Licensing, in any profession, is primarily designed to protect those already in the profession. It always masquerades as being for the benefit of the users of that profession, but it never does. Any calls for the licensing of journalists needs to be stamped on, crushed, destroyed, and otherwise pounded into submission. It will always be for the benefit of those in the profession and used as a way to exclude others.

When it took a printing press or a TV broadcast facility, there was a barrier to entry. Now that it only takes a computer and an internet connection, the media would like to resurrect a barrier. That should not be allowed. You can bet your bippy ( ala Goldie Hawn) that after licensing will come exclusion.

AJ, you are a prolific and interesting (but hurried) writer. As a result of rushing to post your comments, word errors sneak in that the spell checker doesn’t catch.

You know what you mean and your readers know what you mean but the do notice.
