We Don’t Walk Softly, And We Carry Big Sticks

Published by at 1:15 pm under All General Discussions,Pakistan

Some reporting on the new artillery/rocket system possibly used to take out that enemy camp in Pakistand yesterday:

The six-pack can be configured to shoot a wide array of rockets and missiles, from cluster bombs to a single missile system with a range of up to 300 kilometres. Himars can fire a variety of non-cluster bomb rockets from the standard MLRS range of 32 kilometres to 300 kilometres.

The Himars launcher can also aim at a target in just 16 seconds. A crew of three operates the launcher, and it is possible for the crew to select pre-programmed targets stored in a fire control computer to increase flexibility.

The system is the new favourite of the US forces in the war against terrorism, especially when significant firepower is desired.

Hey terrorists – can you hear us now? Remember when Bush said from the top of the WTC rubble you would be hearing from us? We’re still out there explaining the reality of the pecking order in this world. And for some more on the target of our efforts to reach out and “touch someone”:

The death toll from Tuesday’s missile strike on a compound in North Waziristan has reached 34 as reports received on Wednesday belie claims that the place hit was a seminary.

People in the Datakhel area near the Afghan border denied that the compound in Mamerogha Seleria was used as a training facility and said flights by unidentified planes had been observed in the remote area.

“It was not a seminary. There were a tent and a few mud-houses on a hilltop where some 42 people had gathered,” said Mohammad Amir, who teaches at a seminary. He said only eight people had survived the attack.

Talking to Dawn by phone on Wednesday, Mr Amir said local people, particularly youngsters, used to visit the abandoned mountainous area in summer for recreation. “They had erected a tent on the top of the hill, which came under attack,” he said.He said that local people regularly went to the area which had chalghoza forests and also collected precious stones. Journalists were not allowed to visit the area.

Yeah, you can’t have journalists around when you are picking up pebbles. And those overflights were just people admiring all the shiny stoned collected! Nothing here – move along….

Update: Reader Crosspatch notes Deputy Sec of State John Negroponte is coincidentally in Pakistan as this attack is being assessed. Interesting….

Major Update: Many of the dead have been identified as Arabs and terrorists:

The terrorists who have been killed in blast in Datakhel area near the Afghan border in abandoned area of Miramshah have been identified.

Military sources while talking to Online confirmed that explosion in the suspected religious seminary in Datakhel area near the Afghan border on Wednesday claimed 33 lives out of which 27 persons including four injured have been identified as foreigners.

Military sources further confirmed that out of 23 deceased, 19 have been identified as Arab, while four belonged to Turkmenistan.

Similarly, four injured have also been identified as Arab. Now the area has been under strict security after the deployment of military personnel.

Stay tuned! Seems to have been a success. As I posted yesterday it could be we have Zawahiri or Bin Laden. The fact the area is being cordoned off by the military shows how important these targets could actually be.

  1. HIMARS is a truck mounted launcher for the MLRS family of munitions (MFOM).

All current MLRS munitions being purchased now are precision guided.

There is the 277mm GMLRS rocket and a range assessed at 80km plus (with 200lb explosive payload) and the ATACMS missile that comes in 150km and 300km versions with cluster and unitary warheads (the latter is classed in the 750lb range). Both munitions use GPS/intertial guidance. Both munitions come in pods that can be loaded one each to a HIMARS and two each to a tracked MRS launcher.

The GMLRS rocket is loaded six to a pod.

Only a single ATACMS can fit into a MFOM reload pod.

Good old reliable “Center”; I do admire you, at least you are not shy about showing the world that you are:

    Anti-Troop/US Military

    Anti-American

    Racist

    Anti-Semitic

    Pro-Jihadi

    Anti-Black

    Anti-Hispanic

    Socialist

    Marxist-Leninist

    Leftist

    a Nutbag

    a Traitor!

At least you’re not shy about admitting that you are ALL those things and more!

You are quoting General William Odom? A CARTERITE?

    Are you kidding me?

    Bwaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh!

    Dale-the-spy-who-came-down-with-a-cold:

    Odom a Carterite?

He served longer under Reagan than under Carter, you idiot -and received his two biggest job from The Great Communicator hisself:

1981-1985, Assistant chief of staff for intelligence, United States Army.
    1984, promoted to Lieutenant General.
1985-1988, Director of the National Security Agency, Fort Meade, Maryland

Is this one of those many TS/codeword classified documents you hallucinated working on???

  6. DaleinAtlanta says:

“Booklicker”: Odom certainly served under Reagen….DUH!!!!

But, he worked for Zbignew Brzldjfdlfjdalkfjdlj;l, got his career “traction” under the Leftist loon Carter (one of your Heros, I might add); and he’s certainly “Carterite” in outlook, philosphy, and in treason to America.

So, the statement stands, and is FACT!

