The Imperial Obama

Published by at 11:48 am under All General Discussions

It is common for newbie administrations to come into town with grand ideas of how they can control and change America. It usually only takes a few bruising encounters with reality to adjust their thinking.

But Imperial Obama administration has no credible opposition and fawning and compliant news media (what is left of it). So this group is not getting their necessary dose of humility. Without that attitude adjustment, the Emperor and his team are actually blackmailing state lawmakers into compliance to their wishes:

The Obama administration is threatening to rescind billions of dollars in federal stimulus money if Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and state lawmakers do not restore wage cuts to unionized home healthcare workers approved in February as part of the budget.

Schwarzenegger’s office was advised this week by federal health officials that the wage reduction, which will save California $74 million, violates provisions of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Failure to revoke the scheduled wage cut before it takes effect July 1 could cost California $6.8 billion in stimulus money, according to state officials.

The federal government has no legal right to dictate to the states how to run their states. I seriously doubt the provisions in the so called stimulus bill allow the Feds to pull money back like this. Sounds to be a stretch constitutionally.

With that said, if I was a CA lawmaker I would go ‘all in’ and dare Emperor Obama to pull the money from a key electoral state like CA. The political fallout would be swift and enormous. Stand pat CA, the Emperor will fail if he tries to make good on his threat. Time to reign in the newbies in DC.

The only way the opposition is going to get any press time is to go all in.

Challenge if the feds can blackmail the states over Union wages.

Challenge EIT’s, when did you know and what did you say.

Challenge blackmailing banks by the fed.

    I want this discussion. Please!

You know the $17 billion that Obama recommended be cut from the 2010 budget. The Dems are protesting……..not in my district they say. Actually Obama can’t cut anything, or maybe he and the MSM don’t know that.

Schwarzenegger should protest, but I think it will damage him more than the Dear Leader. I seriously doubt Obama could lose California in 2012. I seriously, seriously, seriously doubt it. That state has gone so far left it’s deserving of the nickname the entire Pacific coast has- the “left coast.” Therefore, the fear of losing CA would not be one on Obama’s mind, IMO.

Obama is a conceited person, and honestly believes he is great as president. He will try anything, and if not permitted, will try to find any loophole.

    marksbbr,

I just don’t think you appreciate what 9 months of sky high unemployment will do to the mood of the voters. Are you old enough to remember Carter’s time? It could be worse than that. Should be on par.

Only one thing wrong with the picture. Few people have understood the real impact MSM had over the past 8 years.

They are wounded but not even close to being out. Besides, The One will hire them all. Carter was before it was okay to lie in our faces and nobody blink, even if you knew they were lying. I think we could all starve to death and the MSM would print that Bush caused it. Scary thing is that so many of Obama’s voters would believe it. As long as he redistributes the wealth (Rev Wright, Farrakhan, & Conyers) and power, they will vote.

McCain told the woman that we did not need to be afraid. This is the problem. Yes Mabel, you should be very afraid of this guy.

Think I like the idea of the States voting any crap they like at this point. At least get in the game. The only other choice was the Overseers and they can’t seem to call a Barney Frank a lying scumbag, even as he pointed a finger at them and said they caused it.

Everyone gives the voter too much credit. Sixty plus million voted for Rev Wright.

and actually, in CA unemployment is getting even higher than sky high and residents are leaving the state in droves. Socialism has almost killed it, Obama is trying to drive the last stakes in.

So I agree, at some point, everyone gets fed up. The people need an alternative to socialists and they’re called conservatives.

  6. lurker9876 says:

One should point out that there are very few job openings and no companies are planning to hire aplenty for the next few months. That’s got to hurt more than just the unemployment rate by itself. Amazing that no one’s mentioning this.

I scoffed at Obama’s new “help” program for the unemployeds…where are we going to find money to support this program?

Once Obama hire “em all’, Obama will control what can be printed in the newspapers. The day Obama hire ’em all’, that’s the day many people will cancel the local subscription and seek other avenues. Will there be a black market Internet if Obama buys the Internet? I’m just being facetious.

