Outlook on 2006
Lite and intermittent blogging for today (and maybe a few days) as I deal with work.
Mort Kondracke has an interesting article out on RealClearPolitics today showing the history of 2nd term, off year elections. Basically history says the dems should have some serious pick ups in the House and Senate. I have my doubts history will be any indicator of 2006 or 2008.
The democrats are being driven too hard and too much by their far left liberal base. For example, does anyone want to guess the impact of Cindy Sheehan calling for the dissolution of the state of Israel on the Jewish vote? Well, if the democrats don’t get out there and start challenging Cindy they find out for themselves. Right now the MSM is giving Sheehan the goddess treatment and she is saying what every die hard liberal believes without any spin or cover. In fact the MSM cannot control their support and defense of her. So it is serious when the MSM and Democrats allow someone to call for the abolishment of the Jewish state.
The democrats also want to surrender as soon as possible. Mort sites some polls showing 33 percent want to cut and run from Iraq. That is the democrat base. Those same polls show 55% (on average) do not like Bush’s handling of the war. But that includes a lot of pro Iraq war folks not liking the handling of the PR effort. 66% do not want to pull out all together. And when Iraq makes progress on a constitution and elections Bush will vindicated and we will all wonder why we even listened to the surreneder monkies.
I am still bullish on 2006 and see reps picking up 3 senate seats. Bush has stayed the course and done what he said he will do. He has brought a lot of change in a short time (due to 9-11) and that is unsettling. But when everyone stops holding their breath and looks around they can see the country is still intact, thriving and safe.
And in the end that is what counts.
