Are We Better Off Than 2002?

Published by at 9:26 pm under 2008 Elections,All General Discussions,Iraq

In my mind we are much better off than we were one year after 9-11. At this time back in 2002, as we prepared to challenge Saddam and his ties to al-Qaeda (they existed through Ayman Zawahiri before and after 9-11), we were a nation bracing for the next strike from al-Qaeda. Osama Bin Laden and al-Qaeda were considered universally the future of Islam, and a possible world-wide war faced us.

But another group of people deserve to answer that question as well. We need to ask the Iraqis (not the liberals here or the terrorists in Iraq) if they are better off – because it is for them we sacrificed so much these 5 years. And we need to ask those who fought to protect us as well. We even have their answers for anyone brave enough to listen and open-minded enough to learn:

Are we better off since 9-11? Since Iraq experienced both The Awakening and The Surge one big thing has changed that has made this world completely different, and much more promising, than it was in 2002. And that change is the fact, today, al-Qaeda is not the future of Islam to the Arab Muslims of Iraq – or to vast majorities of them in the Middle East. Today al-Qaeda is the ENEMY of Islam to these people. That is change you can be proud of, because it has brought us a much brighter future than defeat (at any cost) would have.

Thank you for posting this great video A J. I agree completely with your statement, which I have reproduced above. In the next two months we need to muster all the evidence we can which supports it.

I can actually be a little serious from time to time, Aj… As a Marine and 14+ years flying airplanes in Saudi Arabia I can tell you this if you want to understand Arabs and Muslims minds… Take the time to read “The Foreigner’s Gift” … Fouad Ajami

When I would have gentle discussions with my first officers [Saudis and Muslims 100%] and back them into a logical hole, the inevitable endgame for them was this statement that I have heard a hundred times… “It’s in the Koran.” End of story. I was there for the money, honey… You think I am going to press the argument further… or do I look stupid? [Don’t answer that]

btw, the conclusions in this book may startle you.

Remember that there are many Muslims out there fighting by our side for a better future for their children. We would not be where we are without the courage of our military, but also we would be nowhere with these people. My example is an Afghan man called “Rambo” who grabbed a bomber and pulled him out of his explosive laden truck outside camp Phoenix near Kabul. Many lives were saved. This is courage. This is what we have been seeing. Remember this allies. These are people our liberal media are eager to forget.
