Another Bush Victory For The Record Books
Most of the far right complain when Bush reaches across the aisle and teams with liberal stalwarts like Ted Kennedy. But there is always common ground to do good things, especially when it comes to the universal support we all have for our kids. The results of No Child Left Behind are coming in – and they are a testiment to Bush’s 20-20 long term vision:
The nation’s students have performed significantly better on state reading and math tests since President Bush signed his landmark education initiative into law five years ago, according to a major independent study released yesterday.
The study’s authors warned that it is difficult to say whether or how much the No Child Left Behind law is driving the achievement gains. But Republican and Democratic supporters of the law said the findings indicate that it has been a success. Some said the findings bolster the odds that Congress will renew the controversial law this year.
…
The report, which experts called the most comprehensive analysis of test data from all 50 states since 2002, concluded that the achievement gap between black and white students is shrinking in many states and that the pace of student gains increased after the law was enacted.
If the conservatives had listened to the far right about that evil bogey-man Kennedy we would not be seeing these results. Common ground is all around us, unless you deliberately avoid it – like the immigration hypochondriacs. The far right said the education reforms would fail. They were wrong. They said the prescription drug benefit would fail. They were wrong. Do we see a trend here? Bush and Kennedy may be synthesizing the best of left and right to bring about some good changes. But the far right refuses anything and everything that smells of that ugly concept called ‘compromise’. Ego verses leadership – an age old story. The sad thing is we have the far right standing in the way again on this subject too. Even with proven results they will come armed with wild speculation and horror stories and attacking that traitor Bush. Some old tired song.
I supported the No Child Left Behind then and I believe the results have been good.
I don’t agree with this sentence “If the conservatives had listened to the far right about that evil bogey-man Kennedy”
I’m a conservative and I still don’t like Kennedy. This was Pres Bush’s bill that Kennedy jumped on and tried to change, but the conservatives stayed with the Pres on it and Kennedy caved and got what he could out of it.
Now Kennedy is trying to even the score with his “No Felon Left Behind” illegal alien bill.
It is too bad the President lost on the Dubai Port deal. When it comes to sticking your neck out to do the right and courageous thing, this President is a leader amongst leaders.
Enforcement I agree with you hundred percent
This was my take. If you don’t like Ni Child Behind in your state then ask your states to not accept all Federal Money for Education that does not include head start and college and Vo tech and fund it alone.
If states and local school boards want federal money then they don’t have much standing in my book that the money has conditons
Kathie, I know what you’re saying in this:
It is too bad the President lost on the Dubai Port deal. When it comes to sticking your neck out to do the right and courageous thing, this President is a leader amongst leaders.
and basically I agree. Especially about Pres Bush, while I don’t agree on the illegal alien thing, I do admire him very much.
However, I feel like if the Ports deal had been handled differently, it could have been won. It’s unfortunate for the country that it didn’t.
Fe, I am sincerely glad we agree on the Dubai deal. It was a travesty for America that is got sunk…And about President Bush. Rush is that you?
🙂
