Tancredo Bows Out

Published by at 8:18 pm under 2008 Elections,All General Discussions

Apparently Tancredo’s positions on immigration issues are so widely held he has to drop out of the Presidential race to avoid a landslide win. Good riddance. America is going to stay out of the fringes for a while I suspect. Maybe Tancredo and Lamont can share their success stories with each other in retirement.

God bless you, Tom for the wonderful work you have done!

Thats funny AJ considering nearly all of the RNC candidates have adopted Tancredos position on border security. I won’t mention that it was a hammer DNC beat Bush over the head with during election 04 and onward (up until it became part of immigration debate…then they decided we didn’t need it and to suggest we did was being racist and etc.,).

    DC,

The border was never a contention. The fear of the long term immigrants becoming mainstream through background checks and back taxes was the issue the killed immigration reform.

Don’t pretend otherwise – I can see past the denial!

If that was out of the bill it would have passed….

The main opposition to that bill was not because of fear of immigrants becoming mainstream. It was that the bill had as it’s emphasis..dealing with those already here before they dealt with “how they got here. It had nothing in it that effectively dealt with the problem of how they got here and those that continue to come here illegally across our borders and otherwise…NOR did it have anything in it that could possibly guarantee, or give confidence to a lot of people, that whatever laws were changed or passed under it…would then be enforced. (that’s given that current Federal immigration laws which are sometimes explicit go entirely ignored at random by anybody who wants to with seeming impugnity). It doesn’t matter how many great laws you have….if everyone is free to ignore them. The argument has never been that current law didn’t need to be changed. (that was YOUR characterization of our argument). It was that current law was not being ENFORCED. What then…was the assurance that new law would be?

The problem was the bill had the wrong focus to it, the wrong language in it, and it made absolutely no attempt to deal with the problem of illegal “immigration” in any way. It was a bill to deal wiht illegal “immigrants” already here. People saw through it and voiced opposition to it. They tried to ram the bill through anyway. (which if you recall, speaking of denial….failed 3x).

I’ve watched 3 townhalls that McCain did..and every single one of them he was asked about this issue. He admits he made a mistake and misjudged the issue…as do others. And that we MUST secure our borders as best we can..and address the problem of how people are getting here illegally FIRST…before we can then talk about what to do with the 11 million who already made it here.