  7. Joe Buzz says:

Maybe we should have dropped the gay bomb on those tangos under the tents set up to collect shiny rocks…..There are many with wadded panties that are still upset that we didnt fully develop and deploy that weapon. I was told that the planners were told not to force lifestyle choices on the populace.

You’ve got your terms confused. “Treason,” is surrendering Mideast policy to dual loyalists like Scooter Libby and Doug Feith.
Trying to extricate policy from a foreign nation’s control is called
    “patriotism.”

  9. Soothsayer says:

Center – what do you expect – Dale can’t even spell Reagan’s name correctly. And for an addle-pated Reagan worshipper like him – that’s kind of like misspelling Jesis Chrust[sic].

  10. thecentercannothold says:

There’s etched in granite tautology at work here, Sooth.
A erstwhile conservative becomes a traitor by having oppoosed
the war or even by turning against it.

If this isn’t true I’d like Dale to proffer one example of
a conservative he still admires who opposes the war.
And on the polls,–you should have heard all the Limbaughesque
neocon chickenhawks use them, the national ones eg MSNBC,
CBS etc, the first year or so of the war when the natives
still were gung-ho and the Iraqis still held out hope for the
occupation. They only became “treasonous” and liberal when the
    results began to change.

  11. DaleinAtlanta says:

“BOOTLICKER”, frankly, if ANYONE should NOT talk about “spelling” skills, Mr. “Mujah”; it would be you, thank you very much!

As for Reagan; ah, sorry, not a fan, never have been, never will be, thank you very much! In fact, you can not show ONE SINGLE POST, anywhere, where I ever so much as paid Reagan a compliment!

Though I admit, I was GLAD he was elected twice, because it saved the country from the depradations of TWO certifiable Leftist Nutbags: Jimmy Carter and Walter Mondale!

Now to avoid that, I’d have been happy to see Nixon elected again!

So, pathetic try, Widdle man, pathetic try…

And nice try in attempting to paint me with the “Religious Right” lable, by bringing up Jesus!

The last time I was in church, was in 1984, when I married my EX-Wife, and that worked out so well, I haven’t been back since!

Though my parents were “Christians” I guess; I grew up in Pagan and Animist and Muslim countries, and I never even adopted a Patina nor veneer of “Christianity”!

Where I differ from YOU two Nutbags however, is I don’t CARE if someone is a Christian; I don’t persecute them for it, and I admire the fact that they actually have “faith”, and believe in something else!

I personally don’t, but good for them; if it keeps them on the straight and narrow, and imbues them with a set of Morales and Ethics and Integrity and Honor, and helps them raise their kids to be good citizens; then good for them; I don’t mind!

I think it’s an admirable trait; not for me, but good for them!

But, as all typical Leftists Loons that you are; you HATE people from the “right”, such as President Bush, because he IS a “Christian”, and isn’t afraid to show it.

It drives you crazy, because he has something you, and all Leftist Loons lack: that’s a core set of values, and respect for other people.

To exist as human beings, in a complex global civilization, and with some 6 billion of us, we actually need SOMETHING, to get along, as well as possible.

But you freaking nuts, would rather surrender to the Murderous Jihadis, to prove your point that you are “secular”, and you ain’t taking no guff off no damn Religious “Christian” nut like Bush; cause instead, we’d prefer to smoke dope, molest kids, do away with marriage, abort babies, and do whatever the hell we feel like it, because we’re “Adults” and it feels guhd! Yeah man!

Well, as they say over at Ace’s HQ; giving yourself a handjob with an Ice cream cake feels good too; but I’m not sure it’s something I should do out in Main Street at High Noon!

But then again, the complete loss of all morals, standards, ethics, and values, is what your Leftist Nutbags are after anyhow, so attack away!

As long as I’m here, you ain’t getting away with it!

    Morons…..

  12. thecentercannothold says:

Notice that Ratboy doesn’t deny voting for Reagan, which, since he
was “glad he won” because of Carter’s purported shortcomings, he surely would have even though “not a fan.”

A certifiable lunatic who believes Islam is capable of conquering
America–an indoctrinated tool of the neocons who often conceal their chief concern, Israel by fomenting the fear that has made
Ratdale to Islam what the John Birchers were to the Soviet
invasion, the latter having much more justification because of the Soviet military and arsenal.

  13. DaleinAtlanta says:

Ah, categorically LOON, I did NOT vote for Reagan!

    Not once, not Twice!

Never cast a vote at the time for him!

Though I was glad he won.

I was an Active Duty officer at the time, and though obviously were NOT prohibited from voting, it was kind of considered “bad form” to vote for a Commander in Chief, and thus “pick sides”.

Were had to serve whomever was elected, and we were advised it best not to become “political”.

That all changed in the 90’s for some reason, when Senior Officers then actually started to encourage people to vote.

But again, you wouldn’t know any of that, because you are a Leftist Nutbag Look, and actually SERVING your Country, is something that could never penetrate your granite-like cranium!
