Gwen Ifill Needs To Decide: Book Royalties Or Moderator Chair

PBS and the presidential debate commission have a real disaster on their hands. Gwen Ifill, the liberal leaning, Obama supporting, supposed debate moderator has one more conflict of interest which cannot be swept under the carpet: she stands to gain vast riches from her book on Obama if Biden wins the debate tomorrow night. Geez, might as well have lobbyists moderate. Ifil has to chose: give up ALL the book royalties or give up the moderator chair. Our nation’s political process is more important than one person’s ego or wallet.

BTW, it would benefit Palin to have Ifil stay in the chair. All she would have to do to destroy Ifil is continue to ponder “Gwen, will that topic be in your book about Obama coming out on Inauguration day”? But it would ruin the opportunity for America to get a clear and unfettered measure of the candidates.

Yeah! I mean, it’s not like everybody knew about the book before both campaigns agreed on the moderators or anything!

    Oh, wait – they did.

I know you’re all upset that McCain is running a completely incompetent campaign – but c’mon, he can’t even be bothered to vet his own VP, let alone a debate moderator. Give him a break – after all, he was a POW, in case you haven’t heard.

Breschau, once again, you — are — an — IDIOT. What McCain did or did not know is totally immaterial here. The topic here is a moderator who is known to have a financial incentive to try to sink one of the two candidates she is moderating. It doesn’t matter whether McCain knew about this or not — the onus is on the moderator either to cancel the contract with her publisher or to recuse herself from the debate.

    Bresch,

    • Palin was adequately vetted. Her strengths terrify the surprised liberal base.

    • When will Obama be vetted and face hard questions?

  4. WWS says:

kind of a shame to see bresch hitting the bottle again.

Who cares about Ifill. It’s as good as we’re gonna get.

Doing the vetting the Presidential Debate Commission did not do.

If they do not replace her their credibility is shot.

Well, I have to admit that I am impressed by her ability to read every single newspaper in existence.

(A little less impressed with her inability to name a specific paper she reads, or to name a single Supreme Court case outside of Roe v. Wade.)

Oh – and she can see Russia from her house! Woo! Go Bible Spice, go!

Well, some one is lying. It couldn’t be PBS or the Wash-Post. Nah, why would they.

“The host of PBS'”Washington Week” and senior correspondent on “The NewsHour” said she did not tell the Commission on Presidential Debates about the book. The commission had no immediate comment when contacted by The Associated Press. A spokeswoman for John McCain’s campaign did not immediately return phone and e-mail messages.” – http://apnews.myway.com/article/20081002/D93I484G3.html

    Go back to your Kool-aid.

So who won the bet on how long it would take for breschau to come back???!!

It is not up to the campaigns to pick a moderator for the debates. That is the whole point of the Presidential Debate Commission. They are the ones who fell down on the job and didn’t do their research.

    Breschau,

Apparently Palin reads enough news papers and other news outlets to not want to have to list them all. Who cares anyways. Oh no she doesn’t read the Chicago Tribune….crap guess she just can’t be VP. Oh wait, she doesn’t read the Daily Press (VA Beach)….she is just so uninformed for her job. Come on, grow up and worry about how she will deal with issues when she has the actual facts in front of her rather than the media bullshit.
