Sunni And Shiia Join Up Against Al Qaeda In Iraq
Hat tip to reader DaleInAtlanta for bringing this amazing news to our attention. Sunni and Shiia leaders have signed an agreement to fight al Qaeda and support the Iraq government:
A delegation of Sahwa al-Anbar, (Anbar Awakening) the tribal alliance in the restive Sunni province of Al Anbar, has made an unprecedented visit to Sadr City, the Baghdad stronghold of radical Shiite imam Moqtada al-Sadr, according to pan Arab daily al-Sharq al-Awsat. “We have taken this step to place national interest ahead of any differences” said the head of the US-endorsed Sunni alliance Hamid al-Hayas. “This is an effort to bring closer together the Sunni and Shiite Iraqi points of view. We want to deliver a message to all the political groups to put aside their differences and act for the common good” he said.
…
At the end of the meeting the two sides signs a joint document in which they vowed to fight the terrorism of al-Qaeda. The group has become increasingly isolated within the Sunni insurgency because of its indiscriminate targeting of civilians.
I predicted al Qaeda’s desparate and violent acts against Muslims would be their undoing – and now it is coming to pass. The so called civil war is now the war we always wanted – the Arab/Muslim street is rising up against al Qaeda. Not America or the new Iraqi government. This is why the Surrendercrats not only were dead wrong (and probably capitulated on the funding once they were briefed on the rapidly changing situation in Iraq) but why they will also pay a heavy price for NOT supporting our troops and seeing them through to success. It is amazing to see this happening, and it is a great moment in our efforts to redirect the ME towards a peaceful, democratic future.
Update: Much more on this historic meeting here:
In an unprecedented step, a top leader of the pro-US tribal alliance in Anbar Province traveled to Sadr City Tuesday to meet with leaders of the Sadrist current.
Sheikh Hamid al-Hayis, who leads the armed wing of the US-backed movement known as the Anbar Awakening, or the Anbar Salvation Council, held a rare meeting with Sadrist leaders in Baghdad’s Sadr City, the bastion of support for the young cleric Muqtada al-Sadr, and stronghold of the Mahdi Army.“This meeting is a message to Iraqi politicians to get rid of their differences and to seek real reconciliation,†Hayis said, according to the AFP.
“We are trying to pressure (the government) to make political changes for the sake of the Iraqi people who are drowning in the blood of their sons,†Hayis added.
“This visit shows that Iraqi tribes are standing side by side and they are the nail in the coffin of the abhorrent sectarianism which has split our country,†said Shi’a Sheikh Malik Sewadi al-Mohammedawi, whom AFP identifies as the head of one of Sadr City’s most influential tribes.
…
AFP reports that the participants in Tuesday’s meeting called for “improved national security services, for holding internationally monitored provincial council elections, and for ‘calling any killer of Iraqis a terrorist who has to be fought’.â€
In a statement issued by the two groups at the end of the discussions also affirmed the unity and sovereignty of Iraq and called for building up the country’s armed forces on a professional and national basis, Radio Sawa Net reports in Arabic.
Thank goodness the Surrendercrats were not able to pull off their premature surrender plans. I expect the bloodshed to increase as al Qaeda fights for its very existence. Also watch for them to try and run to Iran and possibly Syria. We are consistently limiting the support of al Qaeda and their Islamo Fascist cousins. And as they are rejected and pushed into ever smaller regions they will be easier to eliminate. Expect an interesting summer with major changes in the fortunes of Iraq, al Qaeda and the liberal left in this country.
In an unprecedented move…….
….Sunnis and Sadrists in Iraq have signed a joint agreement to fight Al Qaeda in Iraq and have demanded that the Iraqi government put the intere……
And MORE “good news” from Iraq, Good news from Iraq, and please note the “bad” news as well, and the continued revealing of the stupidity and incompetence of the Bremer Coalition Provisional Authority, and how it’s mismanagement, DIRECTLY led to most of the mess we currently have in Iraq today!
Thank goodness the Surrendercrats were not able to pull off their premature surrender plans.
And the DUmmies are not at all happy about it. I especially liked this one:
If the netroots have been burning up the phone lines, emails, faxes, why are they not listening? I have given up any hope that they have an ace up their collective sleeves for dealing with the most corrupt person who has sat in the Oval Office.
[The Democrats don’t even have a deuce up their sleeves.]
I have given up any hope that they have an ace up their collective sleeves for dealing with the most corrupt person who has sat in the Oval Office
Was this person talking about Bill or Hill? LOL 🙂
Great catches Dale! It is indeed great news. Of course we will not see this in the MSM.
