The Audacity of Smoke (& Mirrors)

Smoke & Mirrors

President Obama is playing America (and the fawning liberal media) for fools. He comes out in front of Congress and the nation claiming he will walk on water fiscally and cut a history shattering $1.75 TRILLION deficit in half by the end of his first term.

In actuality he his playing a shell game, right out in the open like a truly professional con man does. What his administration is doing is packing the out year budget numbers with things not actually in anyone’s plans nor in any budget so that when they delete them later they can appear to be cutting the deficits.

REPORTER: Okay. But let me ask, is it transparent to say that tax increases are part of savings? And is it transparent to say that we’re going to be saving that much from Iraq, when nobody expects that 10 years out we would be spending what we’re spending today in Iraq? Even the previous administration agreed to get out of Iraq by 2012…

GIBBS: Well, I mean, if we’re not spending the money and the money doesn’t go out the door and the money doesn’t increase the deficit, and the deficit decreases by some amount, ultimately getting you to the president’s goal of halving a 1.2 (trillion dollar) to $1.3 trillion deficit in his first four years in office.

They are placing fictional costs in the out years that will disappear when those budgets come up for discussion – and viola! Instant deficit cutting.  This is pure BS. You are not ‘cutting’ the deficit when you allow tax cuts to sunset themselves. If Obama and Congress DID NOTHING this would happen. So they are claiming credit for doing nothing with a law passed before Obama was even in the Senate.

Gee, you fooled me on that one Barry!

And NO ONE expects the Iraq Surge to last a decade (Earth to Dems – we won!), and it is not funded for a decade in any laws passed by Congress or budgets proposed. President Bush required Congress to vote every year, independent of the DoD budget, for the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. That has not changed. There is NO authorization to hold the Surge level strength for 10 more years. All Barry and his buddies did was PRETEND it would be funded for 10 years, so they could PRETEND to cut the cost!

Are the liberal nutters really this gullible!  Geez, what a bunch of dupes. Let’s all just pretend we are accomplishing something, shall we?

But to really add insult to insult, the con men aren’t even trying to hide it:

President Barack Obama‘s budget director said on Thursday that without a shift in policies the U.S. deficit would reach $9 trillion over the next decade.

White House budget chief Peter Orszag said the Obama administration’s budget outline reflects costs for the war in Iraq and other items that were previously not included in the budget.

“All told we are showing $2.7 trillion in costs in this budget that were excluded from previous budgets and I think that is a mark of the honesty and responsibility contained in this document,” he said.

Gotta love the folks who can lie like this without a hint of concern or conscience.  And Reuters calls this blatant shell game on the American people a “policy shift”. Yeah, it’s a shift from being transparent to out and out lying (transparently). George Orwell, your feared future for mankind has finally arrived, 25 years later than you predicted, but it finally has arrived.

Addendum: Folks, this line pretty much sums up the Obama/Pelosi/Reid socialist political strategy for America:

The once-private auto industry, now run by federal “car czar” Steve Rattner, a reformed investment banker, is about to be ordered to produce “more efficient cars and trucks.” Americans, like it or not, will buy these government-designed vehicles with government-supported car loans.

Remember, Obama promised to change America, whereas McCain promised to fix DC. See the difference now?

There is one thing you will never associate with Obama — Character.

What a jerk. The reason that the wars were not included in the budget is because the Pentagon was unable to predict war costs 10 years out. Nobody was trying to hide anything, they are fighting wars real time. There is a DOD budget that takes care of the day to day operation. Why make Bush out to be a cheat, or a lier, because they need to look ethical? They look like fools to me. They are trying to say this is something different, only done under the Bush administration. Well when was the last time we had boots on the ground fighting 2 wars. I’ll bet Clinton had a separate budget to fight in Yugoslavia. No, they won’t torture, except…….no they don’t do rendition, except…….., I’m sick of it!

Yes. They tend very much to be innumerate. This is why people signed up for interest-only or ARM loans, taking payments in excess of 30% of their take-home pay.

The same The One wishes to “bail out”.

The money Obama is talking about spending is just mind boggling. He is trying to make Americans dependent on government so that they will always vote Democrat. It is vote buying, plain and simple.

  5. AJ, we were screwed either way , McCain does not have the intellect to fix anything.

As I said before we are at the test of the American Republic.

We can do as we are required and obligated by the Declaration of Independence or we can pass inot oblivion.

I prefer the optimistic outlook, But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.
