Forget Immigrant Workers Here To Make A Living, Protect Our Borders From WMDs!

Want to know why the diversion of what would have to be many times the law enforcement resources we have now on tracking down painters, maids, landscapers and other immigrant workers here to simply make a living is a suicidally dumb idea? Well, if your efforts are focused on the 12-20 million people here working without a work visa then you cannot spend the time or resources looking for the 3-4 people needed to smuggle WMDs across the borders:

A terrorist wanting to smuggle radioactive material from Canada into the United States probably would find it easy to do, a new report from congressional investigators said.

Government investigators were able to cross from Canada into the United States carrying a duffle bag with contents that looked like radioactive material and never encountered a law enforcement official, according to a report released Thursday by investigators from the Government Accountability Office.

“Our work clearly shows substantial vulnerabilities in the northern border to terrorist or criminals entering the United States undetected,” the GAO’s Greg Kutz testified Thursday at a Senate Finance Committee hearing on the topic.

The investigators made crossings from Canada into the United States three times in fall 2006, the report said

We are being blinded by paranoia. The far right is obsessed with the southern border and the influx of hispanic cultures stresses on our own society. They are obsessed with the 12-20 million people who have lived here for years working the underground economy. Their goals and desires require a tripling or quadrupling of our law enforcement resources, basically diverting 3-4 times are current capacity on the issue of illegal workers, when the issue is terrorism.

People checking IDs and Visas, etc are not paying as much attention to what these people may be bringing in. The Litvinenko story is a clear example of how much deadly material one person can bring across with LEGAL access. A suger pack of Po-210 can kill hundreds of thousands, if not millions. That is because ten-millionths of a gram is all that is required to kill one person (Litivnenko). A sugar pack, being one gram, contains 10 million doses of this size. Even with dispersion and ingestion efficiencies in the 1% range we are talking hundreds of thousands of dead.

The amnesty hypochondriacs are dangerously distracted. None of their guest worker issues address this kind of threat. They are focused in the South, ignoring our cultural twin’s border to the north. They focus on English as a prime language when radiation doesn’t speak any language. The fact they are distracted and confused has no bearing on what the rest of us need to do. The left is distracted and obsessed with surrendering Iraq. It is the sane middle of this country that needs to step up and get past all these silly diversions and protect our families and communities.

How is “Operation WetBacks” different from this?

And wasn’t there a previous US President that deported immigrants?

  2. Dc says:

why don’t you invite the terroists in and offer them a drivers lic, apt, benefits, and a path to citizenship????

And, as related to your last hyperventaltion….maybe you should read this:

    DC,

It is BS hyperventilating like yours that makes your comments irrelevant. I am not the one obsessed with immigrant workers, I am the one calling for us not to lose sight of the terrorists. The fact it the background checks in the guest worker program were at least an attempt to screen people. We don’t screen them right now – we have only terrorist watch lists. Being naive about the resources required for the hypochondriac’s fantasies is not a winning argument.

I suggest you stop proving my point about the distraction and confusion that permeates the hypochondriacs. Yours is a perfect example of ‘they don’t get it and never will’.

Please, run for office! You can be to the left of the right, and to the right of the left! Right smack dab in the center! Try it!

Why do you call people who came here illegaly immigrants?

My websters Dictionary has this defenition of Alien: belonging to another, a foreign born resident of a country in which he is NOT Naturalized.
Granted, it’s a 1944 dictionary, but it would seem it is a correct defenition of those who by pass the laws of an other country.

There was an article yesterday on Canadian Border Guards, and just how bad they are at firing guns. Not to encouraging.

I’m all for a Wall or fencing on Both Borders. A few weeks ago the Mecklenberg County Sherriff was on our local morning talk show. He is a Democrate, but man, if I could, I’d vote for him! He is in the federal program to identify Aliens. I wish I could remember the numbers, but in the last year they have arested a few thousand Aliens, and deported many. What was very revealing was that somewhere around half of those deported are RE ARRESTED RIGHT HERE IN THE SAME CITY THEY WERE DEPORTED FROM WITHIN THE SAME YEAR! Isn’t that amazing?

