Bush Succeeds With North Korea

Published by at 11:47 am under All General Discussions

Despite all the leftwing handwringing and ridiculous calls to move from multi-party regional talks to unilateral US-NK talks (without the pressure from NK’s neighbors) Bush held firm and has succeeded with North Korea and their nuclear threat.

NORTH Korea has confirmed that it has shut down its Yongbyon atomic reactor under UN supervision, the first step in a process designed to rid the communist state of nuclear weapons.

The closure of the facility, which produces plutonium for nuclear weapons, is the first move taken by Pyongyang towards ending its atomic program since 2002, and the first phase of a six-nation disarmament deal reached in February.

This is a major achievement for the Bush adminstration and demonstrates why regional talks that apply regional pressures are optimal to resolving these kinds of issues. Much better than the impotent UN and relieves the US from all responsibility to get things accomplished and threaten our use of force. Regional pressure is a much better option.

What’s the guarantee that NK would keep its reactor shut down?

If they don’t this time we will probably destroy it. We are quickly reaching a point in technological superiority where just about the entire military force in North Korea will be obsolete. We have pretty much already made massed armor obsolete and will soon have systems in the field that can protect against morters, artillery, and missiles. The North Koreans would not stand a chance in a battle with us. Basically they are spending the vast portion of their GNP on a military that would be completely ineffective against ours. It would be almost like sending horse cavalry against tanks.

Shutdown is a milestone that resulted in initial oil shipment allocations, another step is certification that the plant has been irreversibly disabled beyond repair.

When dealing with a country like NK there are never guarantees, however, everyone {including China} is fed up with their nonsense and it might be that they know it. If they back out again, it will be a lot easier for the president to order a military attack on the facility.

Don’t mess with Texas and Texans! HAHAHA!!

And I’m a proud Okie and Texan!

Anyway, Bush’s polls went up to 39 percent. If the surge continues to go well, then his polling numbers should go up.

How about Congress? Still at 14 percent?
