Iran About To Unleash Wave Of Terrorists On Kurdish Iraq?

Published by at 11:42 am under All General Discussions,Iran,Iraq

OK, this in some ominous news from the Iran-Iraq border:

A source within the Kurdish peshmerga militia – which allied itself with the US-led coalition in the 2003 war and serves as the main security force for the Kurdistan regional government – added that “intelligence acquired by the local authorities shows that Ansar al-Islam and Ansar al-Sunna – linked to al-Qaeda – are reorganising their ranks and deploying their forces near the border”.

At the same time, a Kurdish armed group has distributed a statement in the area close to the Iranian border, threatening the ‘apostates’ of Islam and calling on local people to reveal the names of young people who recently converted to Christianity.

The statement, which Adnkronos International (AKI) has seen, adds that “the apostates of the Islamic religion will be the targets of a programme by the jihadi groups and the residents must collaborate with Ansar al-Islam to reveal their identities”.

If the US is succeeding in Iraq and al Qaeda put out the call for help this is the kind of response one would expect from Iran. They would allow Islamo Fascists the opportunity to amass on the peaceful northern border in order to destabilize one of the fe stable areas in Iraq – the Kurdish regions in the North. Watch for the push back from those who want the US to fail (OK, those not in the Democrat Party).

This seems like pretty questionable intelligence.

Ansar al-Sunna and Ansar al-Islam are Kurdish Islamist groups that oppose the Shia government in Iraq (which is supported by Iran) and are Sunni based.

Absent any proof whatsoever, it seems a little disingenuous to propose that the Shia government of Iraq – which supports the Maliki Shia government in Iraq – is now supporting Sunni/Kurdish insurgent groups. Anyone have any proof of this?

SS, I’m sorry but what? Shia government of Iraq, supports shia government in Iraq, supports Sunni/Kurdish insurgent groups? Is there a typo in there? Do you mean Shia government of Iran, which supports the Maliki Shia government in Iraq?

  3. scaulen says:

Also it wouldn’t be the first time that Iran has allowed this group free reign in attacks across the border at Kurdish targets. Iran seems to be willing to use any group it can to destabilize the area, the classic enemy of my enemy.
