Two Suspicious Cars In London

Published by AJStrata at 2:30 pm under All General Discussions, Bin Laden/GWOT

In addition to the actual car bomb found in Picadilly there seems to be two more suspicious cars in London as police have cordoned of a section of Park Lane and Fleet Street. Note that the hyped title of the article is highly misleading.

Major Update: Second car had bomb materials inside.

    Explosive Find in London…

Law enforcement and intel officials note that there was no intel on this given incident - meaning they didn’t know that this particular plot was ongoing until it was discovered this morning….

AJ, is any of this stuff made up? I’ve never doubted you on subjects such as this, but with all the hype and made up stuff, (which I specifically quoted to you on immigration threads) it makes me wonder.

I mean, it does come from the (formerly) MSM and I don’t know if those folks can be trusted or not.
(I’m questioning sources accuracy, not yours)

    AJ,

    I hope you’ve seen this:

    http://www.nefafoundation.org/miscellaneous/East_Coast_Buildings_Plot.pdf

It deals with Barot, the guy who this un-named suspect currently in British custody is connected to, and the previous plot which looks like it gave rise to this current foiled attack.

This is the times when we should all be very happy we have Pres Bush, a man that understands how important it is to carry on the GWOT. I’m afraid some others would still be treating it as a law enforcement deal and vigilance would be very decreased and the bombing may well have occurred.

Colin, and there are some that would not permit questioning of high value prisoners at Gtmo. Seems this was some good info and may well have been instrumental in the surv. that resulting in this avoidance. Good info Colin. thanks.

    FE,

    You are absolutely correct.

I give thanks every day for George Bush being our President especially when it comes to the issue of terrorism.

I can remember vividly on the morning of 9/11 what one of my first thoughts were. “Thank God George Bush is in the White House.”

Don’t get me wrong, I am not a empty headed Bush-bot by any means. I think he was dead wrong on McCain-Feingold, big spending, and of course border security.

    Especially border security.

During a time of war I just cannot fathom why he hasn’t taken that issue by the horns and fixed it. He could have deployed the National Guard to both borders years ago. There are so many things that he should have done to get the holes plugged up. I get so frustrated just thinking about it I could scream.

You can always predict the reactions from the left when these types of terror plots are revealed:

If the plot is busted up then it’s just a scare tactic.

If the plot is successful then Bush new about it in advance.

It’s just a matter of time until the contortions on the left begin. One of their own takes them to task here.

Show us proof that Bush lied about the WMDs

Show us proof that Bush changed his position on the Patriot Act.

Show us proof that Bush created a police state, which masses do not respect, while continuing an Islamophobic policy and baiting the Moslem world.

Show us proof that Bush said it should copy Israel.

And the result is that you will lack the proof of any or all of the above.

Bush NEVER lied about the WMDs. He told the world that Saddam must show us WMDs or inventory according to the UN1442 or else. The UN 1442 also said Saddam violdated the 1991 ceasefire.

Congress and the world said Saddam did indeed have WMDs. Bush used some of these argumentst to help the Americans understand that we needed to invade Iraq because it was the easiest argument. But we invaded Iraq for more than just WMDs. You really don’t have the history behind it to support your statemenst other than believing what your left bloggers tell you.

Bush did not change his position on the Patriot Act. Congress did.

There is no police state here in USA. Where is that police state that you are referring to? The police state would be what would have been like living under the Nazis and Russia. Examples would be curfew hours, breaking into someone’s home at midnight, captured, and arrested without word to family where they went or were killed. Did you know of anyone close to you that was captured, arrested, and/or killed here without charge here in USA?

The world is facing Islam threats from the radical, militant Islamists.

Take a look at London’s foiled Islam attacks in the last two days. Are they not Islam threats to you?

    “THECENTERISABUNGHOLE”

Your IDOL, Larry “CIA Analyst” Johnson, foaming, screeching child-member of the Leftist, Anti-American/Pro-Jihadi Nutbag crowd, is on a “winning streak”, isn’t he?

A month before 9/11, he said Americans were too focused on “terrorism”, and that there was basically no threat to the United States from “terrorism”!

Last night, he joined fellow Leftist Nutbag/Lunar Chiroptera colongy member, Herr Keith “Isn’t it suspicious that when Bush drops in the Polls, these “terrorist attacks” occur?” OBERLOON, to pooh pooh the double failed car-bombing attempt in London yesterday, as the work of amateurs, and not much ado about anything!

    HEY LARRY!

You Freaking NUT! You are ZERO for TWO, and about to STRIKE OUT, you freaking Anti-American/Pro-Jihadi MORON!

Either Center spends all his time in places like where Larry posts because he admires him in a man love sorta way or else he ran across it searching the net for viagra because he has a hot date with Rosie who is now complaining of carpal tunnel syndrome.

