Assassinated Hezbollah Terrorist Was Planning Large Terrorist Attack, Are Democrats Risking The Lives Of Our Military?

There are reports that the Hezbollah terrorist recently assassinated in Damascus was in the stages of planning a huge attack against other Arab states, probably with the assistance of the Iranians:

A Kuwaiti newspaper reports that Hizbullah terrorist chief Imad Mughniyeh, who was killed in a car-bomb attack in Damascus on Tuesday, was in the midst of planning major terrorist attacks in moderate Arab countries when he was killed.

Al-Watan reports that American intelligence had learned that Mughniyeh arrived in Damascus three days earlier with instructions from, and in coordination with, the Iranians. His objective was to meet with Hizbullah leaders and coordinate a mass attack, for which he was to receive help from Syrian intelligence.

Another Kuwaiti newspaper, Al-Siasa, reports that Mughniyeh took part, shortly before he was killed, in a secret meeting in the Iranian School in Damascus. Also participating in the meeting were Syrian Intelligence Chief Gen. Aisaf Shwackath, Hamas chief Khaled Mashaal, and an Islamic Jihad representative. On the agenda: planned attacks in Arab countries that refuse to take part in the coming Arab League summit in Damascus.

You know that if this is a valid story that the NSA surveillance played a huge role in getting the intelligence on this attack before it happened. What a grand day for the Democrats to tie the hands of our surveillance efforts overseas by not renewing the FISA changes that have kept this nation safe from attack ever since 9-11 (something most people would have said would be impossible at the time of 9-11). And if there is any doubt this is a valid story then one only needs to look at brand new sanctions on Syria coming out of the White House:

Meanwhile, US President George W. Bush has ordered stricter economic sanctions against Syria, the White House announced in an executive message to Congress.

The order to freeze the assets of people held responsible for actions that “undermine efforts to stabilize Iraq” came Wednesday, the day before Mughniyeh’s burial.

What we seem to have detected here is an Iranian/Syrian/Hezbollah/Islamic Jihad plot to attack neighboring nations – maybe even Iraq. The Surrendercrats desperately need some excuse to cut and run from Iraq and hand the place over to Bin Laden so he can wage his now-declared war on Israel.

Many Americans may not remember but the current, soon to expire, fixes to FISA were due to a FIS Court judge trying to expand the powers of the judiciary and requiring proof of threat and warrants to monitor just people overseas (forget about the original FISA-NSA dust up about how to handle leads on terrorist cells in the US detected by NSA monitoring of overseas threats). This kind of threat against our forces in Iraq was fair game prior to 9-11, but the idiots on the left are so damn paranoid (like anyone cares what the babble on about?) they have moved to make ALL surveillance illegal in case they may be caught up in the intel net (which is what happens every day in this country with warranted surveillance – innocent people get listened in on). Why should this nation cater to these paranoid delusions and let our military forces be at risk of an attack?

The liberal left is going for broke on this in an election year when they had a chance at the WH. It will soon become evident they have nothing but paranoid delusions and the WH has years of foiled attacks to show why we need to keep an eye on our enemies who have sworn to die trying to kill us in large numbers. And if you want more evidence the threat is real and we need our defenses at full capability just realize the nation is now on alert for attack – while Dems try and blind us to pending attacks:

The FBI put its terror squads on alert for attacks against Jewish targets after a Hezbollah leader died in a car bomb blast in Syria.

The FBI said Thursday that it had instructed its Joint Terrorism Task Forces in 101 communities across the United States to ask Jewish institutions to look out for signs of heightened dangers.

Hezbollah blamed Israel for the killing this week of Imad Mughniya, a terrorist believed responsible for hundreds of American, Israeli and Jewish deaths dating back to the 1980s.

Want to know how suicidally stupid Pelosi and liberal friends are – they also see the same intel reports as the President.

