Litvinenko Warned By US & UK About Berezovsky

Published by at 1:44 pm under All General Discussions

Now I understand why authorities in the UK and US are so obsessed with the assassination theory behind Litvinenko’s death – they have a stake in that theory being proven correct:

Alexander Litvinenko was warned by British and American secret agents that his life was in danger because of his ties with exiled Russian oligarch Boris Berezovsky, The Mail on Sunday can reveal.

Litvinenko told Italian security adviser Mario Scaramella at their now-infamous lunch at a sushi restaurant that he had ‘interrupted’ his work with Berezovsky on ‘US and British advice’.

Scaramella then told another Russian intelligence specialist – who is under the protection of the French secret services – that Litvinenko had recently fallen out with Berezovsky. Evgeni Limarev said: ‘I had very strong information, confirmed by Mario, that Litvinenko had quarrelled with Berezovsky. I can’t say more than that.’

So what was this falling out? How could that be if Litvinenko was at Berezovsky’s offices recently? Was Litvinenko tired of his low level role compared to Lugovoi and others? Is it even plausible the US andUK would warn Litvinenko and he would not warn Berezovsky?

One thing is for sure, ifpeople in the US and UK believed Litvinenko was a target before his contamination they would have a tough time stepping back and seeing other alternative scenarios. But I still think Litvinenk was feeding Scaramella boatloads of BS on all sorts of topics. However, it does bring Berezovsky back to the center of this mess were I suspected it would lead.

Update: Here is the man, Yuri Shvetz, who was questioned here in the DC area regarding this case. His expertise is very telling. As are his ties to Berezovsky:

Shvets, 53, emerges as yet another character in an espionage saga linking Britain, Italy, the US and Russia. Like Litvinenko, Shvets worked for the Russian billionaire Boris Berezovsky, whom the Kremlin has tried unsuccessfully to extradite from Britain.

All lines seem to point to Berezovsky, and people willing to provide evidence to this case. A man in jail in Russia, numerous ex Russian spies, a PR mouthpiece….

Fox news alert: big explosion in EAST SUSSEX in a “fire cracker” factory.

  2. crosspatch says:

Could be anything. Could be an intercepted phone call that his partners in polonial crime were about to bump him off.

The US federal crime agency FBI has launched its own investigations in connection with the poisoning death of Russian ex-spy Alexander Litvinenko, British press reports said Sunday.

The Observer reported that the FBI focus was on a potential key figure in the case, a former member of the KGB secret service now living in the United States.

Thanks.. I think this is interesting:
“Shvets, who has worked at the Center for Counterintelligence and Security Studies in Washington, said he was currently traveling in the U.S. on vacation, but would not confirm his precise location because of concern for his personal security.

“I want to survive until the time we have a criminal case in relation to Sasha’s death brought before a court in London,” Shvets told the AP.

In a separate statement issued through Tom Mangold, a former British Broadcasting Corp. reporter and his friend of 15 years, Shvets denied claims published Sunday in Britain’s Observer newspaper that he had been involved in the drafting of a dossier on Russian oil company Yukos.

Former Yukos shareholder Leonid Nevzlin, a Russian exile living in Israel, told the AP last week that Litvinenko had given him a document related to Yukos and said he believed the agent’s killing was tied to his investigations into the company.

Mangold said Shvets had denied the newspaper report, which said he had examined charges filed by Russian prosecutors against Yukos officials and shareholders and had given his findings to Litvinenko.”

Oh–and it seems he regards Litvinenko as a friend..

Whole lot of disinfo going on…How expensive is it to buy Brit journos? Cheap I think.

Everybody seems to want or have a piece of this – the Israelis, the Americans, the Italians, the Russians, the Chechens. Any minute now the Iranians will appear on the scene (Iran made relatively large amounts of polonium 210 in what some experts call a secret effort to develop nuclear arms per the NYT who has leaked documents about everything). And with so many having a connection, each will have its own theory – I hope the investigators can keep an open mind. Still wondering what the 20 sites are

Here’s an interesting article about two polonium accidents in Britain:http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2006/11/30/upoison130.xml
one was a nail biter and the other stuff was inhaled

  9. crosspatch says:

John Bolton testified in 2004 about Iranian polonium production.

Here is a transcript of one of his speeches while he worked at State:

Goldfarb is up to it again: Last night Alex Goldfarb, a close friend of the victim, revealed that on his death bed Mr Litvinenko voiced his suspicions about the former FSB agent. Mr Goldfarb said yesterday that his friend did not want to publicise details of his encounters with Mr Lugovoy and some of his associates, in the hope that he would recover and lure these men back to London when he was better.

  11. crosspatch says:

In an interview with Italy’s RAI TG1 television news, Scaramella said doctors told him that his body contains five times the dose of polonium-210 considered deadly. “So my mood isn’t the best,” he told the channel.

He’s dead. If not from outright alpha radiation then soon to die from cancer.

  12. clarice says:

Lugovoy, in my mind the prime suspect, is dead, too..probably before the foreign investigators get there.

As for the carelessness in handling the polonium question you raised on the other thread…here’s one hypothesis–he thought he was handling something less tracable and lethal than polonium.

  14. ivehadit says:

So what does all this mean?

Either that Putin is using chems to kill off his enemies or the terrorists were passing wmd and had a “spill”? Does that sum it up?

  15. Lizarde1 says:

Clarice I agree with you finally – Lugovoy is going to die within 3 months.

  16. Ken says:

Isn’t Strata going to take time out to complain about the leaked Rumsfeld document wherein even more duplicity was revealed?

  17. crosspatch says:

“Lugovoy, in my mind the prime suspect, is dead, too..probably before the foreign investigators get there.”

Based on the information so far, yes, I certainly would want to have a nice long talk with him. He seems to be the one that we can connect with the oldest contamination based on the information that has been made public so far.

Also, if these men are indeed dead men walking, it might prompt them to speak the truth because they would have nothing to fear. What is someone going to do, kill them? That is, if they are even capable of telling the truth.

  18. Snapple says:

Personally, I think it is Putin.

Putin made the probem in Chechnya worse because he used Islamists to discredit nationalists. Now he is reaping the whirlwind.

He’s not so somart. He’s a thug with little creativity or negotiating skills.

Many of his critics have a way of dying and never has one murder have ever been solved. But this Litvinenko was no angel if he hangs around with Berezovsky.

I think it is deliberate and in-your-face because Putin is trying to send a message.

  19. Lizarde1 says:

CP – do you think Boris is contaminated and we just haven’t heard anything? We know Goldfarb refuses to be tested.
