People with pneumonic plague don’t feel sick until it is too late. The body doesn’t react to the germ until it is too late, so they continue to be out and about infecting other people instead of at home in bed.

You can catch this from other people, not fleas.

Well aware of the plague’s natural forms. But 40 people in one week is not a naturally occurring outbreak – even of some of the nastiest bugs out there.

Plague lives naturally in that region (and many others including the Western US, a few people a year come down with it in the US). Plague can be cured with very simple antibiotics, it is a very weak bacteria. Anyone working with it would have had an ample supply of said antibiotics on hand. I believe this was a natural outbreak (if it even happened at all).

The Sun broke this story in the UK and they aren’t the most reliable source. They are a tabloid like The Globe or The National Enquirer in the US.