He also ordered Hezbollah cells activated in France, Italy, England, and other European centers according to French Intel. This was done at the end of Jan. Maps were found in a raid in France, 2 Syrians and 1 Lebanese were picked up with Diplomatic passports and the info and maps were found with the plans.

Didn’t stop the libs from blaming him last time out, even when it came out that the author of the policy was a member of the 9/11 Commission. (Can we say “Organizational Conflict of Interest,” boys and girls? I knew you could!)

    AJ,

MEXICO UPDATES this week — that should not be ignored (but are):

United States-Mexican border experiencing alarming rise in drug-human and terrorist smuggling
    *************************
The federal government acknowledges that the United States-Mexican border region has been experiencing an alarming rise in the level of criminal cartel activity, including drug and human smuggling, which has placed significant additional burdens on Federal, State, and local law enforcement agencies.

While the Southwest border hosts robust legal commercial activity, the border also is the site of violent criminal enterprises. These enterprises are carried out by organized criminal syndicates of Mexican/American cartels, gangs and international terrorist which include the smuggling of WMD’s, drugs, humans, weapons, and cash across the U.S.Mexico border.

The government reports that Mexican drug cartels and gangs operating along the Southwest border are more sophisticated and dangerous than any other organized criminal enterprise. The Mexican cartels, and the smuggling rings and gangs they leverage, weld substantial control over the routes into the United States and pose substantial challenges to U.S. law enforcement to secure the Southwest border. The cartels operate along the border with military grade weapons, technology and intelligence and their own respective paramilitary enforcers.

n addition, human smugglers coordinate with the drug cartels, paying a fee to use the cartels´ safe smuggling routes into the Unites States. There are also indications the cartels may be moving to diversify their criminal enterprises to include the increasingly lucrative human and terrorist smuggling trade. New Terrorist Bases South Of The Border

Moreover, global law enforcement has established that there is increasing coordination between Mexican drug cartels and Middle Eastern countries in drug and human smuggling networks which also involves U.S.-based gangs. The cartels use street and prison gangs located in the United States as their distribution networks. In the United States, the gang members operate as surrogates and enforcers for the cartels.

These criminal syndicates have unlimited money to buy the most advanced weapons and technology available. The cartels monitor the movements and communications of law enforcement and use that intelligence to enable the criminals to transport their assorted human and other cargo accordingly.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement investigations have revealed that aliens were smuggled from the Middle East to staging areas in Central and South America, before being smuggled illegally into the United States.

A bomb exploded on a street in central Mexico City near the security ministry on Friday, killing one person and wounding two.

No group claimed responsibility for the blast and there was no warning. The Mexican government is locked in a violent battle with drug gangs and has yet to catch left-wing rebels who planted small bombs at oil installations last year.

President Felipe Calderon has deployed the army in a year-old battle with Mexico’s powerful drug cartels. Police have made several arrests in the capital and seized suspected gang members found with large arsenals of guns and grenades.

Grim warnings left on six bodies found in Tijuana
    *********************************
In the latest grim twist to Mexico’s drug wars, at least six bodies have been left this week on the streets of a major border city bearing signs warning people against participating in an army program for informing on traffickers.

Many of the bodies found since Monday in Tijuana, across the border from San Diego, bore signs of torture. Several of the men were strangled. One victim was a police officer.

Index fingers of at least four victims were mutilated — a traditional signal that the dead man was an informant. Placards attached to all the bodies carried variations of a warning: “Continue informing. Yes, we are following through.”

Tourists touching down at Mexico City International Airport are hereby forewarned not to trip over the human heads that may be rolling around at your feet when you disembark. Four have been found in recent weeks in and around the terminal complex although their corresponding bodies have not yet been located.

Two of the heads reportedly once belonged to employees of a freight forwarding outfit, Jet Service. The other two, found by schoolchildren in a colony adjacent to the airport January 14th, have been identified as the heads of two mid-level operators for a Tepito drug gang. Tepito, a central city neighborhood infamous for its narco-bazaars, has been displaced as a Mexico City drug distribution center by the airport district, according to what a top-level cop tells the left daily La Jornada.

