ivehadit says:

Sorry, but no Leftists have ANY moral ground to speak on what is right and wrong. None. The Party of “it depends on what the meaning of is, is” and how many “I don’t recall’s” did their leader use under oath?

A symphony in brass, the global socialist/communist democrat party is.

I know one thing: if a certain leftists says it’s dishonest, they I will bet the house on it being completely *honest*.

  16. Soothsayer says:

    Yes, Clinton OK’ed torture.

    Prove it.
