Immigration Bill Prediction

Published by at 12:38 pm under All General Discussions,Illegal Immigration

If the immigration Bill is going to pass the cloture vote we know it will be close. I am not sure which way it will go but I think it will pass the cloture 62-37 27. The 37 27 opposed will be mostly the GOP deadenders. If it passes this test it will go through the amendment process and we shall see what flavor of sausage comes out the back end. I still think it has a chance to succeed, which is why the Amnesty Hypochondriacs are in a lather again. It is this or nothing for ten years. So either they lose and America wins some progress or they win and we are stuck with the same old mess for a lont time to come. I think it is sinking in on everyone there are not any more shots at this for some time to come. The perfect bill is not coming to save the day…..

Who are the 10 not voting?

  2. AJStrata says:

    Sue – LOL! Got me…

  3. Sue says:

    I wasn’t trying to get you. I thought maybe 10 weren’t voting.

  4. AJStrata says:

LOL! I was tring to decide ‘1 vs 8’, ‘2 vs 7’ or ‘3 vs 6’ and spaced the tens column. Just thought it was hillarious – that’s all.

I have no idea if any plan to obstain or vote present. I know Tim Johnson will not be voting – he is the only one I know for sure since he is in the hospital still.

  5. PMII says:

This bill is as bad as the previous attempts to fix the issue. It’s worthless. They will have do do it agin in another 5 to 10 years….

  6. For Enforcement says:

I’m glad you’re consistently wrong on predictions, thank goodness. Remember George Allen!!!!!!!!!!

  7. Sue says:

Did any abstain last time? I know Brownback didn’t attend but he is showing up this time around.

  8. Jacqui says:

Here are the 12 Senators that are against the bill but may vote for cloture – not all Republicans as you can see.

    Bond (R-Mo.), Bingaman (D-N.M.), Burr (R-N.C.), Boxer (D-Calif.), Cochran (R-Miss.), Conrad (D-N.D.), Ensign (R-Nev.), Levin (D-Mich.), Gregg (R-N.H.), Nelson (D-Neb.), Hatch (R-Utah), Webb (D-Va.).

  9. Jacqui says:

Brownback will be there for the vote.

    Enforcement:
dittos on predictions – I remember the Libby acquited on all counts

  10. retire05 says:

“The 37 opposed will be mostly GOP deadenders.”

Yeah, those deadenders like Cornyn and Hutchison who don’t have a clue as to what illegal immigration has done to their state. Right?
These are some of the deadenders that don’t know as much as AJ about the effects of illegal immigration.
Perhaps AJ could offer his services to those two Senators and let them know that their offices are at risk if they vote “nay” on this bill and enlighten them how they are going wrong.

Here’s a better plan; we send all the illegals in Texas to AJ’s town and let his taxes pay to educate, incarcerate and medicate them.

  11. AJStrata says:

R05 seems a bit testy today, since he is back at his hypochondriac amnesty fantasies again….

    More unrealities from the unrealistic.

  12. For Enforcement says:

RO5, maybe AJ needs a chauffeur, it would give him a good pool to select from.

I’ve been trying to figure out what the oft used term ‘ amnesty hypochondriac’ means, so I looked up ‘hypochondriac’ and it means:

    hy·po·chon·dri·ac
    –adjective

    a. pertaining to or suffering from hypochondria.

    So I looked up ‘hypochondria:

    hy·po·chon·dri·a
    –noun
Psychiatry. an excessive preoccupation with one’s health

So, putting all that together: amnesty hypochondriac appears to mean a person that is excessively concerned with their health because of amnesty.

How appropriate,, I can agree that amnesty certainly can have an adverse effect on the health of people as a result of the wrong people getting it. Look at the amnesty that guy in Tenn, all those convictions where the legal system ‘looked’ the other way “de facto amnesty. It certainly impacted the health of that Tenn State athlete. So, believe it or not, if that is what amnesty hypochondriac means, it is very appropriate.

All those 12 million getting amnesty will likely affect the health of many US citizens… So fellow ‘amnesty hypochondriacs’ wear that badge with pride.

  13. retire05 says:

AJ, it is you, not me, that is very realistic about the effects illegal immigration has had on my area. Going to three funerals because of an illegal does that for a person. I hope you never have to face that trial.
I am not testy. It is not me spewing the “amnesty pimp” talking points.

