Pakistan Orders Arrest Of Taliban/al-Qaeda Leader In Bhutto Assassination
This should be interesting, a Pakistani court has ordered the arrest of one of the most notorious Taliban/al-Qaeda leaders in Pakistan:
A Pakistani anti-terrorism court issued an arrest warrant Monday for a pro-Taliban commander operating in the country’s restive tribal areas, accusing him of masterminding the murder of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto, officials said. Authorities pin-pointed Baitullah Mehsud, leader of a Pakistani Taliban umbrella organization in South Waziristan, as the main suspect hours after Bhutto was assassinated Dec 27 at an election rally in Rawalpindi.
The commander, who has links with Al Qaeda and leads a 5,000-strong militia, has denied the allegation.
But in late January authorities arrested a would-be teenage bomber, Aitzaz Shah, along with his handler Sher Zaman in Dera Ismail Khan, a town in the North-West Frontier Province.
Aitzaz confessed to being next in line to attack Bhutto had she survived the Rawalpindi attack, authorities said. Both he and Zaman were linked to Mehsud’s group.
Authorities also have this guy on a surveillance tape taking credit for the assassination by his people. It will be an interesting test for the new government which must enforce the law, but has elements who wish to dial down confrontations with the more violent and radical militants in the country.
And the new government is being tested, as I predicted, by the Islamo Fascists who are going to try and use their appeasement positions to take control over major areas of Pakistan through bloody mayhem:
A look at suicide attacks in Pakistan since crucial parliamentary elections on Feb. 18:
_ March 11: Massive suicide bombs rip through a seven-story police headquarters and a house elsewhere in Lahore, killing at least 20 people and wounding more than 150.
_ March 4: Two suicide bombers blow themselves up at a Pakistan navy training college in Lahore, killing four college employees.
_ March 2: Suicide bomber attacks tribesmen discussing resistance to al-Qaida and the Taliban in Darra Adam Khel, killing at least 40.
Those are just the last three attacks in the last two weeks. The linked article has more.
This is what you get with appeasement. This is what America could taste if Obama get;s elected – a test of his spine by those who think massacring people in large quantities will spook a weak leader. Obama is failing his test of resolve in simply battling the Clintons – dumping members of his campaign the minute they become a bit too harsh. It is hard to see why al-Qaeda and others would not test Obama’s mettle early and often.
If the new government in Pakistan had promised swift and serious justice to those who kill innocents then I am not so sure the current killing spree would have been considered a viable opportunity by the militants. Peace through strength is not just a catchy bumper sticker – it is an element of human nature that is ignored at one’s own risk.
