Stimulus Package Is Full Of BS Pork

I love frisbees. I played ultimate frisbee when I was young, and the family still loves playing frisbee golf. But for the life of me I cannot see the frisbee saving the American economy.

Las Vegas, which by some accounts already glitters, wants $2 million for neon signs.

Boynton Beach, Fla., is looking for $4.5 million for an “eco park” featuring butterfly gardens and gopher tortoises.

And Chula Vista, Calif., would like $500,000 to create a place for dogs to run off the leash.

Austin, Texas, could use $886,000 to build a 36-hole “disc golf” course, for frisbee tossing. It would be “environmentally and financially sustainable.”

This stimulus package is packed with BS Pork and deserves to be thrown out. We need to shore up the mortgage situation, stabilize banks and free up money to the consumers so they can start driving the economy upward again. Anything else is off target.

Screw all this. Send the money to the people and let THEM spend it as needed. No more pet projects for states that need to operate on their own budgets and make decisions on what is a priority. There is no way I can support this garbage. Dump it and start over.

Major Update: The Democrats are starting to see the writing on the wall and learning they need to trim the pork and fat off their boondoggle bill:

Senate Democratic leaders conceded yesterday that they do not have the votes to pass the stimulus bill as currently written and said that to gain bipartisan support, they will seek to cut provisions that would not provide an immediate boost to the economy.

That is what we call VICTORY! The GOP is now on the right path, and shows how a minority can work to correct the majority, when public opinion is behind the minority (please don’t misunderestimate that last bit, as we noted with Iraq and The Surge).

I don’t have a lot of confidence that this bill will be much different. We will spend $900 billion dollars on pork. Then we will talk about the consequences. Order a group to talk to the American people how we are all in it together and need to make shared sacrifices. That means that those who earn a living will have to give up a larger and larger portion of what they earn. I’m feeling sick!
