Are We Safer Than Before 9-11?
Most Americans believe we are safer than we were prior to 9-11:
Opinion Dynamics Corp. conducted the national telephone poll of 900 registered voters for FOX News from Aug. 21 to Aug. 22. The poll has a 3-point error margin.
The poll finds that 48 percent of Americans think the United States is safer today than before Sept. 11, while 33 percent think the country is less safe. Today’s results are almost identical to findings from this time last year, though somewhat less positive than in early 2004, when 58 percent said the country was safer (3-4 March 2004).
Well, we can thank President George Bush for not only feeling safer, but being safer as we have stopped numerous attempts to attack this nation and its people. And I would gather most Americans are aware the Liberals – in Congress, on Federal Benches and in the media – are the ones attempting to destroy our defences. From the ludicrous claims our monitoring terrorists overseas is the same as rampant spying on Americans to the idea we should close down GITMO (where all the really, really bad terrorists are we have captured are being held) and give them ACLU lawyers and trials here in our great nation, it is clear which side is fighting to give al-Qaeda an opening to repeat 9-11. If there is a drop in feeling secure it might be due to the lunatics now running Congress.
As the liberals try and salvage a win for al-Qaeda from their disasterous loss in Iraq we can all step back on this upcoming anniversary of 9-11 and thank our lucky stars President Bush was on the oval office that fateful day. Because a Democrat would have suspended our spying on terrorists (as a liberal judge just tried to make happen on the FIS Court). A Democrat would not have gone after the Taliban or forced al-Qaeda to fight us in Iraq. A Democrat would be more focused on making sure terrorists had fair trials here in the US – where the terrorists might get OFF on technicalities of not being Mirandized on the battle field. These are the stated positions of the Democrats – I am not putting words in their mouths.
Bush took the fight to al-Qaeda and now they are the enemy of a large Muslim nation called Iraq and we have not been hit in 6 years. Talk is cheap, and irrelevant coming out of politician. Results are all that matter in politics. Things have changed a lot since 9-11.
Shouldn’t your headline read “Are We safer than Before 9/11?” ? Sorry to be a grammatical pedant.
Thanks JD – one of my classic typos.

We were “unsafe” on Sept 10, 2001 not because we were hated, but because we were not respected. For me, it follows that in order to determine whether we are safe now or not, we have to determine if we have restored the respect of those who would do us harm.
The question answers itself. SIX YEARS. If anyone believes we haven’t had an attack on American soil for six years because somehow we have managed to interdict our enemy’s CAPABILITY, I would say that is mistaken. There is NO WAY to eradicate the jihadi’s capability to do us harm, if he wanted to. No, what we have done, through the consequences to the entire ME region, is not only restore the respect factor, but evidently we have caused the enemy to consider the consequences of another attack.
I am not predicting that there will never be another attack on America, but I am saying that a Democracy in Iraq is the consequence that will one day cause the belligerence to cease. The vaunted Arab Street is already cautioning restraint, and the jihad is now in danger of losing their respect.
Of course we are safer because George Bush put this nation on a war footing, something that Clinton didn’t do. Besides respect which I think is a key component to being safer, think of all the knowledge we have about the Islamofacists now. Because we are in Afghanistan and Iraq we have collected invaluable information on how these guys work and who many of them the are, where they go, how they fight. We have exposed their sympathizers to the world. They can no longer be ignored. That makes us more safe but safety is not an absolute.
Unfortunately, England and Europe aren’t convinced as a whole…yet.
What Kathie said.
We are safer now because the National Command Authority takes terrorism seriously.
If we choose to elect any the more buffoonish candidates–there are Democrats and Republicans that are buffoons–seeking the office of President, we will once again place ourselves in mortal peril.
If we weren’t hurting AQ, Osama wouldn’t be pleading for more Dems to take over.
GWB and the fine men & women in our services have kept us safe thus far…..I shudder to think what will happen to us if the Dems do take over all aspects of our government.
