Terrorists After Our Children
MAJOR UPDATE:
This is looking more and more serious with the discovery of a Improvised Explosive Device (yep, an IED) at UCLA today.
A calm and quiet Westwood was briefly disrupted Friday afternoon when the Los Angeles Police Department bomb squad inspected and detonated an explosive device found within the Midvale Plaza apartment complex on the 500 block of Midvale Avenue.
After responding to a call made at 11:13 a.m., the bomb squad arrived at 527 Midvale Ave. to find “an improvised explosive device” in the building’s open-air courtyard, said Grace Brady, a spokeswoman for the LAPD.
This better be hitting the news now.
END UPDATE
I have not posted on the Oklahoma University suicide bomber case (see Michelle’s usual awesome round up) simply because it was very plausibly a terrorist attack. Sorry if that does not raise my eyebrows – but one lone soul being brain washed into becoming a suicide bomber is not a surprise. But this could mean something totally different [hat tip: Drudge]:
Three explosive devices found in a courtyard between two Georgia Tech dormitories on the East Campus Monday morning were part of a “terrorist act,” an Atlanta police official said.
One of the devices exploded, injuring the custodian who found them inside a plastic bag. Two others were detonated by a bomb squad.
The custodian suffered ringing to the ears and was treated at a local hospital. The events led to a temporary evacuation Monday morning.
“It is a terrorist act at this point and depending on the outcome of the investigation it potentially could become a federal violation as well,” said Major C.W. Moss of the Atlanta Police Department.
We may now be seeing a pattern of new Al Qaeda plot: attacking colleges. I cannot stress strongly enough that this is pure speculation on my part, and not for anyone to take this as anything more than speculation.
I would suggest to college students, like my oldest daughter, to stay vigilant and report suspicious activities and packages. False alarms in this situation are not going to be a big concern if they can stop a pending attack.
I don’t like being wrong, but I am more than willing to be wrong this time.
Michelle is fast! No doubt about it. Here is her post on this, which will grow I am sure.
[…] AJ Strata is looking at whether or not AlQ is “after our children,” and he is marvelling, like me, at how fast Michelle Malkin is. Am I the only one who remembers this – help me out, here – I seem to recall hearing/reading right after 9/11 that AlQ said they wanted to target our kids in their schools. Anyone else remember that? […]
I believe the bomb at UCLA was found Friday, not today. I’m trying to track that down now.
Hoping to be Proven Wrong
An airplane? Mass-transit? Monuments? With federal agents and police departments all atwitter, why bother with a hard mission against a hard target?
Just a thought.
Connecting Dots: Oklahoma Univesity, Georgia Tech.
Is there an underlying pattern to be gleamed from these two incidents or are they just merely two isolated instances? From what has been pieced together thus far, there is no underlying nexus linking these seemingly individual incidents, as yet. Here…
“Terrorists After Our Childrenâ€
sorry,AJ.
college students are not “children”.
at least not if they manage to graduate able to think.
if a movement back towards rationality and away from
“be a revolutionary hero/suicide bomber in your spare time”
doesn’t set in soon “the children” themselves
will be blowing each other up.
Exhibit A: Mr Hinrichs II at OU.
these observations might be some food for thought:

Excerpt:
“The custodian found the three devices about 9 a.m. in a plastic-type garbage bag, Moss said. When he picked up the bag, one exploded, as it was designed to do when handled. The explosives were made up of chemicals placed inside plastic bottles and could have seriously injured someone, officials said. Numerous agencies were on the Georgia Tech campus to search for suspects.
“It will be a joint investigation between the Atlanta Police Department, the Georgia Tech Police Department, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, the FBI and the Joint Terrorism Task Force. Every possible lead will be followed,” said Major Moss.”
Bombs discovered at Georgia Tech in Atlanta
Michelle Malkin provides coverage of more discoveries of bomb materials, in Atlanta, and even in Gwinnett County, Georgia, and at the UCLA in California.
Hello. Here’s an update on this case. There has been arrest made in teh GA Tech bombing, the suspect’s name has not been released (he has confessed), but police now believe that it was a prank and not a terrorist attack. I hope that it’s true (just a prank)….but we never know. I guess we have to wait until further developments.
salaam
MuslimRealist,
Thanks ever much for the update. I hope as you do it is simply a prank.
