Dumb Move By President Obama – Updated! And Updated Again!

Published by at 12:16 am under All General Discussions

I had no interest in watching our President Oh-Bomba! on Leno tonight (as I knew he would). So I apparently missed most of the disaster. The man is no good outside his one trick caricature of the brooding serious moderate reading from a script, it was inevitable he would bomb out. While average Americans have lost more than half their wealth and savings, President Obama is on Leno yucking it up and making fun of the handicapped:

The first appearance by a sitting president on “The Tonight Show” may well end up being the last.

President Obama, in his taping with Jay Leno Thursday afternoon, attempted to yuk it up with the funnyman, and ended up insulting the disabled.

Towards the end of his approximately 40-minute appearance, the president talked about how he’s gotten better at bowling and has been practicing in the White House bowling alley.

He bowled a 129, the president said.

“That’s very good, Mr. President,” Leno said sarcastically.

It’s “like the Special Olympics or something,” the president said.

Yeah, what a joke. The economy is in shambles and the politically connected rich are getting million dollar bonuses from struggling tax payers and our President is bombing out on Leno. Yeah, there’s ‘change’ for you. Insult the hurting kids as you rob their families of their wealth. Our President is a real piece of work.

Note: I was going to post a picture of the kids experiencing the special olympics, but I could not post those happy faces in connection with these lame comments, so I decided to just go with the logo. It just hurt too much to connect the insult to real lives and faces and families.

Update: Obama comments are so incoherent when compared to his actions it is clear what he says in public is all just a facade, a lie. For example:

It’s important, he [President Obama] said, not to “lurch from thing to thing” in trying to address the nation’s big problems.

“The important thing over the next several months is making sure that we don’t lurch from thing to thing, so we try to make steady progress, build a foundation toward long-term economic growth,” he said. “That’s what I think the American people expect.”

You mean like lurching from a stimulus bill to an omnibus bill to GITMO to the auto industry bailout to the banking bailout to a mortgage bailout to the 2010 budget to cap & trade energy taxes to education reform to the government take over of our health care system. That kind of lurching>

“I think Geithner is doing an outstanding job,” Obama told host Jay Leno in an appearance taped for Thursday night. “He is a smart guy. He is a calm and steady guy. I don’t think people fully appreciate the plate that was handed him.”

Well, America sees the results and they suck. So maybe its just because our President can’t discern a top notch expert from a fast talker?

“We are moving systematically to bring about change but change is hard; change doesn’t happen overnight.”

He cited his decision to close the military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and said that it won’t be simple because the administration must figure out how to balance national security needs and civil liberty concerns.

“It’s not something that happens overnight,” he said. “We have to do it systematically.”

Hint to the President: It’s best to have a plan before you tackle problems or make major changes. Clearly, due to your lack of executive or business experience, you don’t know how to do anything but ‘wing it’ and wrap your mistakes in lofty language.

“We are not always going to be right,” he added. “I don’t want everybody disappointed if we make a mistake here or there.”

What happens when you are rarely right? Like now?

Mr. Obama sought to lower expectations for what the federal government can do to help and said it is up to local communities to prioritize education.

Oh, he’s been lowering expectations about what to expect from his administration at break neck speed. That is one thing he can say he has accomplished. The question is not whether he can fix things, it is how badly will he damage things. So far he is all talk, no results.

Update: Some supporters just don’t get the fact President Obama is in over his head. He has no real plans, he is winging it, his team is running on naive arrogance, and the hole things is a mess spiraling out of control (trust me, I have seen the Feds when they are lost, confounded and heading towards the ditch). Here is another example of people missing the obvious conclusion – Obama’s administration is in deep trouble:

Of all the pitfalls Barack Obama might face in the presidency, here is one not many people predicted: He is struggling as a public communicator.

The sluggish and unsteady response to the uproar over AIG bonuses highlights a larger problem of his White House: Obama’s surprisingly uneven campaign to educate people about the economic crisis and convince Washington and the broader public that he is in command of circumstances.

Actually I am not surprised. You need much more than the ability to give speeches (and one could say you without the crutch of a teleprompter) to lead and solve problems. You must be able to analyze the core problems, not be confused by the myriad of symptoms you will see. You must be able to devise a way to fix the core problems. Then you must rally a lot of independently minded arrogant SOBs in DC to perform the acts necessary to fix the core problem.

Obama has not show any of these skills, and he has so little DC experience that now that he has had to get off the campaign road we find he is NOT in command of the issues. There is no amount of verbal skill that will cover up this kind of experience or capability gap. Obama is not Bill Clinton – whose intellect could allow him to catch up and run ahead of a room full of experts. If only Clinton had the ability to discern the problems and the fixes (which takes a lot of creative thinking added to the analytical skills) he would have been a real good President. He had his handicaps, but Obama is not in the same class as Clinton. And it is showing.

Update: Good lord, this man is such a jerk. Check out the other O-Blunder here.

I bet they will take a poll about his Leno appearance and it will show 65 -70% of the ‘public’ loved it. He is going to do this every time he gets in trouble … go on a pop culture TV show and smile and yuck it up. It is very troubling and I have to say I am bummed… On the other hand… Have you seen his teleprompter’s blog? It cheered me up briefly yesterday …

So many bad things are happening at once that it’s impossible for any person to keep up with them all. Let me give you just one example that slid under the radar yesterday – in ordinary times this would have been a huge story; today, I’ll bet hardly anyone who considers themselves informed even saw this or thought much about it. (certainly the uninformed don’t care)

News Item – Administration advances $5 billion in loans to auto parts suppliers.

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090319/ap_on_bi_ge/auto_bailout

Sounds good, right? We need to prop up these companies to save jobs, right? Really? What did we, the taxpayers, the US government, get in return for this $5 billion?

Did we get any equity? No.

Did we get any controls over how the money will be spent? No.

Did we get any reforms that will slow down the rate at which this industry segment is losing money? NO. (This one is important because if this is not addresses it guarantees they will need more money in 3 months)

Will this money ever be paid back? NO! And this is really quite easy to see; these companies are on the brink of bankruptcy already. This money merely props them up, it doesn’t do anything to fix their situation. Any attempt to collect the money at any point in the future simply pushes them back into bankruptcy and destroys the jobs the loans are trying to save. No government, present or future, will be able to make this choice, therefore the money is gone and can never be repaid.

I used to think that industrial nationalization was one of the worst options this country could have pursued – Now I realize we have discovered a course of action that is even worse. Our policy now is to simply print money and toss it at politically favored corporations with nothing in return, with no equity, no controls, no conditions, and no hope of payback. Ever.

At least with nationalization the taxpayers get something. With this plan our future, our childrens future and our grandchildrens future are all being stolen – and we get nothing. Except a few yucks on Leno.

The two happiest men in America are Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton.

Because Obama is making Carter look competent, and Clinton look honest.

I want a President back who knows what he is doing even if he has trouble making speeches. I don’t care if they don’t have eloquent speeches, at least tell us most of the truth and do your job.

I’ll give Obama a pass at laughing at Leno’s “waterhead” dog comment. I’ve never heard that expression; and, would guess Obama hadn’t either.

However, you can’t help but contrast the difference between Obama’s Special Olympic joke and Sarah Palin’s speech in 2009 to the Special Olympics:

I think the fact that Obama had to apologize for his comments about special olympics might lead to us believe that he won’t be making a lot more shows like that. No doubt the audience yukked it up along with him, but most of them would yuk it up if he wore his underwear on his head and spoke in pig latin.

This guy is starting to scare me.