  14. retire05 says:

    Correction:
AJ, it is ME, not YOU, that is very realistic about the effects illegal immigration has had on my area.

And when you have to resort to insulting a poster, you have lost the argument.

And where is the text for “back taxes” I asked you to provide?

  15. crosspatch says:

    A few notes:

I favor a “virtual fence” over a physical fence for a lot of reasons. The main one being that it would take millions to build it and only a few hundred bucks for some drug cartel to tear it up and force us to continually rebuild it. It would invite a lot of activity in the border area that will eventually escalate into bullets flying and for no good reason. A virtual fence gives them nothing to tear up. It gives them nothing to attack.

Every drug dealer in the country is going to be opposed to this legislation. There are literally billions of dollars that depend on things never changing and staying the way they are now. Any legislation of any sort that changes things from the way they are now is going to have a very difficult time and I will be greatly surprised if I ever see anything actually pass.

Drug cartels can afford to pump literally hundreds of millions of dollars into causes both far right and far left that oppose any legislative changes. It’s quite sickening, actually.

  16. Sue says:

Meriam Webster defines hypochondria as :

extreme depression of mind or spirits often centered on imaginary physical ailments

However it is used, it ties back to imaginary physical ailments. And I don’t think AJ has indicated we are suffering from a physical ailment, imagined or otherwise. When I first saw the use of the term, I thought it was being confused with histrionics, or something similar, but he kept using it so I assume he intended to imply those of us who oppose the amnesty bill are suffering from an imaginary physical ailment.

  17. Sue says:

If mine is imaginary, I want it to be a hangover. At least that way I’ll get to imagine I had a good time last night.

  18. DaleinAtlanta says:

Sue: I basically agree, I’ve never understood what the term meant from the time he first used it!

Just 22% Favor Stalled Immigration Bill

    Monday, June 25, 2007
    Rasmussen Reports

    Excerpt:

As the Senate prepares to resume debate the “comprehensive” immigration reform bill, the legislation continues to face broad public opposition. In fact, despite a massive White House effort, public opinion has barely moved since the public uproar stalled the bill just over two weeks ago.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that just 22% of American voters currently favor the legislation. That’s down a point from 23% a couple of weeks ago and down from 26% when the debate in the Senate began. Fifty percent (50%) oppose the Senate bill while 28% are not sure.

Among the public, there is a bi-partisan lack of enthusiasm for the Senate bill. It is supported by 22% of Republicans, 23% of Democrats, and 22% of those not affiliated with either major party. It is opposed by 52% of Republicans, 50% of Democrats, and 48% of unaffiliateds.

From an ideological perspective, the bill is opposed by 59% of conservatives, 54% of liberals, and 45% of political moderates. Among those for whom none of the traditional ideological labels apply, just 20% are opposed.

  20. Terrye says:

If they kill this bill I intend to call people like Tancredo and Sessions on a regular basis and demand they get off their asses and just enforce the laws.

After all, true blue Americans like FE and Retire and Bikerken keep saying that all is needed is to enforce the laws…so by God hop to it. If they do not get those laws enforced in 6 months then I will accuse them of being part of a conspiracy to destroy America.

And a wall, I want a wall, a thousand miles long in 6 months, if these guys to do not make that happen right now, this minute, yesterday…then I will assume they are traitors in league with the president of Mexico.

You see this is the deal, these guys who are raising hell about this bill, spreading all kinds of misinformation and trying to bully and scare people into killing it, do not have to do anything.

They say all you have to do is enforce is the laws, but they are not the ones who will be held responsible. Their only job is that of running their mouths.

They say that a wall can be built right this minute and it will stop all the illegal immigrants from entering the country, but they are not the ones who are answerable, or responsible, their only job once again is running their mouths.

But if they kill this thing and it is left to the Democrats to deal with or if they kill the Republican party in the process I intend to stay right after the people who kill the bill. I intend to demand that they live up to their rhetoric. After all, they act as if all it requires is the will to do it, a kick in the ass to the worthless border agents etc who are obviously not doing their jobs.

And while we are on the subject of definitions, according to my old Websters an amnesty is a general pardon. It says nothing about fines. But then again ignoring all these people is an amnesty too if people were honest enough to admit it.

There will never be a bill that is anything but worthless for these people. They can complain about secrecy, but there is nothing secret about this. The only secret is how they intend to fix the problem themselves, that it seems is downright top secret. Not a clue as to what the answer to that is.