I think it absolutely says we need a wall or fence to keep the criminal elements out. Otherwise, were just chasing our tail. One man he mentioned from El Salvador, was arrested for stealing cars and was deported to his home County in February of 2007. He was rearrested FOR THE SAME CRIME IN CHARLOTTE IN JUNE 2007.
He is very frustrated with the Federal Government, to say the least. Another man, I forget where he was from, was arrested for rape in March 2007, deported, and he too, was re arrested for THE SAME CRIME IN CHARLOTTE, a few months later.
    His jail is alway full.

And a few weeks ago, a story in the Houston Chronical, as well as other places, had the Government admite that yes, terrorist ARE Crossing our Southern Border. Duh! Who did not think that!

And of course, under the “Diversity Lottery” we have let over 10,000 people emigrate here legaly from Syria, Iran, and other terror sponsoring states.

We are slowly committing National Suicide. Between Illegal Aliens, and Legal Immigration, and our desires not to secure our borders, we just continue down the road of stupidness. Oh well what can I do? I’m out of NEW ideas !

    Stevevvs,

I have no interest in running. My family has plenty of pols in it and I understand the toll it takes.

And while I am sometimes deliberately loose with the term legal vs illegal immigrants, the fact is it is not illegal to be here. The only laws broken are civil and misdemeanors.

It is the same as calling someone who drives after getting a speeding ticket an “illegal driver”. They are not illegal drivers nor are they criminals (which is a termed used to refer to felons). Not my fault we have to constantly correct the errors of the hypochondriacs.

Of course, if they did not exaggerate or misuse terms they would not be hyperchondriacs now would they?

  6. stevevvs says:

Ok, I won’t encourage you to run again.

Of course, if they did not exaggerate or misuse terms they would not be hyperchondriacs now would they? AREN’T YOU DOING THE SAME? Not trying to argue, but you always seem to call the immigrants, or illegal immigrants. Neither term is correct.

Anyway, I only logged back in to post on Charlotte. I found this from 2006, still looking to see if any article have been written on the deportation, and return figures from 2007. They were not available from 2006, as that was the first year of the Federal Program in Charlotte. But here is 2006 figure, and a side note, in 2007 we have arrrested more than TWICE as many as last year, and we still have 3 months to go:

County Effort to Stop Illegal Immigrants Being Eyed Nationally

    Who’s Being Deported?

Mecklenburg County sheriff deputies have checked the status of 1,973 inmates since the program began. These include existing inmates as well as new ones. Of those, 930 were identified as being here illegally.

    • The Sheriff’s Office had the following breakdown for 764 of the 930 identified:

    521 were Mexican

    118 were Honduran

    42 were Salvadoran

    34 were Guatemalan

    49 were other nationalities

    • The following were the most common charges:

    DWI: 192

    Traffic violations: 176

    Assault: 73

    Drugs: 58

    Theft: 29…..
So, 294 for dwi, assault and theft. The more serious crimes.

I can’t find any articles on 2007. I found some, but when I click on them, they take me to pages that have expired. I’m busy getting ready for work, so I can’t search any longer. His name is Jim Pendergraph. Maybe some one else might want to search for the 2007 Charlotte stats.

Anyway, take care folks! See you later.

  7. stevevvs says:

Eating while searching. I don’t think the figures for 07 will be relased till the end of the year. But here is a good article on one of our “Immigrants” as they are called here.

Police accuse man of being serial rapist
Illegal immigrant charged in attacks spanning nearly 2 years

    BY MELISSA MANWARE

An illegal immigrant who was about to be deported has been charged with raping three Charlotte women in a series of attacks that left police frustrated and female joggers leery for nearly two years.

Jose C. Rivera, 26, was in Atlanta awaiting deportation when the rape charges were filed Friday. The charges will stop the deportation proceedings.

Rivera is accused of attacking three women in different parts of Charlotte between April 2004 and Sept. 2005. Police say he talked his way into a victim’s home, attacked another in the common area outside her apartment, and then, wearing only red underwear, grabbed a jogger who was running alone.

A month after that rape, in October 2005, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police announced that they had evidence connecting the three rapes, but had been unable to identify the attacker. They used DNA to link the cases.

It’s unclear what evidence detectives now have to connect Rivera to the attacks. But last year, he was convicted of receiving a stolen vehicle. As a felon, he would have been required to surrender a DNA sample.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police would not comment on details of the case Monday. Spokeswoman Julie Hill said detectives had not interviewed Rivera and fear the publicity could jeopardize their investigation. The warrants, however, are public record.

