Salute To An Honorable Man
The Anchoress passed this story to me, and I pass it on to all of you. It is the story of a young volunteer chaplain who started his active duty on the beaches of Normandy.
“Here he was, almost fresh out of seminary, and this was his first duty station?†said an incredulous Rev. Monsignor John FitzGerald of the Archdiocese Of Baltimore, addressing yesterday’s gathering. “That’s the deep end of the pool. Boys were dying on his left, being maimed for life on his right.
“He survived, but not all of them did. He had to write a lot of letters home. No seminary teaches how to do that.â€
As I read this great tribute, I could not help but think of another young man who I believe wanted to go into the seminary: Casey Sheehan.
From what little we have heard about Casey beyond his mothers anguished lashing out at Bush is he was very similar to this great person.
Thanks Anchoress – I did enjoy the story!