US. and Mexico Border violence continues
    ********************************
More Mexican law enforcement officers shot to death on the streets of Juárez Mexico. This violence is starting the new year off by making it at least 10 homicides in the first few days of February 2008, Juárez Mayor José Reyes Ferriz said.

Murders and kidnappings on both sides of the border have significantly increased in recent years. The violence along the U.S.-Mexican border has increased so dramatically, the United States Ambassador to Mexico, Tony Garza, during his term issued an unprecedented number of diplomatic notes to the Mexican Government and threat advisories to U.S. citizens traveling to Mexico.

Mexican drug cartels responsible for recent border violence have also cemented ties to street and prison gangs on the U.S. side. U.S. gangs retail drugs purchased from Mexican traffickers and often work as cartel surrogates or enforcers on U.S. soil. Intelligence suggests Los Zetas Exclusive They’re known as “Los Zetas have hired members of various gangs at different times including an El Paso gang Barrio Azteca, Mexican Mafia, Texas Syndicate, MS-13, and Hermanos Pistoleros Latinos to further their criminal endeavors. *******************************
Drug gang hit men killed three Mexican army informants on Tuesday and dumped them near a military training base close to the U.S. border, scrawling threats on the bodies in black ink, police said.

The three men, who police said gave the army regular tip-offs about drug gang activity in the Mexican city of Tijuana near San Diego, were strangled.

“The messages were written on the chests and on the foreheads. One of them read ‘You’re next, we’re going in’,” said a police spokesman who declined to be named.

Mexican authorities on Wednesday detained seven alleged members of the Sinaloa drug cartel they said were carrying grenades and high-powered rifles capable of penetrating bulletproof glass.
The men were captured before dawn in the capital, Mexico City’s Public Safety Department announced.

Local police pulled over their two sport utility vehicles, called for
backup and eventually uncovered weapons, bulletproof vests, ski masks, nearly a dozen cell phones and more than 12,000 pesos (US$1,130; ¤775) in cash, the department said in a statement.

Mexico gunmen target children in drug war from Jan. 17, 2008
    ********************************
Hit men from Mexico’s drug gangs are breaking traditional codes of honor by killing children in a chilling new chapter of a narcotics war that President Felipe Calderon is struggling to control.

In unprecedented attacks, gunmen killed a 3-year-old boy and 9-year-old girl and seriously wounded a 12-year-old girl in the city of Tijuana on the U.S. border this week as they targeted a senior local police officer.

Even hardened residents of Tijuana, where more than 300 people were killed in drug violence last year and severed heads were dumped on city streets, were shocked by photos of young Jose Luis Ortiz’s body riddled with bullets.

Yesterday I noted Eli Lake’s New York Sun story on Zbigniew Brzezinski’s trip to Damascus. In Damascus Brzezinski met with Assad and senior officials of his regime, whose security he seeks to promote. This at the same time that the world was reminded of the sancturary afforded by the Assad regime to terrorist mass murderer Imad Mugniyeh. On Wednesday Brzezinski issued a statement affirming that both Syria and the United States have a common desire to achieve stability in the region. Zbigniew Brzezinski is the kind of “realist” who can’t see what’s in front of his nose.

Today Lake returns to report that one of the national finance chairmen for Ms. Hillary’s presidential campaign — Hassan Nemazee — left Damascus last night after a visit there as part of the same RAND Corp. delegation that Brzezinski headed. The Clinton campaign offered Lake no comment on Nemazee’s Syrian visit last night. The New York Sun is more forthcoming in its editorial on the subject.

A Google News search on “Brzezinski Damascus” reveals again today that the Obama/Clinton delegation to Syria remains a deep secret confined to readers of the New York Sun, Power Line, and Martin Peretz.

