Israel Targets Syrian Nuke Complex, Britain Moves Troops To Iranian Border

Things are popping, as expected when Congress puts on a Circus and all the side show acts want a shot a the media’s coverage of the clowns. It seems Israel detected some nuclear installations being built up in Syria (thanks to North Korea) and took them out:

The official added that recent Israeli reconnaissance flights over Syria revealed possible nuclear installations that Israeli officials estimate might have been supplied with material from North Korea.

According to the Times, American officials confirmed Tuesday that Israeli jets launched an airstrike inside Syria. Sources said that Israel struck at least one target in northeastern Syria, but could not provide more details.

I predicted a while back Syria would be the next focus after Iraq – and not because we are out empire building but because the last bastions of Islamo Fascism and anti-west despots are in Iran and Syria, respectfully. And speaking of Iran, it seems we are fortifying the Iran-Iraq border with the help of our British allies:

British forces have been sent from Basra to the volatile border with Iran amid warnings from the senior US commander in Iraq that Tehran is fomenting a “proxy war”.

In signs of a fast-developing confrontation, the Iranians have threatened military action in response to attacks launched from Iraqi territory while the Pentagon has announced the building of a US base and fortified checkpoints at the frontier.

The UK operation, in which up to 350 troops are involved, has come at the request of the Americans, who say that elements close to the Iranian regime have stepped up supplies of weapons to Shia militias in recent weeks in preparation for attacks inside Iraq.

The surest sign we have that Iraq is swinging our way are these panicked moved by Syria and Iran. If either thought we were on the way to defeat they would sit back, let it happen and enjoy themselves. But since they are more and more exposing themselves to world denunciation with these acts, it seems more likely they are trying to do whatever they can to stop America from winning in Iraq.

And where are the Democrats? Visiting Damascus and charging this country with war crimes of course:

The Ohio congressman, in his address to the Syrian people, praised Syrian President Bashar Assad, whom U.S. officials have accused of allowing Islamists to cross his border into Iraq for the purpose of killing U.S. troops.

“I feel the United States is engaging in an illegal occupation,” Mr. Kucinich said.

Supporting the enemy on their national TV – how quaint. Ohio needs to decide if Kucinich is representing them or Syrian interests. Right now he seems to be a puppet of Syria.

There are numerous dems/libs where a charge of ‘treason’ would appropriate.
While everybody appears to justify the acts of treason with the 1st Amendment, I argue that the First Amendment has a line which should not be crossed.
The line has been crossed one too many times, and enough is enough, where are the leaders? I am really tired of those hiding behind free speech, when tehy know darn well, they have crossed that line!

  2. Soothsayer says:

    And where are the Republicans?

Fomenting another unnecessary war in which they will not serve. Figuring out how to continue billion dollar no-bid contracts for fraudulent defense contractors like Dick Cheney’s Halliburton. Coming up with new ways to anger 1.2 billion Muslims, wasting precious lives and American treasure on a ill-advised crusade in the Middle East, and trying to solicit sex in mens’ rooms across America.

    Grand Old Party, indeed.

  3. ivehadit says:

So, since you and your chorts continually try to paint all republicans as one, does that mean that all you guys are drowners and sex addicts with zero values?

    Just wondering….

copperhead, you talk about Halliburton. You know absolutely nothing about how the government proposal process work. Halliburton was the ONLY one that was capable of doing the logistics work and be ready to do it at that time. There were other companies that can do similar work but they weren’t able to handle the size of logistics within a very short period of time.

You lose. Give it a break.

  7. Soothsayer says:

So because Halliburton has a needed skill we should allow them to defraud the government for 2 billion dollars??? Is that the “free market” at work.

Meanwhile, oil prices climbed above $80 a barrel today, the US economy is ready to tank, we’re losing jobs, the sub-prime lender mess is causing new car sales to plummet because of tight money concerns, and Israel wants to bomb Syria, while George and Dick dream of starting a new war with Iran.

There’s a great freakin’ idea – let’s see if we can get oil prices up over $120.00 a barrel, because Americans are complaining that their energy costs aren’t high enough.

    1. Halliburton was the only company that submitted a bid on the proposal.

    2. The RFP and contract award took place during the Clinton administration.

    3. The overcharges were identified and the government was reimbursed.

  10. Soothsayer says:

The RFP and contract award took place during the Clinton administration.

    Bullcrap.

Thursday 28 August 2003 – Halliburton, the company formerly headed by Vice President Cheney, has won contracts worth more than $1.7 billion under Operation Iraqi Freedom and stands to make hundreds of millions more dollars under a no-bid contract awarded by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, according to newly available documents.

    Clinton Administration??

The fastest growing contractor, however, is Dick Cheney’s Halliburton, which raked in $763 million in 2000, to nearly $6 billion in 2005, an increase of an astounding 672% over the five years. Abuse of the contracting process also climbed, with an even faster rate of growth of non-competitive contracts, which grew 115%, from $67.5 billion in 2000 to $145 billion in 2005.

