Iran And Congress On Notice

Published by at 8:55 pm under All General Discussions

Secretary of State Rice put both Iran and Congress on notice not to interfere with our new Iraq strategy.

The US stepped up pressure on Iran Thursday with the secretary of state warning that Washington will not stand “idly by” if Tehran disrupts a new strategy to stabilize Iraq hours after US troops raided an Iranian government office in Irbil. …

Rice declined repeatedly to rule out US military action against Iran.

“I don’t want to speculate on what operations the United States may be engaged in, but you will see that the United States is not going to simply stand idly by and let these activities continue,” she said.

I would like to provide a little lesson on the government spending process. The Department of Defense budget for GFY 07 was the only budget to pass last fall before the Reps lost control, and it includes some money to wage the war on terror for some period of time. It definitely contains enough money to get the troops into position for this new offensive. And no budget adjustments passed by Congress will make it past the President’s veto pen. So all this posturing and blowing hot air from the armchair, fantasy CinC types is pure BS. And when it comes time for Congress to support the troops to adjust the operation they Congress authorized then they will either support our troops or face certain expulsion and the next election. The ‘must lose at any cost’ crowd is not gaining public support. And it is not getting complete democrat support either.

AJ, there is, as us spooks like to say, a lot of chatter out there. Don’t you get the feeling that the $h.t is about to his the fan? I think a number of factors are coming to a head, particularly in Iran.

  2. Retired Spook says:

Geez, it’s been a looooong day. That should have been “hit the fan”. Sigh, fingers — brain — disconnect.

    Retired Spook,

    Yeah, something is coming.

    Hopefully in our favor, huh?

Regarding GFY 07, I was thinking about why Bush picked November as the deadline for Al-Maliki to meet all of the benchmarks so asked you earlier this morning. You just confirmed it.

So between now and September, all’s Bush had to do is wait for the Democrats to make more fools out of themselves.

Donja think that Zawahiri, Hizb’allah, and others celebrating the Democratic wins are watching these events with shock and awe?

In addition to the shit hitting the fan, donja think something’s happening in Lebanon, too?

This will help with the justification. I cannot read Arabic so this is an English translation. There is a link for the source document within.

strata, the wars in iraq and afghanistan have not and are not being financed by the DoD budget. instead, the wars have been financed by special “emergency” spending bills that are passed on an ad hoc basis (you know, like that bill that kerry supported before he voted against it)

so you’re wrong to say that the GFY 07 bill “it includes some money to wage the war on terror for some period of time. It definitely contains enough money to get the troops into position for this new offensive.” it probably does not. the war probably has enough funding until the money passed in the last emergency spending bill runs out. i have no idea whether there is enough to get troops into position for the new offensive before congress needs to renew the funding.

TomAnon, the article is in farsi, not arabic. (which is why i can’t read it either)

The budget is not going to be an influence. The money will be there. The Pres is going to do what he wants to do, what he thinks is the right thing. Yea, the Dems will huff and puff, but they will not be willing to get the blame for defeat. Even tho they want to lose, they would like for the Pres to get the blame. They won’t cut the money.
So the Dems will go as far as they can to betray the country. But if it looks like they’ll get any personal blame the old “chicken” in them will come out. Three months from now, we’ll wonder what all the commotion was about. And Baghdad will be secure.

Ken, you just gave yourself away. You are the only person ever on this site to call AJ “Strata” in such a disrespectful carping way. Also you once told me I should learn farsi for some odd reason. Nobody else has ever brought up farsi before but you. But I will admit your theme is the same. We are wrong, wrong, wrong about everything we post. You are the only one with any brains on this site.

  9. upyernoz says:

first, i’m not ken. as i said before, google “upyernoz” and you will find i’ve been using this handle on the internets for about 5 years. i am not and never have been ken.

and i never meant any disrespect by calling AJ Strata, “strata”. it was just easier to type

and TomAnon, not me, is the one who brought up farsi. or at least he cited a web site and said it was in arabic. i can read arabic and could tell it was in farsi, not arabic.

do you honestly think that this ken guy is the only one on the planet who is aware there is a language called “farsi”?