I find it so hard to believe that many people are still saying that they LOVE Obama and believe he’s doing all the right things. They are still not ready to give up on him.

Has anyone noticed that the MSM is NOT doing the hype-reporting over Obama’s casualties like they did with Bush’s? Many conservative bloggers have been comparing how the MSM report on Bush in a very negative way and Obama in a very positive way on the same or similar decisions.

I wonder what Arnold and CA will do…once they quelch the fires in Santa Barbara.

I was thinking of nearly this same issue yesterday only on a slightly different topic. That was how the federal government uses withholding of federal highway funds to extort policy from the states. What if a state said “fine, keep your highway funds, we will do it ourselves. Oh, and we are keeping you federal fuel tax to do it with.” and ordered state collection of federal fuel tax.

Same with other things, like national parks. Keep them as national parks open to everyone, but kick out the federal bureaucracy and manage them with a state agency. Usage fees would go to the states, the states would manage and maintain the parks.

I would like to see something like:

“Welcome to the Sovereign State of .
Proud Member of the United States of America”

posted at a state line one of these days.

    Crosspatch,
Thats a state I’d move to and defend! Alaska would be a good place to start or Montana or New Mexico or Wyoming. Only problem with the last three is Ted Turner owns bunches of them I think.

  10. oldguy says:

Another thing that Obama will have to get him through the tough times ahead that didn’t exist in the Carter era is the “Civilian Defense Corps” (uniformed community organizers). This will be used to “encourage” state governments and voters to BELIEVE in the Dear Leader’s plans for us. Their training will begin with the 2010 census. All with the backing of the MSM, which wil be saved by the O with taxpayer $$.

  11. lurker9876 says:

LOL! You know, some of these states CAN separate themselves from the federal government for offshore drilling (OCS). Texas and LA are well-positioned but they can certainly build more, new, and better refineries and market its oil to the rest of the states and abroad. Imagine the revenues brought to these states!

Then Mississippi, Florida, Alaska, Montana (Bakken Fields), Colorado (oil shade drilling), etc. can follow suit!

We won’t be paying income taxes and FICA anymore.

  12. lurker9876 says:

When Perry made those comments at his tea party, I thought…what a great idea! I’ll support it. Unfortunately, he doesn’t have the support…yet.

  13. cochino says:

Of course the course Obama and the Democrats has set is the road to ruin. History tells us only one thing- it won’t work. I dare anyone to find an exception, in this country or elsewhere. It’s depressing. It’s like some movie with a horrible ending that everybody knows. It’s ironic.

However, I think conservatives need to brace themselves. The economy is probably going to rebound in the next year; not back to where it was, mind you, but enough. The headlines proclaiming Obama a success have already been written. The MSM can’t wait to publish those stories. If history is any indication, it will probably be well into the next Presidential term before it begins to become apparent that it’s a big mess.

  14. owl says:

Yep to Perry. LOL. At least he had the guts to threaten back, plus he moved one ‘maybe’ into his corner.

OT but I don’t want a $357 thousand photo. I want PROOF of who was on that plane. Think Cheney said it took a lot to make those wheels roll. MSM will be curious? Nah……old news.

  15. russellshih says:

These guys are grabbing all the power they can, like kids in a candy store! They will over-reach, but the MSM will not call them on this. We will have to rely on FOX, radio and the net.

  16. Neo says:

I recommend Arnold call their bluff.

  17. Boghie says:

Who here thinks the Governator and the California Senate/Assembly will poke a stick in ‘The Ones’ eye?

There is no opposition to Obama here in California. There is no strength in the opposition party. The elected opposition is impotent. The voters are apathetic. Maybe the electorate will vote against massive tax increased behind the green curtain on the 19th, but maybe not. You know the children and everything.

Watch out for a bankruptcy that will dwarf anything ever seen!!!

  18. Mike M. says:

The Dems run the CA legislature. They’ll cave – it’s a sop to the unions.

  19. Frogg says:

I guess we will soon find out if the Governator has a backbone or not. Maybe California should reply to Obama with one of those Tenth Amendment resolutions that other states are voting on.

  20. WWS says:

ah-nold has become a little girly governor.
