Wow! That’s A Lot Of Bullets
Hat Tip to RealClearPolitics for this stunning news:
The Senate unanimously passed legislation on Tuesday authorizing $491.6 billion in defense programs, including policies on treatment of detainees likely to prompt a dispute with the House of Representatives.
The Senate approved amendments to bar torture and regulate interrogations and treatment of detainees, but also to curb access to federal court protection by inmates at the U.S. prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
The House-passed version of the defense authorization bill does not include the detainees policies.
And no, I am not focused on the detainee issues. That is one enormous defense bill. In 2002 it was $329B, last GFY (ending Sept 30th) it was $402B. Hopefully I am grabbing apples and apples for comparisons.
What will democrats tell their liberal base about this??
Democrates will continue to tell their people the truth. It costs a h*ll of a lot of money to run a war. So of course, Conservative Republicans have decided to: 1) Borrow it and run up the debt. 2) Run up the debt a bit more to pay off the top 1% of the rich and 3) Cut all the programs that stop people from starving to death in front of the White House in the hope that the first starvation deaths will come when the Democrats are back in power.
Great. We’re going to get micro-managed interrogations.