As Mecklenburg’s immigrant community has grown in recent years, illegal immigration has become a controversial topic. Since last spring, the Mecklenburg sheriff has been working to identify illegal immigrants among jail inmates and get them deported.

Records show Rivera, who’s from Honduras, has been jailed in Mecklenburg County at least eight times since 2004. In November 2006, he was deported, a spokesman with Immigration and Customs Enforcement said.

Most recently, Rivera spent five weeks in the Mecklenburg jail on breaking and entering charges.

Because he was not charged with a violent felony and was about to be released, the sheriff turned him over to immigration officials Thursday, sheriff’s spokeswoman Julia Rush said.

Rapes by strangers are uncommon in Charlotte-Mecklenburg and across the country — and more difficult to solve than acquaintance rapes. Nationally, about seven of 10 women who report sexual assaults know their attacker. Each of the women Rivera is accused of raping was attacked in the morning by a man with a weapon.

The first was April 2, 2004. A 32-year-old woman told police a stranger talked his way into her apartment on Roseview Lane off Eastway Drive around 10:45 a.m. Once inside he pulled out a handgun and raped her. Police would not say what the man said to get in the door.

On Feb. 19, 2005, a 41-year-old woman told police a man overpowered her outside apartments on Woodway Hills Drive off Independence Boulevard around 4:30 a.m. He forced her to perform oral sex on him and raped her. The man used a sharp instrument as a weapon.

Then, on Sept. 25, 2005, a female jogger told police a man grabbed her and threatened her with a screwdriver as she ran along East Boulevard in Dilworth around 7 a.m. The woman said the man pulled her behind a building near Springdale Avenue and raped her. He was wearing only red underwear, and a white cloth covered much of his face.

Last January, police said the serial rapist may have attempted to strike again, after a 41-year-old woman in Myers Park fought off a man with Tae Bo, a type of kick-boxing exercise.

The woman told police she was walking alone when he came up behind her and reached his hands between her legs to try to pick her up.

She screamed and kicked the man, who fled without physically injuring her.

That woman’s description of her attacker closely matched the description given by the woman attacked in Myers Park, police said. Rivera has not been charged in that case.

    Jose C. Rivera

In 2005, police interviewed three victims and released this description: The suspect is a 5-foot, 7-inch Latino man, between 25 and 30 years old, with a slim build. He has short black hair and a very short, neatly trimmed beard and mustache. One victim first described him as Middle Eastern.

    THE CHARGES

Rivera faces 16 charges in the three attacks. Fourteen are felonies. The charges are:

    • Five counts of kidnapping.

    • Four counts of rape.

    • Three counts of sexual battery.

    • Two counts of sex offense.

    • One count each of robbery with a dangerous weapon and breaking and entering.

    HIS RECORD

Records show Rivera has been jailed in Mecklenburg County at least eight times since 2004.

Deportation, with out the will and means to keep them out is futile.

  8. AJStrata says:

Thanks Stevevvs – I will use this to remind everyone the damage the hypochondriacs did by not passing the laws that would have sent this guy packing, no questions asked and no delays.

  9. Dc says:

No AJ, you are the ones calling for giving whomever is here illegally a free ticket to ride in the US as the way to deal with the problem of “who is here”. Meanwhile, they continue to flood into this country at will. Because the problem of who is already here is a “symptom” of the problem of illegal immigration..not the problem itself. And you aren’t going to solve the “problem” until you face it and deal with it.

I suppose you think registering 11 million people here (and growing by the min), is somehow “doable”???

As I recall AJ…the immigration reform act did not initially have provisions in it with penalties for employers who hire illegal alliens or any such enforcement provisions. Those were added later (and opposed to), as admendments…because people saw right through that shamensty bill for what it was. Let me offer you proof of what I’m saying: right now..states and localities all over the US are trying to enact those very same provisions they wanted in that bill..and YOUR side is objecting to it!! They want to stop them!! Why?????

Why AJ?? Why do they want to stop something they were for?

According to early reports…it’s working. Illegals are leaving those areas. So, your objection would be what???

Oh…I know….it’s because of the MONEY!!!! YOu want them to STAY to clean your house and pick your fruit and etc., etc., etc.,>>> right??? Is that it AJ?? Are we trying to make them “legal” so they can stay and work for us?? Is that what we are trying to do???

