America Is Not Interested In Liberal Fantasies About Iraq
I was laughing out loud when I read the news that fictional films about liberal fantasies regarding our war against Islamic terrorists and the war in Iraq (part of the broader war on terrorism) are tanking at the box office:
The wave of recent films set against the backdrop of war in Iraq and post-9/11 security has failed to win over film-goers keen to escape grim news headlines when they go to the movies, analysts say.
…
“Rendition,” a drama starring Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal about the CIA’s policy of outsourcing interrogation of terror suspects, has taken just under 10 million dollars at the box office, a disastrous return.
Oscar-winning director Paul Haggis’s latest film “In the Valley of Elah,” about a father investigating the death of his son in Iraq, earned favorable reviews but less than seven million dollars following its release in September.
Even the action-packed “The Kingdom,” starring Jamie Foxx and Jennifer Garner, fell well below its 70 million budget with around 47 million dollars in ticket sales.
The poor returns do not augur well for more war films due for release in North America later this month, notably the Robert Redford-directed drama “Lions for Lambs” and Brian De Palma’s hard-hitting “Redacted,” based on the real-life rape and murder of an Iraqi schoolgirl by US soldiers.
Gee, you mean America bashing is not popular in America? Stories about crimes by individuals in an effort to tar our brave men and women on the war front aren’t going to be successful? I would make a note to Surrendercrats (if I felt they could wake up from the delusions) that the constent drumbeat of failure in light of the clear signs of success is just not going to win over America. But thankfully I doubt they will take the advice, and we will see Iraq as the issue that ends up destroying the party.
Barak Obama tried a similar tact in dissing the Baby Boomer generation – the largest most active voting block in America. Talk about a dumb move. And everyone knows I find the GOP attacks on long term, undocumented workers another case of shooting yourself in both feet. Seems we have a very strange political phenomena in the country today where all the firebrands are getting angry at everyone else for not supporting their views. What a way to run a democracy!
Some people just do not realize that not everyone is like them. Really.
The nutroots are saying that America was never their intended market and that they will pick up income when they get released in Europe.
Merryl Streep was in both Lions for Lambs and Rendition anyone see a trend here.
