Dafydd Tries To Salvage The GOP’s Soul

Published by at 10:30 am under All General Discussions,Illegal Immigration

Dafydd over at Big Lizards is trying to save the GOP from the fallout of its disaster on the immigration bill. Laudable idea. Completely useless though. This is what Hispanics hears plenty of over the last couple of months from the underbelly of the GOP:

I’m with you. Round them ALL up and toss their anchor babies (anchors only around our necks) into the trucks and get them the hell to the border!
If this doesn’t cause extreme prejudice against the Mexican criminal class who have invaded our county I don’t know what will.

Furthermore, I wouldn’t be a tourist in Mexico for hundreds of thousands of pesos!

Boycott Mexico and boycott ANY Mexican laborers.

That’s mild. And the bashing of our President was on a par with Democrat Underground:

Bush is more than a moron. There’s weird intent behind his actions. Bush thinks we all own big ranches like his friends… and Bush thinks we need an untouchable class to do the dirty work.
It’s sooooooooo American. NOT.

Bush gets to take a big hit on his brother Jeb too – who has a son with brown skin. A son who will forever more be confused with the second class citizen/worker class.

Will any of us ever look at our brown skinned neighbors the same way? I’ve always seen them as “Americans” – now I’ll wonder if they broke into my country to clean the toilets. I hope Bush enjoys the cheap labor…

This crap left a big stain. One which, I for one, can never get near. I cannot ally with people who think like this. I grew up hating racists because, honestly, they were everywhere and all they did was prattle on about ‘nigger’ this and ‘nigger’ that and how those trying to give the blacks equal standing where destroying this nation, blah, blah, blah. And now that ugly side of humanity has raised its head again, blaming race and creed and nationality as causes for what is really a problem we have had for decades trying to manage the temporary workers our economy has been based on for at least 100 years.

Our “neighbors” down south are different – not poisonous evil scum. Their economies are not as strong as ours, they are not was wealthy – they are not lesser beings. My one visit to Argentina showed me a kindred people who were part Texas and part Spain. They had their economic problems, but they were proud and honorable people. The immigrant kids and families in our community who come from south of the border are wonderful additions to our neighborhood in nearly all cases. There are bad apples. Crime is a human condition, not a national one.

The people south of the border do not magically transform from the dark side to angels based on whether they have work permits or not. Their cultures do not change based on whether a representative is documented or undocumented. The stain left from this battle is not rational. One thing is clear. I will take my neighbors over these hot heads any day of the week. Good luck Dafydd, but there are more fleas than anything else in that bed your lying in. It is not 100% bad, but bad enough to need to be disinfected.

Update: Yeah, and the death threats – that wasn’t a good tactic either.

Come Fall 2007 and through 2008, Repubs will run back to GW to get back as many of the Hispanic voters that they can.

And of course, GW being the class act will oblige. A true character to a fault. HA HA HA

Of course I want the GOP to get out there, explain itself, and tell the Mike Savages to cram it. But if we don’t expect or want the same thing from the Hispanic community its going to lead to a lot of problems later on.

WAH WAH WAH…Retire05….Remember that the immigration bill failed?????….

And yes you are an “immigration hypochondriac”. Get over it.

    HA HA HA

  4. reader2007 says:

Why do I say your an immigration hypochondriac.

Because of this quote of the day (in one of the above posts):

“LOL! If some one said Americans are dumb I am pretty sure only the dumb Americans would be insulted, since the rest of us would know we are not dumb. What is amazing is I think deep down a lot of people felt they had been exposed and insulted.

That’s encouraging to hear from you.

    Merlin,

Takes me two seconds to find HUNREDS of comments. Follow the links. Go to Lucianne’s site or LGF.

You tolerated them – not my fault.

My response was in reference to your post about incumbents

Sigh, so now you can call someone a name, and if they get offended, that’s proof that you were right. So if I call Bush a traitor, no one here should get upset – if you do, it reveals that you really believe he is one. Ridiculous. If someone calls me a racist, and I’m insulted, I’m a racist. I look past the loudmouths on the other side, but I cannot ask that they do the same…

    loneferret,

If Johny jumps off the bridge do you? Sorry, the “they’re no better” argument won’t fly.