Clinton Administration. $6 billion in 2005 is Clinton Administration?

In March 2003, Kellogg Brown & Root, Halliburton’s construction and engineering subsidiary, received from the Pentagon what is called a sole-source contract, meaning it was awarded without bidding, to restore and operate Iraqi oil wells. The contract, which was classified when it was awarded just before the invasion of Iraq, could be worth as much as $7 billion.

    Clinton Administration???

    What are you smoking??

  11. Cobalt Shiva says:

    Clinton Administration??

What became the Operation Iraqi Freedom contract was originally a contingency RFP put out in 1999–which happens to have been during the Clinton Administration. Halliburton submitted the only bid.

    What are you smoking??

Soothie, me lad, if you have no idea how the DoD RFP and/or contracting process works, it is far better to keep silent, and merely be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all remaining doubt.

  12. lurker9876 says:

Cobalt, agreed. Copperhead / soothie needs to keep his mouth shut. His posts about Halliburton makes him lose even more credibility. Halliburton was also probably the only company that have far more employees with security clearance.

Just wait…the ’09 US President will continue to think about Iran. Every US President and Pentagon always keep that military option open for those troublesome countries. You don’t know what you’re smoking.

  13. AJStrata says:

    Sooth,

If the RFP came out in 1999 and Haliburton was working in 2000 (when we VOTED to elect Bush) then it was not a Bush administration initiative – they just managed it after the award. Looks like you been busted again.

  14. Soothsayer says:

Come off it, guys. Don’t try to tell me a contract awarded in 2003 was Clinton’s doing. That’s total crap:

In March 2003, Kellogg Brown & Root, Halliburton’s construction and engineering subsidiary, received from the Pentagon what is called a sole-source contract, meaning it was awarded without bidding, to restore and operate Iraqi oil wells.

Why would Clinton have been “restoring and operating Iraqi wells”. You idiots can’t even read.

  15. ivehadit says:

Tell us soothie, who you would have had doing that work.
    We’re waiting…..

  16. lurker9876 says:

    Come on, sooth/copperhead.

Pentagon had done the research to know that the only option that they have is sole-source because Halliburton is the ONLY company that can handle the logistics in a timely manner [and in a short period of time] with its employees already having security clearance. Pentagon apparently knew that the other companies could not do the job that Halliburton can do.

If you really, really, really want to find out why the Pentagon chose sole-source with Halliburton, why don’t you write a letter to the Pentagon and ask them this question? The government would not allow sole-source unless they are given a very good reason for sole-source contract award. They would not allow the Pentagon to grant Halliburton a sole-source contract if the Pentagon did not have a good reason. A US President and VP still wouldn’t have enough power to tell the Pentagon to award Halliburton a sole-source contract. That’s ridiculous for you to think Cheney had something to do to influence Pentagon’s decision to sole-source Halliburton.

You still don’t know how RFP’s work so you don’t know what you’re talking about.

  17. Cobalt Shiva says:

Come off it, guys. Don’t try to tell me a contract awarded in 2003 was Clinton’s doing.

OK, soothie, I will explain it one more time. Follow the bouncing ball, m’kay?

    1. In 1999, the Pentagon, under the direction of President Clinton’s Secretary of Defense, William Cohen, issued a request for proposals, or RFP. The RFP solicited proposals for rebuilding Iraq’s oilfields in the event of the US invading Iraq and/or a sudden collapse of the Hussein regime. This was in response to President Clinton signing the Iraq Liberation Act 0n October 31st, 1998.

    2. Halliburton was the one and only firm to submit a proposal in response to the RFP during the period the RFP was open.

    3. In 2002/03, when planning for Operation Iraqi Freedom entered high gear, the Pentagon reviewed the 1999 RFP. Suprise, surprise, surprise, Halliburton was the one and only respondent to that RFP.

    4. At that point, the sole-source contract was the one and only option, absent Congress passing new legislation that modified the relevant provisions of the 1998 act and thus reopening the RFP process.

    5. This displeased the Office of Secretary of Defense’s acquisition team mightily, for verily and forsooth, a sole-source procurement requireth much additional paperwork to be submitted in justification of sole-sourcing the work that thou desireth to be accomplished.

    6. Sonny boy, I’ve done more work in defense acquisition than anyone in their right mind should even contemplate. Kindly refrain from telling me how the process works, before I come over there and make you fill out a JNCP, a KPP, a CRD, a MEOC document, and a POA&M.

I see you used the word crusade. Only Al Quaeda uses that out-dated word for this war. I guess this proves you are not an American. You are Al Quaeda. I’ve thought so for some time ever since you went so ballistic about how I spelled Al Quaeda. You pretend to be an American by posting surface stuff but nothing in depth or well thought out. Maybe you were a student here at one time. Maybe an airline pilot who didn’t want to learn how to land the plane.
