IQ tests are all a bit of a joke anyway. People are good at what they are interested in, or have experience with, and IQ tests only cover a miniscule fraction of problem-solving or pattern recognition questions. Anyone who attaches great importance to IQ tests couldn’t possibly have a high IQ or they are liars. There’s no alternatives.

Before you go off pretending you have a clue about genetics you better realize there are a lot of BS studies out there special made for the naive.

There are no major genetic differences between Africans and Europeans other than skin pigmentation and a few other well known items (mostly related to diseases). The rest is cultural and those traits that were preferred in the culture. Some cultures are better athletes, etc because those traits have been selected over generations.

But they are subtle emphasis on generic aspects of the genome. These are not genetic ‘differences’, purely speaking. The propensity for sickle cell anemia in blacks is a genetic difference. IQ levels are not because the potential is the same across the races. Some just exercise that potential more than others.

Will Smith is *not* appropriate at all, because Will Smith (unlike Obama) has actually DONE SOMETHING to earn his fame. Now I haven’t seen Hancock, and haven’t cared for his recent work, but he’s got some real solid acting credentials. (Gotta love the Men in Black duo)

Why Britney and Paris? Because all they ever did to get famous was to pose in front of cameras repeatedly and mouth vacuous platitutdes. (Okay, Britney cut all her hair off) Just like Obama.

Name one significant thing that (fill in the blank – Britney, Paris, Obama) has actually done besides pose. No one can.

The median IQ level for a black in the United States is a full standard deviation below that of a white American. That is why whites, generally speaking, will always succeed more than blacks. Ashkenazi Jews have the highest median IQ level of any ethny and that, not some Jewish conspiracy, explains their overrepresentation at elite levels

All of that is just urban myth based on non-replicated (not very scientific scientific) studies. Did you hear the one about Charlton Heston wearing a digital watch in Ben Hur?

Brittney and Paris haven’t been “top world wide celebrities” in.. what 3 or 4 years now. They’ve been surpassed by dozens of names since then.

So, what made the McCain explicity pick *those two* as the images for this commercial?

Why not, I don’t know – Will Smith, who’s often called the biggest movie star in the world? Why not Christian Bale, whose movie just made $300M in two weeks? Why not the last American Idol winner? Why not Jay-Z? Why not Tom Hanks, or Oprah, or Beyonce, or Angelina Jolie?

Why did they pick those two single, promiscuous, white females for this spot, when they had such a wide selection to choose from?

I did not see it that way because Britney/Paris were still photos at the beginning of the ad, and clearly symbolic of vacuous celebrity, something that, for example, George Clooney or Brangelina do NOT symbolize: they are celebrities of real substance, whether you agree with them or not. (Angelina is publicly still undecided voter)

I just think McCain’s campaign couldn’t come up with an instantly recognizable vacuous male celebrity for what was an ad designed to get lots of free cable news air time (success), change the dialog away from Obama’s foreign trip (success), and try to build on the real uncertainty many voters have about Obama as Commander-in-Chief.

The voters who still harbor that ‘black man/white woman’ fear were never going to vote for Obama anyway because Obama is the child of that fear made real.

Criticism and/or satire on Obama is not always about race.

postscript: Based on the personal ad that Bob Herbert ran in New York magazine in 1992 (I am sure I have a copy of it somewhere), I am surprised he can still find any memory of outrage over the ‘black man/white woman’ fear he claims to see everywhere in his Aug 1 op-ed. Maybe he should go visit Kofi Annan for counsel on how to get over it…

Gee, I wonder why, if you have a black man running for high public office — say, Barack Obama or Harold Ford — the opposition feels compelled to run low-life political ads featuring tacky, sexually provocative white women who have no connection whatsoever to the black male candidates.

He goes on the say the white female, without undies, scares whitey into not voting for a black man.

Personally, given our mixed race society this attempt to create racism out of thin air just makes those making the claims look stupid. Especially to the young voters who don’t see race at all anymore.

Identity politics is on the rise. Hispanics will eventually be as racially aware as black America (currently at 90% for black Obama 1% for white McCain). Obama’s brilliant success in the primaries is largely due to race. Blacks vote overwhelmingly for him due to racial solidarity and hatred of whites. White liberals also vote for him because he is black and they seem to hate white middle America. If he were white would there be such a cult of personality around him?

Just this past week there were reports in the media about Asians being “fed up” being ignored. They are now making greater efforts at ethnically motivated lobbying.

Ethnocentric politics is clearly the future. Those who don’t join in will lose out.
