Hamdan: A Surprise Gift
Addendum:One thing people need to keep in their minds as the left comes spewing out in the midst of losing their minds is what the Bush administration was attempting to do in Hamdan. The administration was attempting to TRY the man for war crimes. The changes made to due process were there to protect the people of the court (keeping the accused in a remote location) and to keep a lid on national secrets. To read the lefties today some might think Bush was wiretapping them illegally, sifting through their bank records illegally, torturing them! But no. All his administration was doing was taking them to trial for the brutal killings these people had committed. When you sit back and realize we were taking people to trial (as opposed to dragging them into the night for a lynching) you wonder what in the world is going on with the left! One thing is for sure. The way the left is going (defending Saddam Hussein in Iraqi Court) Khalid Sheik Mohammed could possibly get off for illegal search and seizure of his laptop, which led to the capture of many an Al Qaeda agent. All of which could be freed on the technicality there was no warrant to go through the man’s private files…..Oh brother, where will this silliness end when liberals cheer when a President is stopped from trying people for war crimes. And this at a time when Americans are ready to see the NY Times and its sources go to trial for aiding the terrorists’ cause! End Update
From the reactions I am reading from the left they have finally ‘jumped the shark’ over the Hamdan decision. And that is something I did not expect! There is no love lost or empathy for Al Qaeda in this country. It takes a lot of effort to offer up basic human rights to people who are blood thirsty animals- but we do it. While they saw off heads of innocent prisoners (kidnapped people?) for their snuff video collections, we have our prisoners in GITMO getting three squares, excersize and all the Koran’s they need.
As I pointed out earlier that 6 years of pent up frustration has built up in the left from wandering in the political wasteland for so long, and now it appears to have come bursting out in frenzy of needed vindication for all those years of impotency. The WaPo story I saw yesterday I thought was just one person’s moment were all self control was lost and their true desires came rushing out. Little did I know this was going to be an epidemic of desperation vindication across the leftward fringes. Bush instantly went from having to retune his War Commissions from Hamdan to be more in line with the Court Martial process to being a war criminal himself:
But the real blockbuster in the Hamdan decision is the court’s holding that Common Article 3 of the Geneva Convention applies to the conflict with Al Qaeda — a holding that makes high-ranking Bush administration officials potentially subject to prosecution under the federal War Crimes Act. … Common Article 3 forbids “cruel treatment and torture [and] outrages upon personal dignity, in particular humiliating and degrading treatment.” The provision’s language is sweeping enough to prohibit many of the interrogation techniques approved by the Bush administration.
The left has taken sides and it is not with America! The left is rushing to defend those prisoners like Khalid Shiek Mohammed (who is directly responsible for 9-11) from the horrors of being kept awake or taunted in order to learn when and where and how the next attack may happen. And more importantly, who would be the next in line to fill Al Qaeda’s leadership ranks. The left is attacking the US Administration for being too hard on these people (who somehow survived all these ordeals for years and keep passing the Red Cross tests for being physically and mentally healthy). The left is trying to be defense attorney for the very people who slowly sawed off Nick Berg’s head, bombed mosques and railroad stations, and who send gullible children into markets as suicide bombers. To the left, they are the ones in this battle who deserve protection from the evil Bushitler.
Reading this article from a truly warped and confused mind, I find the bar for impeachment (I said all along this would be the issue for the season) of the President to be very low indeed:
But here’s where the rubber really hits the road. Under federal criminal law, anyone who “commits a war crime … shall be fined … or imprisoned for life or any term of years, or both, and if death results to the victim, shall also be subject to the penalty of death.” And a war crime is defined as “any conduct … which constitutes a violation of Common Article 3 of the international conventions signed at Geneva.” In other words, with the Hamdan decision, U.S. officials found to be responsible for subjecting war on terror detainees to torture, cruel treatment or other “outrages upon personal dignity” could face prison or even the death penalty.
Emphasis mine. Got that? If we hurt the terrorists’ dignity (which of course confinement does, as does killing their comrades in battle and assisting their victims in the creation of democracies back in their bloodstained homelands) then the death penalty applies.
Mark my words, the Hamdan decision will be the best thing that ever happened to the Reps because the leftward fever swamps have their proof Bush needs to be impeached for ever responding to 9-11 (something he secretly made happen anyway). Impeachment is the goal, and the left will use the war on terror and the Hamdan case to try and take down a US President in order to protect the rights of those savages who killed 3,000 Americans 5 years ago in September. The left has forgotten 9-11 under years and years of pent up anger at being out of power. They have hidden history under years of internet conspiracy theories which stripped more and more reality away and replaced them with fantasies that have some people believing every election has been stolen and no one died on 9-11. And these people are bursting out of their long frustrated silence into the light of the public square. This will be sad, unnerving and fascinating. A long time political party is going to implode before our eyes.

The have always been obsessive compulsive. Even on News and Notes on NPR last night one of the commentators said give the Dems a perfect opportunity and they will blow it.
Also the left keeps commenting on the death and horror of the war.
Can anyone tell me the last war we were in where 5 years after the initial attack, the military death toll was less than the number killed in the initial attack????
Each loss is dear, but this is a remarkable situation.
US Supreme Court does the right thing…
The US Supreme Court has ruled that the Bush Administration’s plans to try captives from the war on Islamic Fundamentalist extremists in military tribunals without considering them prisoners of war is a non-starter. Click here to read the article in…
Dog Update…
What up, dog? Alpha Male must respect order of the pack. Or something. The dogs days of summer have come early to Washington. It’s a dog eat dog world. How will this effect snoop dog?
For anyone who missed it, Republicans are currently spinnin…
The good guys won in this, no matter how it is spun, the terrorists will remain in Gitmo and they will be tried, most likely in a congressional authorized tribunal. So what if it’s 5 years from now. Hell I don’t care if they’re never tried, that just means they stay where they are.
These people are so nuts. Really. The Supreme Court made it plain those folks will stay right where they are for the forseeable future and the Bush administration can either court martial them or for that matter go to Congress and ask for legislation to make tribunals possible. If the Left wants to make an issue of this they can, but I have not talked to one person who wants to see those people at Gitmo walk, not one.
Well except on line and God knows who they might be.
This democracy thing is not always clean cut. Bush and his Attorney Generals and the military have handled this very well from the start. Civil courts are just a recipee for failure. Gitmo has kept these terrorist killers on ice for 5 years. If these terrorists remain there for the duration of hostilities, then all well and good. But it sounds like the trial lawyers want to get some traction and spring some of these jehadies. Some have been released already and gone back to killing. This promises to be a interesting summer.
AJ,
You’ve painted the picture quite well — the left & many of the dems have really lost it. Obviously, a lot of this frustration (& insanity) is due to 2000 & 2004 elections, but the roots are in Vietnam & Watergate.
Our current political leaders as well as those in the media are from this generation. From Vietnam, the hippie protesters and peaceniks “learned” that war is never right, and that anti-establishment and rude & crude works, and that the military must be bad. From Watergate, the lesson was that government cannot be trusted, that our governemnt is corrupt at heart — it just takes a committed “journalist” to find the “truth”. This combination, in conjunction with the liberal “farm systems” at our academic institutions, is fanning the flames of the anti-Bush and, frankly, anti-U.S. blather that we hear and read daily from the MSM.