The focus of that initiative was entirely wrong. And its clear as day. That’s exactly why you are meeting the opposition you are. Maybe you should change the name of your bill to the economic labor impact act?

Lastly, I got news for you….there are plenty of plumbers, maids, laborers etc., who’ve been waiting patiently in la LONG ponderous, frustrating line to come here LEGALLY. My heart bleeds piss for those illegals who find that the line they have created (some 11 million long) is inconvenient.

  10. Dc says:

I will remind you AJ, that those provisions of the bill that would have allowed for deportation and border enforcment/security were opposed by the people who sponsored this bill and were not originally part of this bill…but were added later..ONLY by pressure from “US”.

Those are the things WE wanted and were put into the bill as amendments to try and salavage it.

And, we have already seen what one sided reform efforts (put the rest off for later) immigration bills can do. That’s how we ended up with 11 million (and counting) illegals here in the first place

  11. AJStrata says:

    DC,

I warned you to not prove my point! I have been all for strick conditions and financial reparations as well closing off access to citizenship to those in the guest worker program.

My views are on the record under the topic of ‘illegal immigration’, your wild fantasizing are irrelevant. And your tirade is why I now oppose the GOP on this issue and why I know the GOP will lose.

Be pure DC, and be alone.

  12. Dc says:

YES>.we need ENFORCEMENT and BORDER SECURITY. I suppose you are suggesting that this was the focus of your effort with the last shamensty bill all along. ROTFL.

  13. Dc says:

I’m not a republican AJ…I’m a registered democrat who lives in NYC.

  14. AJStrata says:

    DC,

    I feel your pain!

  15. Dc says:

You should be feeling my laughter at the idea that the last bill was somehow focused on border security and more enforcement agents

  16. AJStrata says:

    DC,

The last bill was not ‘focused on’ it included a lot in these areas. Somehow you miss the concept of a ‘comprehensive’ bill.

The end result is the hypochondriacs tanked ALL of it. There was NO new resources on the border – thanks again to they hyperventilating hypochondriacs.

Remember, “current law” was sufficient to do what was needed. At least that was the claim of the hypochondriacs!

  17. Terrye says:

    Dc:

The last bill that people like yourself killed did more to deal with the problems of illegal immigration than anything in the past.

Instead people such as yourself made impossible demands, weakened a war time president and ended up with nothing.

We have 19,000 miles of border and shoreline and nobody on the hardliner side of this issue has come up with anything rational in regards to closer scrutiny of the borders. They would rather have nothing than have virtual, they would rather have nothing than have a guest worker program, they would rather have nothing than protect the American people from terrorists..

So while you brag that harassing people in one area makes them go down the road a few miles to another area, it does nothing to deal with the terrorists. They do not come here to mow lawns, they come here to kill people.

A report came out the other day that Soros funded that big march back in 2006. He bought the Mexican flags etc, it was not spontaneous, it was planned to get people like you to react the way you did. and it worked, the Republicans hurt themselves badly.

  18. Terrye says:

    Steve:

No one is saying criminals should be allowed to run free and as far as I can tell the hardliners have made it easier for them to keep doing what they are doing because the hardliners support the status quo. They said all or nothing and nothing is what we got. Tancredo has not and will not do anything to keep people like this out and making some laundry lists of hispanics who commit crimes as if that is all they do is an insult to all hispanics. The whole point of Aj’s post is how easy is to come in from Canada.

But then again most Canadians are white.

Tell me, should a 90 year old woman who hires an illegal immigrant to mow her lawn go to jail? Should we be spending our time and resources on that?

  19. Terrye says:

    And Dc:

I am not a Republican either. I also do not think that every illegal should get a free ride. I do not think that our borders should be open. I do not think that criminals {foreign or otherwise} should be allowed to run free and I am getting tired of your side of the debate saying I do. Too many on the right have become so obsessive and narrow minded on this issue that they believe anyone and everyone who disagrees with them is an open border anarchist or something.

Well you do not get to tell me what I think and believe. That is not your job.

  20. Terrye says:

BTW, these people represent 47% of the ag labor. Everytime you put food in your mouth chances are some illegal helped put it there. There have been migrants coming into this country to work the fields for generations, back before some of those southwestern states were even states.

We have a very tight labor market right now and the idea that we do not need some of these people working here is just stupid, flat stupid.
