Surrendercrats Surrender On FISA Bill

Published by at 10:00 pm under All General Discussions,FISA-NSA

Boy, the spine sure has melted out of those Democrats! Was it really only just last week Presidential candidate Barack Obama promised to fight the telecom amnesty element of the new FISA legislation that gave Bush everything he wanted and more to protect America from terrorist attack? When promoting how the House Dems caved on the FISA legislation, Obama made a promise I knew then was as fake as all his positions on key issues of the day:

“Under this compromise legislation, an important tool in the fight against terrorism will continue, but the President’s illegal program of warrantless surveillance will be over. It restores FISA and existing criminal wiretap statutes as the exclusive means to conduct surveillance – making it clear that the President cannot circumvent the law and disregard the civil liberties of the American people. It also firmly re-establishes basic judicial oversight over all domestic surveillance in the future. It does, however, grant retroactive immunity, and I will work in the Senate to remove this provision so that we can seek full accountability for past offenses.

Emphasis mine. I and many leftwing bloggers have noted how this bill does nothing to change the adjustments Bush made to surveillance of terrorists overseas and their contacts here in the US. In fact, for the first time foreign nationals in the US are not being given the same rights as US citizens when terrorists contact them on US soil.

So will Obama succeed in his promise to rip telecom amnesty from the bill? Hell no, at least according to reporting out today on the Senate’s plans to roll over and let this bill pass:

Wisconsin Sen. Russ Feingold will not filibuster a compromise version of an electronic surveillance program although he thinks it will infringe on U.S. citizens’ civil liberties.

Feingold said he and other Senate opponents won’t try to stop the vote, but they “won’t allow it to pass quickly.”

OK, a slow and agonizing torture for the far left as they listen to all the liberal Senator’s strut and squawk, all the time knowing it will mean nothing as we establish common sense surveillance rules for the next 6 years. The far left is really going to enjoy having this embarrassment drawn out for hours I am sure! Slow motion surrender – what will those wacky dems think of next!

Update: yep, the far left is loving life over this one!

The dems are one BIG SHAM! They know the President is honest, decent and correct about everything he has done to protect this country including going into Iraq. They lie, lie, lie. The question is will the public believe them (the dems) again? They pretty much showed their hand in 2006, and “the people” fell for it, I hope they don’t do it again.

  2. Terrye says:

The truth is they are afraid of another attack too.

it’s cute that y’all are so happy about undermining the constitution. if these idiots also legalized torture you would probably…how did aj put it a while back…spew all over your monitors. i’m thankful we didn’t have “patriots” like you at lexington and concord…and hopeful that someday real leaders will be able correct the shameful course the country has spiraled into. in the meantime enjoy your lack of courage and vision.

  4. kathie says:

We will Norm, not to worry.

  5. WWS says:

haha – OBAMA is the one who’s going to let it go through! Admit it Norm, Obamessiah is the biggest political wimp since Jimmy Carter!!!

I don’t understand politics very well, but I do know that our Congress does respond to what the people want pretty well at times. I have seen many issues on both sides where the public got what it wanted after the side opposing it stopped fighting it. After all, they do want to get re-elected. I would expect that this can vary depending upon the vulnerability of each congressional position.

I do not know what the popular view on this issue is. I’ll bet that our congress does.

Why do the dems think the public would be worried about trial lawyers not getting lawsuits. That has always puzzled me. That was what held this bill up last time. Nobody wants to help lawyers get rich. Certainly not at the cost of our security. Just like nobody cared when the US attorneys’ contracts were not renewed. But the dems have to coddle their special interests who donate so generously to their party. The safety of the country and its citizens are so much collateral.

  8. Stix says:

Ah Yes,the Obammasiah has flopped again. We had his flop on Public Campaign money and now he let down the Left again with this bill. When arethe people drinkingthe cool aidefrom Obama going to realizehe is just another politician and is not above politics.