  14. Terrye says:

It seems that Obama’s rhetoric is new, but not much else, Democrats making hush hush trips to Syria and Brzenzinski is working with Obama now:

So where’s the “realism” on the part of Mr. Brzezinski and other so-called foreign policy “realists,” who have accused President Bush of foreign policy malpractice for downgrading relations with Syria after the Syrians threw in with the Iranians to sabotage Iraq? Why are advisers to Senators Clinton and Obama in the Syrian capital at a time like this? Are they pressing for a separate peace with the regime? It is something on which Mr. Obama and Mrs. Clinton will be challenged in the coming campaign, we have little doubt. Where do they stand in respect of Syria — and why can’t they bring themselves to explain what their advisers are doing in the capital of one of the countries most hostile to America and Israel?

  15. Terrye says:

    Klimt:

My brother in law was in the DEA for years. He lived in Mexico City, one of his children was born there. He also worked in Guatemala and Columbia. He got the job right out of grad school because he had a double major in Spanish and Econ…that was 1971. He still works for the Justice Department. Back in the 70’s he would talk about mountain fortifications and disappearing Federal agents.

He liked the people, but said that drugs were just another commodity to them. He was very conservative, a real law and order guy, but surprised by saying that in the end the real changes would have to be made here. His attitude was that as long as there was a market for that stuff the corruption and the outlaws and all the bad stuff that goes with it would remain.

  16. Mark78 says:

I’d guess that Iran had these plans put in motion for any number of reasons.

To retaliate if the U.S. or Israel does attack their nuclear sites.
To initiate another war with Israel.
    To further destabilize Lebanon.
To try and get the insurgency in Iraq going strong again
    OR
    all of the above.

  17. Klimt says:

    Terrye,

I have no idea how to solve the problem besides legalization which is out of the question. What I do know is what were doing is not working. Mexico is losing control. You have police members and politicians being controlled by drug cartels. The drug cartels next goal is going to be control of the upper ranks of Mexican army. These cartels have unlimited money (estimates as high as $24 billion year). Honest police officers and politicians who refuse bribes are killed. When you are bribed you take the offer. The cartels are also brutal. In the last few weeks their tactics resemble al Qaeda’s — beheadings, disfigured and tortured bodies, bombs, assignations, and killing of children. The violence spills over the border. There have been links established between the cartels and ME terror organizations. The threat of DTO should be taken as serious as the WOT especially because they are showing signs of working together.

Not only that we need to ask our selves what is the collateral damage to our society from a constant flow of drugs into our society and $24 billion out into Mexico. This is all being ignored by the MSM, and even in Mexico for fear of being killed.

  18. owl says:

That sounds about right to me Terrye. All these years I have watched Texas fill up with Mexicans, I kept chanting to myself about how the USA was ignoring their neighbor. We needed to put into place some policies that could help the poor of that country overcome the corruption. Not only was it the compassionate thing to do but it was the smart thing for security.

Klint……..you can go over to Malkins and listen to her rail against the program/money being spent on Mexico’s southern border. Makes a person want to shake her to her teeth rattles. We did not need to make an enemy of Mexico. We need that real estate for our security. And no, I am not discounting anything you posted. These Pundits that have stirred this pot have a lot to answer for………….We really did need to work for realist solutions.

  19. Klimt says:

    Owl,

I never read her blog but I stopped by and quickly read what she had to say about the Merida Initiative. I don’t know if she understands the enormity of the drug cartels and how serious it has become. She only mentioned them briefly and only one or two of the comments mentioned them. I also listened to an audio clip of Rush that she linked to and he doesn’t seem understood the challenge either.

So, I disagree with her. I don’t find the package ludicrous. I think we need to view DTOs as serious as terror organizations. Review some of the links I posted above and you’ll find they are signs of them communicating and working together. When you view them from this perspective, you find this package to be modest. I don’t know how effective the initiative will be because we need to remember that the cartels are making $24 billion a year CASH. I’m afraid that by and by our military will have to go into Mexico to help out.
