McCain’s Enemies Left And Right

Published by at 8:30 am under 2008 Elections

Marc Ambinder and I agree that the far left and far right have gone too far in their attacks on McCain (which folds into my post below on how the fringes are ruining America).

Ben Smith the author of the article responded to the Powerline guys after their post on his article.

    Ben Smith responds:

Noticed your item, and I basically agree with its gist — as my headline said, I was writing about stuff coming from the left.

But the origin of all the “collaborator” calumny is basically on the right, and if you poke around, it’s still active. Ted Sampley is obviously sort of the leader, but there’s a real (if utterly fringe) group out there that thinks McCain collaborated with the Vietnamese communists and covered up the continuing presence of POWs in Vietnam. The people on the left are drawing from his “research.”

Yes, people on both extremes have just gone off the deep end. They can not even be sane anymore. It is like Buchanan’s article about how Winston Churchill was the bad guy, not Hitler. Meanwhile Buchanan is also out there saying that more and more people agree with him on immigration. Or Ron Paul’s neo nazi connections. Crazies, all of them.

McCain endured a lot. That does not mean people have to vote for him, but he does not deserve to be humiliated either.

“inartful” now ranks up there with “inoperative”

“This is the operative statement. The others are inoperative.”

What could be next ? “I’m not a crook”