  10. loneferret says:

    AJ,

I’m not saying they are no better, I’m saying their wacky comments are no better than the ones you can find on LGF. Let’s explain ourselves, but can we please expect some explanation in return? Or is it going to be a constant battle for us trying to shut up our nuts, pander to the Hispanic community, but still expect the same behavior from them? Just saying we should raise expectations a little

When Graham and Lott said that SOME of the opposition was coming from racists (true statement), a very large number of people got loudly offended at them for saying it.

When Linda Chavez said that 10% of the people opposing any and all immigration reform were racists, 90% of the responses she got were (a) indignant as hell and (b) at least borderline racist, if not very obviously racist.

Generally, if you throw a stick at a pack of dogs, only the one you actually hit yelps.

My comments were as to the people on FR and the General and other places where people go over the top. I am not really referring to this board or to the people that post on it.

I trust as in your work as party chair, you make sure that the views that see on FR and other places toward their fellow republicans are not allowed to get out of hand and that you work to being the party together.

If you call someone a racist and they object, it is because they really are racist and don’t like being outed.
If you call someone a racist and they remain quiet, it is because they really are racist and don’t want to be outed.

And the biggest “immigration hypochondriac” racist of all time? Barbara Jordan.

  14. Cobalt Shiva says:

Retire05: if someone mentions that some (not all, some) of the opposition are racists, and a group of people scream all manner of abuse at the person who said it, what does that say about that group of people?

  15. reader2007 says:

Should I be offended that you are saying I am comparable to Jesse Jackson. Although you didnt refer to me by name, should I just assume you are saying that I think like Jesse Jackson?

As such, should I give you my resume and background to justify why I think your wrong about that?

    HA HA HA.

Remember…the immigration bill failed….HA HA HA.

Loneferret, I ahve mentioned this before but I think the word “pander” should for all practical purposes be abolished. The word “pander” is meant to be negative. Various groups in the Colation get their views heard and engaged and I think that it is bad to call it pandering.

That being said, from the outset I have said that the Hispanic community was not even attempted to be understood as to this bill or the issue or immigration reform. It does not help that today no major Republicans running for PResident will be speaking at the Conference of elected Latino officals in Florida. Latino Republicans in Florida are livid because they lobbyed hard to get it in Florida where our Hispanic Republican strength is the greatest. So to say the least I am not sure it is the Hispanic community that is at fault here.

The same dismal performance was done at the Hispanic Evangelical conference in DC a few weeks back. Those are our natural allies.

It takes a lot to get get the different aspect of the hispanic community on the same political page but it appears we are bumbling right into it.

THe problem is that the Leaders that opposed the immigration reform bill did not make sure they did damage control. I will give a fine example of what should have been followed. THe other day I listened to Sean Hannity. Sen Hatch who opposed the bill was on. He did a fine job , I thought in stating his opposition to the bill while stating clear he was empahetic with Hispanic concerns. We should have seen more of that.

Biglsufan, as party chair it is my responsibility to try to bring Republican (conservative) values to everyone, no matter their religion, race or status in society.
My assistant chair is a Tejano (native Texan of Latino heritage). He is also a Lt.Col. (Rt) in the National Guard who served 18 months in Afghanistan. I no more hold him responsible for La Raza’s position (a position that angers him deeply) than he holds me responsible for Louis Farrakhan or David Duke. He was extremely against the Shamnesty bill. Why? Because of the damage it would do to native born Americans of Latino heritage.

I always liked Orin Hatch. He always articulates his opinions in a reasoned and thoughtful fashion.

The hispanic vote is indeed a realistic concern especially as it relates to the next election. We are getting close to the 2008 elections. I wonder how long this immigration bill fiasco will be in the minds of this evergrowing part of the electorate.

With the way the radical right is still hissyfitting, even in victory, we may be continuing to damage relations with the hispanics.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think giving amnesty to illegals is the way to retain the hispanic vote. I believed that the immigration bill was not amnesty and a reasonably good first step to true immigration reform. This was my position. So please no hissyfitting that I want to trade amnesty for votes!!! (I know it will happen, though…HA HA HA).

I guess you missed Nightline last nite where a black woman
prominent in the forced bussing riots and near riots admitted
in effect the segregationists were right all along and the government
forcing the races together was the culprit. Said the lesson was,
a black doesn’t need to sit by a white to get an education.
