23,000 Strong in Fairfax, VA!

Caveat: I’m a techie type not a writer, so bear with me.

DJStrata and I have just returned from an event I’ll never forget.  Just to set the record straight, there was no rock band. There was a country guitarist without his normal bandmates, who asked us to clap since he didn’t have his drummer with him. He sang some originals as well as some classic country songs from Johnny Cash and others. He was below eye level for most of the audience so I can’t say he was a big draw, although a nice guy and good guitarist (but AJStrata is better!)

The crowd was a mix of women, men, young people (DJ included), older people, from all walks of life. Everyone was excited, mostly about Sarah, but also for John McCain. A transplanted Texas woman, now living in Virginia, standing next to me (for 4 hours) really enjoyed asking everyone around her what they thought of Sarah Palin. She was definitely a draw today! She asked the young men from the George Mason College Republicans standing next to her, as well as DJ and I. While Sarah was the excitement generator at this rally, I kept hearing how much everyone admired John for his choice of Sarah for VP.

We had several of our own local VA politicians speak, with our own Rep. Tom Davis acting as emcee. For me our surprise visitor, Fred Thompson, was so exciting. He gave a fabulous speech at the convention last week and didn’t disappoint today.

The best part of being so close to the stage was watching the expressions on the faces of the speakers and especially the candidates when they looked at that enormous crowd of 20,000 plus in awe. Each and every one of the speakers came up to the podium and said, “Wow!”

I’ll let DJStrata blog the speeches, she’s better at that than I. For me, I got to see our next President and Vice President up close and personal and I couldn’t be more convinced that they are the best choice for our country!!

Thanks for the report, LJ! Since we couldn’t be there it is great to have you and DJ tells us what REALLY went on!

Off topic, but have you seen how the media, including Fox to some extent, is trying to downplay McCain’s surge in very subtle ways, imho? For example, twisting the info (and themselves) into knots to call the polls “tied”. Say what?!!!

Sounds like a great time was had by all, thanks.

Hope everyone has seen Mat Damon’s comments. It’s interesting that he talks about Palin and her inexperience and how that scares him. It’s also interesting that he does NOT talk about Obama and his inexperience and how that should scare him. She’s obviously further from the Presidency than he is.

Redteam, I have seen those comments. And I agree. How can you be scared of Palin “inexperience” when Obama has even less experience? That is the whole point.

Have been looking at the crowd size reports around the web.

As usual the left siders and MSM are using terminology to minimize it like ‘thousands attended’ , ‘more than 10,000’ etc.

True in what they said but not really telling the story.

Yup they don’t need a big local rock band to draw a crowd of mainly high school kids (who can’t vote) and young college crowd like portland,or for Obama.

Will be interesting to see what happens when they split on the campaign trail to see what their numbers hold at for each of them.

From what I am reading today they are revising the sked for at least the near future to do all joint stuff.

My son is a grad student at gmu. He attended the rally yesterday, and said it was incredible-he’d never seen anything like it! While googling for pix of the event, I stumbled across this blog, and LOVE IT! I want to thank you for such an intelligent, articulate, well writtten, well documented and relevant site. I will be checking in often! Keep up the great work. GO MCCAIN-PALIN!!!!!!!!

  9. […] won the debate by large margins?  Not likely, he wasn’t the main draw. Palin can bring out 23,000 – 60,000 supportive Americans just by coming to town. Biden has no such drawing power. Yes, a lot […]