And this bill should never even been needed. We are going after Terrorists, and when in the world did we ever tie the hands of our defenses to give enemies access to our courts. I am truly afraid of what Obama and the rest ofthe Leftists can do to this country. They already heve given our enemies US Citizenship, what next???

    Awesome AJ

    “Slow Motion Surrender”

Pretty much sums up the Dems policy on:
FISA, Energy Independence, the Global War On Terror, Ethics, Public Financing of campaigns.

I could go on but have to go to work to be able to afford unnecesarily high gas prices.

  10. Dc says:

norm, the fact is that there is nobody who’s had their constitutional rights violated by this program. Congress knows that too. The fact that Dems would seek to exploit the emotions of leftnuts like yourself for their own financial and/or political gain is completely understandable.

What you are seeing is the rug being snatched up from under your feet norm. They never supported you. They never believed you. They used you to get what they wanted. The same way they have on Iraq.

  11. norm says:

dc…”the fact is that there is nobody who’s had their constitutional rights violated by this program”…the FACT is that you don’t know that…like most “facts” spewed forth on this website it is dubious at best…and now you probably never will. the sad fact is that cowards like you don’t care because you are so scared…the fear-mongers have accomplished their goal. they have counted on the fact that you are too simple to understand that civil liberties and national defense are not mutually exclusive…that in fact they are inexorably related…and the fact is that the terrorists you are so afraid of just won another huge victory. but cheer on…the fact is that none of you are bright enough to realize it.

  12. Terrye says:

    norm:

If anyone has had their civil rights violated by this bill, they can take their case to the courts and have it heard. And for you or any other leftie to be yammering about fear mongering when you have been promising all kinds of mayhem for years is ridiculous. People like you are afraid of the guy next door who is a registered Republican. You are afraid that if a terrorist in Yemen talks to a terrorist in Iraq and we monitor the call, that somehow that translates into your phone being bugged. you do not know what you are talking about. The Democrats fed you a line of shit so that you would vote for them and now that they got what they wanted out of you, they abandoned you. sucker!

  13. Dc says:

Who’s civil liberties have been violated norm. Name them. Come on. Who’s life and privacy was destroyed by this program? (Names).

It’s a secret program dumbass. You aren’t supposed to know who they are interested in. It’s a complete total baseless lie that there is no oversight in the program. And, in case it’s not painfully clear to you now….the fans have been flamed by democrats to rile you and use you for your money/support and votes for other dumbass candidates that otherwise would have a tough time getting elected to take the trash out. The same democrats that VOTED for the program, and have KNOWN about it all along.

    You’ve been had.

And just who is peddling fear here norm? That would be “you”. That because you dont’ “know” or understand the program..we should fear that it could be used to somehow violate some constitutional right of yours. That we should seek to stop it at once and expose it to keep anyone from potentially being harmed.

Everytime someone like you opens their mouth the terroists win.

  14. VinceP1974 says:

The way that this violates the Constitution is that there is no Constitutional mandate that the Executive’s military authority to protect the country be under the supervision of the courts.

By adding Court supervision, the President’s authority is being unconstitutionally restricted.

  15. Dc says:

Don’t even try and get a leftnut to acknowledge executive “anything”…unless there is a nutbag in the office. The POTUS has no constitutional power…as far as they are concerned. And if in fact the POTUS direct things based on congressional legislative authorization…that’s treason, as well as illegal, as well as, unconstitutional, as well as “dictatorship”, imperilism, etc.

Clinton/Reno fired every single known republican attorney working at the justice dept and hired only those who were aligned with the motivations, etc., of the president. That’s ok…of course.

Gonzales FAR less than that and it’s an unprecidented scandal.

    Go figure.

  16. Dc says:

Ah…and today….normnuts, the FISA bill passes cloture 80 to 15 to limit debate on the bill and get it passed. (Yes= 32 demorats, and 48 republicans) with 15 nays.

I’ll say it again…YOU HAVE BEEN HAD norm.
