House GOP: We Don’t Know What It Is, But We Oppose It

Published by at 11:55 am under All General Discussions,Illegal Immigration

Let’s not assume sanity will reign over the GOP anytime soon when it comes to immigration. The amnesty hypochondriac wing of the GOP is still pumped up on panic, as we can tell from this telling House GOP statement:

House Republicans disapprove of the Senate immigration bill that is expected to go back to the floor for debate Tuesday afternoon, according to a resolution that was floated during a House GOP meeting Tuesday morning.

The one-line resolution, which simply reads, “resolved the House GOP Conference disapproves of the Senate immigration bill,” was offered by Rep. Pete Hoekstra (R-Mich.). It is expected to pass the House Republican Conference by a large margin when the body meets again Tuesday evening at 5:30 p.m., despite the fact the Senate bill’s language has yet to be finalized.

They don’t know what is in the bill, since the bill faces votes on 24 amendments, but in classic knee-jerk action they disapprove of it. The GOP will have so little credibility left after this battle it won’t be funny.

They don’t know what’s in the bill because it has been put together in a backroom in secret. And you think that is okay. They don’t even know which amendments are going to be allowed a vote. How the hell can you pretend this is a good way to debate a bill? I’ll say it again, if this was any other bill you would not be so happy about the sausage making process.

    Sue,

That’s really funny! Then how is it all these armchair experts have “read the bill’ from top to bottom but the GOP house members didn’t?

    LOL! Too much.

What the heck? Are there TWO bills here? People have been posting bits and pieces of early drafts of the bill here and yelling about how those excerpts are reasons to consider the bill an abomination that needs to be killed killed killed killed killed. This has been going on for weeks. Now we’re back to talking about a bill for which the Senate is setting aside only an hour for debate? You mean people HAVEN’T been debating and investigating and making up their minds about the bill for weeks already? Or is this a brand new bill?

Poor For Enforcement! He used to go on and on about the
wussified French, mainly cause they didn’t support the immoral
    Iraq War.

As Kim du Toit admits, they are doing much more about
their immigrant problems than we are.

    Wuss Americans!

Why are the House Republicans talking about the Senate Bill? Should they not be taling about the Strive Act in the House?

  6. lurker9876 says:

Well, I hope they will continue to stand behind Bush on the defense budget in September.

Think they will face an onslaught of phone calls and emails by then if we see them denouncing Bush’s stance on Iraq?

I just read that Richard Lugar has begun to denounce the war.

I noticed one thing of interest. Some of the “ayes” are against the war…Hagel, for one.

Once again, the White House’s Myths on this this bill, are thoroughly debunked!

I wonder if AJ can “debunk” the Heritage Foundation??

Sorry Dale, you only get three “wolfs” and your out.

Should have picked better ones! And of course it is going to cost money – duh! Especially if you want it done right!

Do you folks ever sanity check these silly claims to see if they make ANY sense relative to the other silly claims?????

I can’t stand radical conservative hissyfitters!!!

Tops on the list is David Frum:

    quote:

    “Political Capital
On immigration, President Bush has gone way beyond spending political capital; he has now maxed out his political credit cards. He will not be able to ask Congress for anything else. Which raises the question: What happens when the surge comes up for review in September? Has the president in effect sacrificed Iraq for immigration amnesty? ”

    end quote.

I guess all the hissyfitters are gonna take their marbles and go home.

    What a bunch of babies!!!

I don’t even know what that means!

And of course it is going to cost money – duh! Especially if you want it done right!

So in essence, you’re saying that the $2.6 TRILLION dollar bill, that WE have to pay, is fine with you?

Wow, what an incredibly stunning statement!

  11. reader2007 says:

And these hissyfitters are who we (republicans) are expected to look to speak for us??????

  12. Jacqui says:

There is a second cloture vote on Thursday in the Senate after amendments are offered and voted on and if they get pass that cloture vote then they will vote on the bill. There seems to be a misunderstanding on today’s vote. This was just to beging 30 hours of debate on the amendments. They need to get past that Thursday vote before voting up or down on the bill. Confirmed this with McConnell’s office.

I know you missed this little detail, but since I said anything about the French they’ve changed government and now are ‘supportive’ of the US.  But then you are generally clueless, so I wouldn’t expect you to notice that little detail.

Gee since you have to guess, that shows pretty much how the information on this bill is not getting out.

S1348 was the bill that was tabled that had all those amendments and one poison pill attached.

Now the first step here is going to be introduction of S1349 which will be a substitution by amendment that strips it back to square one.

I may have the bill numbers wrong , but that is the process that will be followed.

You hit it. Where were all these Republicans when Buish pleaded and went on a Natiowide tour to try to save Socialk Security? Where were they when Bush was plaeding aspects of the energy bill. Some of the “conservatives” know how to threaten a lot but in reality they are not so good on delivering for their President at times.

  16. DaleinAtlanta says:

LE: it also CONFIRMS that “THECENTERISABUNGHOLE”, is in fact, “KEN”.

The last time you said anything about the French, “THECENTERISABUNGHOLE” had never even posted on this board, but the Anti-American/Pro-Jihadi/Anti-Semitic Leftist Nutbag, “Ken” was all over the place!

    Buffoon just outed himself!

    Bwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh!

  17. MerlinOS2 says:

Also the bill which was tabled and is now gonna be moot was just finally put into the Thomas database a couple of days ago, after it was tabled.

Reid wants the new bill all tied up in a bow before it will have a chance to hit the Thomas database.

  18. Aitch748 says:

Ah yes, David Frum. That guy. Why am I not surprised that he’s also among those floating (or at least hinting at) the idea that maybe the War on Terror is really Bush’s War after all, and that maybe this immigration thing is such that it might be time to consider punishing the President on Iraq?

  19. For Enforcement says:

    AJ

“They don’t know what is in the bill,”

I find it strange that you say that they don’t know what is in the bill and they oppose it.  How is that different from you not knowing what’s in the bill and supporting it?

Are you saying they should at least read it and know what’s in it before opposing it?  How about you reading it and knowing what’s in it before you support it?

We all know there is a 700 page draft and a 326 page condensed version of it.  I’ve only read the 326 pg version and where people make claims, I’ve compared it to the 700 page and there is essentially no difference.  Only bigger spacing and more technical stuff.  Content is close on both.

Now they are going to discuss it more, maybe add some and take some off,  then send it to House where they are going to kill it.

  20. DaleinAtlanta says:

Merlin: actually, S1639, is the old S1348, “updated & including all the amendments” that passed the other week.

But, your basic contention stands; just like AJ, Aitch doesn’t actually know what’s in the bil, he’s just supporting because it feels good!

And, because he thinks that Hispanics will now vote “Republican”; which is the only reason AJ supports it as well, by the way, even though he denied it yesterday.
