Daschle Hid Tax Debt, Was He Trying To Be Like Rep Rangel (D)?

Published by at 11:25 am under All General Discussions

No wonder Democrat politicians like to raise taxes on Americans – they fail to pay taxes themselves so why would they care? Today’s revelation is that Tom Daschle, former Senate Majority Leader and nominee for a cabinet position, tried to sneak by paying over $100,000 in taxes he owed (which is more than most people make in a year). I mean, how else can anyone explain the fact he knew for a year he had to pay the taxes and failed to pay?

President Obama’s choice for health secretary, Tom Daschle, was aware as early as last June that he might have to pay back taxes for the use of a car and driver provided by a private equity firm, but did not inform the Obama transition team until weeks after Mr. Obama named him to the health secretary’s post, senior administration officials said Saturday.

That is a premeditated criminal act. This was no last minute realization of a screwed up return. This was a deliberate act of not paying and trying to hide it. The only reason for this kind of act is to try to NEVER pay them. Sort reminds me of another tax cheating Democrat politician – who now has a law named after him:

Rep. Carter introduced a bill Wednesday to eliminate all IRS penalties and interest for paying taxes past due.

The legislation calls for the creation of what he calls the, “Rangel Rule,” — drawing attention to the recent legal issues of House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Charlie Rangel, D-N.Y., enabling citizens who fail to pay taxes on time to do so later with no additional fees.

Rangel, who writes the country’s tax policies, acknowledged last fall that he failed to pay thousands in real estate taxes for rental income he earned from a property in the Dominican Republic.

As of September 2008 the Harlem Democrat reportedly paid back more than $10,000 in taxes but that did not include any IRS penalties.

Now we know why so many Democrats love to raise taxes – on everyone else.

This is the letter I sent to the Repub senators:

I am writing in a state of near despair asking you to seriously consider rejecting Tom Daschle’s appointment to Secretary of Health and Human Services. His supposed failure (more likely dodge) to pay taxes is egregious and a slap to all hard working American’s who struggle to pay their taxes. I would like to relate a personal story.

Fifteen years ago, my husband owned his own business. We employed an accountant to do the books. The accountant died of a brain tumor, but before his condition was diagnosed, he incorrectly figured the payroll taxes we had to pay. The mistake was $8000. Long after the accountant died (three years) and while we were innocently unaware of this mistake, the IRS contacted us – the mistake was now upwards of $40000 with penalties and interest. Being a struggling young business, it took us years to pay this off and throughout the ordeal – the IRS threatened, issuing liens and garnishing 50% of my wages. We ultimately ended up paying about $70000, the interest never stopped piling up. We lost the business (which employed 5 people), had to take out a home equity loan to help meet their demands. How I would have enjoyed Timothy Geithner’s treatment.

It is UNFAIR. IT IS EXCLUSIONARY. IT IS ELITIST. IT SMACKS OF ROYALTY. You all disgust me. Washington disgusts me. I am beginning to feel like the original colonists felt. I read that Tom Daschle is “well liked by his former colleagues”. I do not care how much any of you senators LIKE Tom Daschle. He would never be paying these taxes if he didn’t want this job so much. We would have never, ever, known. No threats from the IRS to him, No tax liens, no Armageddon to his livelihood. THIS IS A DOUBLE STANDARD. What would the democrats do if this was a BUSH appointee?

You are creating a monster. Beware of your public. If the democrats are going to hold power with no limitations – you might as well lose your seat and be replaced by a democrat, or maybe a Republican who isn’t part of your club.

    Please reject TOM DASCHLE’S appointment.

I’ve linked to your post from Obama Picks Sen. Tom Daschle to become Secretary of Health and Human Services … which is a growing list of articles on Daschle.

Are there any politicians that are not crooks?

Every one that gets nominated ‘has to come clean’ and pay their back taxes before they can get approved. Does that mean that the ones that don’t get nominated, don’t have to come clean and pay their back taxes?
Is this just something the people that make the laws know they don’t have to obey? Why don’t they have to pay ‘penalties’? I had a legitimate deduction ‘disallowed’ a few years ago, it was about 2000, the penalties and interest ran another 2000. why did I have to pay a penalty and he doesn’t. At least I put it on the form and they disallowed it. he didn’t even put his on the form. He was trying to avoid it totally. He’s a crook.

    DASCHLE WITHDRAWS FROM THE APPOINTMENT

just thought I would get the headline made up ahead of time. it’s only a matter of time before he gets cut adrift so he will save himself the ’embarrassment’ and withdraw himself.

Not because he has any ethics, etc, just that he doesn’t want the ultimate embarrassment.

it’s only a matter of time.
