Baghdad Is Now Free Of al-Qaeda II

Published by at 5:13 pm under All General Discussions,Iraq

Oh my, it seems things really are not as bad in Baghdad as the SurrenderMedia and Surrendercrats keep fantasizing from their perches in DC and NY City:

Twilight brings traffic jams to the main shopping district of this once-affluent corner of Baghdad and hundreds of people stroll past well-stocked vegetable stands, bakeries and butcher shops.

To many in Amariyah, it seems little short of a miracle.

Just six months ago, this mostly Sunni neighborhood was one of the centers of al-Qaida in Iraq operations. The district in western Baghdad was hit by more than a dozen bombings and shootings some days. Few people dared to venture onto the streets.

On Tuesday, women shopped and men drank tea in sidewalk cafes. Occasionally, U.S. soldiers walking the streets were greeted with salaams and smiles.

What is happening here reflects similar trends across Baghdad and parts of Iraq, where civilian and U.S. military casualties have dropped sharply in the past two months. But the speed of the turnaround in places such as Amariyah has taken almost everyone _ including U.S. military forces in the area _ by surprise.

“The progress that we made is almost unbelievable,” said Capt. Brendan Gallagher, 29, of Columbia, Md., who serves with the Army’s 2nd Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division.

Are the Chicken Littles on the left going to opine that they wish things were not going so well now in Baghdad? Are the Surrendercrats going to continue to opine on how much they wish we left Iraq in a bloody shambles last spring when they were trying so hard to surrender to al-Qaeda. Will the left create fantasy reasons as to why peace is spreading in Iraq now that Iraqis have rose up against Bin Laden’s thugs, backed by American troops from the Surge (like Rep Obey did when he declared there were no more people for al-Qaeda to slaughter in Iraq)?

Is this the picture of a Vietnam Quagmire or the liberation of Paris from Nazi rule and oppression? Can the AP gloss over this story? Recall that when Europe was finally freed from Hitler’s thugs it showed all the scars of a devastating war (duh!). But it was distinct air of freedom that allowed the people to look past the debris and towards their new and brighter future.

LOL! Well they can try – and it will give all of us a good laugh when they do!

Update: A reader Kathie referred us to Instapundit, who has a note and a picture by Michael Yon from Iraq where Muslim and Christian Iraqis replace a cross on a church in Iraq, praising the new peace. How deep is the liberal denial? When will they get out of their pessismistic fantasy quagmire (or is that their quagmire of pessimistic fantasies)?

Update: Michael Yon now has this up at his site. Please consider donating to Michael’s cause since he is doing the work the news media SHOULD be doing.

Well if today is any hint then it’s the new story thats been popping up in my RSS reader all day from the usual suspects on the left.

Sees some BinLaden higher up type is claiming he was renditioned and tortured by a foreign government we let do our dirty work and finally buried alive to try to break him but their new hero swears he gave up nothing to the infidel.

So now we repeat the cycle of someone tells a tall tale and we have to spend time and resources running down everything on the planet known about this creep to discredit him until the next stawman pops up to repeat the cycle.

So convenient this happened to pop up from years in the past right after the staged AG hearings between the release from committee and the Senate floor vote.

Of course everything he says is single sourced by him so far, I haven’t seen any confirmation of details being brought forth so far.

I had tears in my eyes most of the day between Michael Yon’s picture and Sarkosy’s speech on the floor of the House……I wish an American Presidential candidate would talk about the greatness of this country as the President of France did today. I think you can read the speech on “Realclearpolitics” it was really something.

  6. Signs of change…

From Instapundit, who relays a letter and photo from Michael Yon of Muslims and Christians working together to restore a Cross to a Christian church in Baghdad: I photographed men and women, both Christians and Muslims, placing a cross atop…

  7. Al-Qaeda routed from Baghdad…

Even the New York Times can’t ignore it. But don’t you believe a word of it, because Harry Reid (D – Copperhead) says we’ve lost. Idiot. Captain Ed has more, as does the Strata-Sphere. Technorati tags: al-Qaeda, Harry Reid, copperheads,…
