Adult Stem Cells Now Replacing Heart Valves

Published by at 7:09 am under All General Discussions,Stem Cell Debate

For those who have faulty heart valves there is now a scientific breakthrough to create new valves from their own bone marrow. In another stunning breakthrough for Adult Stem Cell Research, replacement heart valves are being grown from adult stem cells, avoiding the problem of tissue rejection completely:

In April, a team led by heart surgeon Sir Magdi Yacoub of Harefield Hospital, in West London, revealed that they had used bone marrow stem cells to create a replacement heart valve for the first time.

As Sir Magdi’s team publishes details of the experiment in the journal Philosophical Transaction of the Royal Society today, colleagues said the valves could be grown from scratch within weeks.

Dr Dorthe Schmidt, of the University of Zurich, said a valve could be implanted into a sick heart “after a time period of six to eight weeks”.

This could be the precursor to avoiding organ transplants. 8 weeks to a rebuilt heart. And Embryonic Stem Cell research is still trying to figure out how to stop growing cancers – let alone repair anything. The Embryonic Stem Cell argument is pure snake oil, trying to patent genes because the law still, blindly, doesn’t recognize the scientific fact that an embryo is a human being, separate and distinct from mother and father. The same DNS tests used in courts across this country would prove this, but people won’t face up to reality. It bothers their “morals” too much.

    AJ,
    Good post!
This is an axample of improving the human condition, instead of destroying it to improve it.

    Aj,

As a double valve replacement patient, I was lucky to keep one of my own valves after being born with bicuspid aortic valve.

What I would give to have had the opportunity to have my pulmonary valve be my own!!!

    I hope this pans out.

    Cheers,