  28. MerlinOS2on 30 Jun 2007 at 5:04 pm

Well AP is confirming the Brits are saying they are linking the airport attack to the London stuff.

Rae said the badly burnt man was found to have a “suspect device” hidden on his body, but he would not confirm it was a suicide vest. The hospital briefly had to be evacuated while the device was inspected.

The attack, which Scotland’s first minister described as a “terrorist incident,” came barely 36 hours after police thwarted a possible al Qaeda plot in London in which two cars loaded with fuel, gas canisters and nails were left on a busy street in the centre of the capital poised to detonate.

  29. retire05on 30 Jun 2007 at 5:52 pm

If center is swallowing anything by Larry Johnson, my God, do we need an I.Q. test before AJ allows someone to post here? Johnson has been out of the CIA for how many years? And nevermind the fact that his ex-chippy, Val Plame-game, is no longer there to feed him any information.
Of course, in July2001, Johnson said that terrorists attacks against the U.S. were the lowest thing on his priority list. This guy needs to be turned loose at GITMO after the inmates have been told he was the one that ratted on them.

BTW, Center, French Intelligence is an oxymoron.

HotAir has a couple of posts doing follow ups on the breaking news.

Would be interesting if this part pans out

It was reported last night that the first car, a metallic green Mercedes, was stolen in early June and was spotted first in Scotland and then in Birmingham in the two days before the bomb was defused in London.

Police say they are looking for an Iraqi who went on the run from a control order only 11 days before yesterday’s failed bombing attempts. The man, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, is part of a six-strong cell linked to al-Qaeda in Iraq.

He went missing on 18 June in north-west England, and his whereabouts are unknown.

The Scotsman understands that MI5 and counter-terrorism police consider him a suspect in the failed attacks. However, security sources insisted he was “one of many possibilities”.

  33. ivehaditon 30 Jun 2007 at 8:22 pm

I see they arrested two men in Northern England….

  34. MerlinOS2on 30 Jun 2007 at 8:30 pm

HotAir is almost live blogging this thing

Update: CNN’s finally added the bit about the third suspect to its story on this and includes and adds a detail to the arrests of the two new suspects — they’re wanted in connection with both today’s attack and the car bombs yesterday.

Update: The Observer names the Algerian suspect — Lamine Adam, along with his brother Ibrahim and another guy who skipped out on his control order named Cerie Bullivant — and explains how British intel could have missed this plot. Put simply, too many jihadis, too few MI5:

  35. colinon 30 Jun 2007 at 10:29 pm

Just wanted to add a couple of follow-up thoughts to my previous post. First off, if this recent plot is the coming to fruition of Barot’s original limo plan, then we shouldn’t be surprised if eventually, we find members of this cell right here in the US. After all, the original plot was to use these car bombs we’re seeing in the UK against financial targets right here in the US, like the NYSE, the World Bank, the IMF, and the Prudential building. Barot conducted extensive and long-term surveillance against these targets, and it wouldn’t be unthinkable that he either left behind some significant terrorist infrastructure (like a cell) after he left, or that he linked up with an already-existing local terror network when he came over here. In other words, he might have imported a terror “franchise” into the US, to act in his absence. If so, that terror cell might still be around, since, even though Barot’s plan has already been exposed and he’s been sent to prison, law enforcement and Counter-Terror officials the world over have a bias against interconnectedness when it comes to terrorists, they prefer to see terrorists as part of a movement, instead of a network, and plots to arise from home-grown, “self-actualized” actors, instead of a global terror infrastructure. It’s not an intentional bias, it’s just a little groupthink, but it’s still a problem.

Second, I wouldn’t be surprised to see an attack with a urea nitrate truck bome pretty soon here, in order to make up for the fizzles we’ve seen with these propane tank car bombs. They’d want to re-establish their terror bona fides as quickly as possible, in order not to be seen as incompetents. I think this operation was rushed in order to test Gordon Brown as quickly as possible, and in doing so, they used an untested technique. Any attacks in the future won’t have to be subject to such a rushed schedule, and may be much more effective. On that note, I think this kind of attack could work much better in the US, since because of the large unpopulated areas, a cell could test their bomb concepts out before the actual attacks, and works the bugs out.

Okay, now that I’m done playing terror expert, I’d love to here what you guys have to say.

  36. lurker9876on 30 Jun 2007 at 11:31 pm

George Tenet’s book is not 100 percent credible so don’t take it all with a grain of salt.

There was someone that wrote an article today or yesterday challenging some portions of George Tenet’s book.

    Larry missed 9/11?

Bush trumped him-he missed 9/11, then quadrupled the losses
by missing Iraq. And you still follow his WOT, while he gives

You got it goin’ loser, on both fronts!

  43. lurker9876on 02 Jul 2007 at 10:41 am

    Bush did not miss 9/11.

The total casualties in Iraq is far less than Clinton’s and Clinton was in peacetime. Nope, we’re not losing at all. We’re winning!
