More Movement In Iraq
Just some events in Iraq which may not be hitting the headlines. Both the Sunni bloc and Sadr’s Mahdi bloc in Iraq’s parliament have both ended their boycots, showing a resurgency of support for the Iraqi government. Hopefully the time off from the heat of the debate will bring cooler heads and progress to the governing side aspect of the challenges in Iraq. While these opposing blocs always make success difficult, at least they are back to the table and the democratic process.
Those factions returning to government is probably the reason why Democrats are suddenly starting to say “the benchmarks don’t mean anything”. See, the benchmarks were imperative when they believed they weren’t being met. When word came out that “not a single benchmark” was met, it was used to add fuel to the surrender express. Then it came out that many of the benchmarks WERE being met, now two groups who had been stalling government progress are headed back which bodes well for further progress. Now they are all “the benchmarks don’t mean much” now that there is a better chance of even more success.
It could be that they are finally going to vote on the oil law. That would be a major bench mark met.
