Dems Surrender To Bush!

Published by at 4:26 pm under All General Discussions,Iraq

The Democrats have decided they cannot sustain their pouting position on Iraq and have decided to not surrender to al Qaeda, but instead surrender to Bush:

In grudging concessions to President Bush, Democrats intend to draft an Iraq war-funding bill without a timeline for the withdrawal of U.S. troops and shorn of billions of dollars in spending on domestic programs, officials said Monday.
The legislation would include the first federal minimum wage increase in more than a decade, a top priority for the Democrats who took control of Congress in January, the officials added.

While details remain subject to change, the measure is designed to close the books by Friday on a bruising veto fight between Bush and the Democratic-controlled Congress over the war. It would provide funds for military operations in Iraq through Sept. 30, the end of the fiscal year.

Democrats in both houses are expected to seek other opportunities later this year to challenge Bush’s handling of the unpopular conflict.

The Dems have no one but themselves to blame for the mess they are in. The choice betweem surrendering Iraq (and America’s reputation) to al Qaeda or surrendering the political fight to Bush (who intends on succeeding in Iraq) was set up by their own idiotic strategery. They went out on this limb and al Qaeda sawed it off by joining their chorus of defeat – led by Senator Surrender himself: Harry Reid. The Dems used up all their political capitol and failed.

Note to reps. This is NOT how to posture on an issue. Was the Immigration win the price the Dems will pay to lose on Iraq (and I have little doubt it may have been)? Maybe so. The price to give them even a modest face saving would have been high. Bush just went all in – and took the pot!

Update: The libs are going ballistic now that their plans to surrender Iraq have gone pooof! Fun to read if you are sick of the GOP’s disaster on Immigration. The fact is Bush has to September to get things turned around in Iraq. And since the Sunni’s are turning things around already by attacking al Qaeda, it is clear the debate in September will be more of the same in all probability. And if Iraq does end up working out – then the liberals will be known for all history as the ones who nearly screwed the world and allowed Bin Laden a big win.

Is this still only a two month funding or is it a full funding measure?

I still haven’t seen that point addressed.

Shhh! Keep talking about immigration and how the right has fallen apart until the bill is sent to the White House for the signature, or else the Dems will realize how badly they miscalculated, the Kossites will force Harry and Nancy to oppose the bill and scuttle the deal.

  3. colin says:

Right now, it’s only rumors leaking out from Democrat sources to the AP, but according to the story, it’s a full funding bill, through to September 30th, the end of the fiscal year.

Let’s hope that by September, the surge will take full place and that there is quiet and peace, which will eliminate all ammunition that the Democrats can use to “defund the troops”. If victory is achieved by then, will this give the Democrats the ammunition to pull everyone out by then? Who knows. But we do need to sustain the peace until Iraqi is ready to take over and sustain it.

Ya just gotta love this line from the Kos post:

What that means is building on the 29 votes we got in the Senate, and the 171 in the House for withdrawal. Keep the pressure on.

Particularly in the Senate. Going from 29 to 60 — that’s a lot of building. Maybe Halliburton can help.

The senators and probably the representatives too got a lot of mail telling them to get off the pot and pass the appropriations. That would be the only reason for this turn around. The dims said the country wants out of Iraq but it it doubtful it wants out in defeat. The dims were wrong again. What does this make how many times they have been wrong 9,000,000,000?
