McCain Hits A Home Run With VP Pick – It’s Sarah Palin!
I have had my fingers crossed all week McCain would take advantage of the opening Obama left wide open to tap a woman conservative as his VP selection – and now it seems MY hopes have come true!
Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, a self-styled “hockey mom” who has been governor for less than two years, is GOP Presidential candidate John McCain’s choice for Vice President.
A senior McCain campaign official confirmed the choice, which was first reported by CNBC.
McCain was to introduce his choice at an event on Friday at midday in Dayton, Ohio.
Palin, 44, was a relatively surprising pick, but one aimed at appealing to women voters who might have been disillusioned by Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama’s decision to pick Biden as his No. 2 instead of Democratic Sen. Hillary Clinton of New York.
Now all those angry, bitter women who were completely let down by the Democrats have new hope. And make no mistake about it, if McCain-Palin are elected the first Woman President of these United States is staged to be elected in 2012 or 2016.
Those Hillary supporters who were considering McCain are going to go from a trickle to a tsunami. I would not be surprised to see a 10 point bounce off this selection. If the reaction of the women here at NASA are any indication (they are cheering like crazy) McCain just became the next President of the United States. This is truly exciting news which will totally eclipse Obama’s liberal ranting from last night. Way to go McCain!
Addendum: Thank god we did not get another dusty old white guy from the Senate and we tapped a Governor for the ticket. Obama even pales in comparison to Palin. This is an election for the history books, and my guess there are some coattails for McCain-Palin in the offing as well. BTW – remember it will take 2-3 days to see a bounce on this news, so the polls right now are incredibly unreliable.
Update: While the some on the right sulk, the Hillary supporters are cheering!
Update: The Democrat nuts have come out ugly and have decided denigrating a woman selected as VP is the way to win. I have women reading the crap from the fringe nuts and the mainstream media and they are in total shock at the abuse Palin is getting from the leftward gutter swamps. At this rate Obama may see a 20 bounce in McCain’s direction. Only a few whack jobs are so bitter they would attack a woman on her ability to raise a family and work, make the claim it was her ovaries who got her the job. It is disgusting.
Palin has more experience than Obama, so that ain’t going to fly. The Democrats are acting like more like the Taliban regarding women than simply recognizing the fact there are woman who are Republicans. That party is rotten to its sick core.

Seriously, I think McCain’s campaign of the last month will be studied for decades to come. It has been nothing short of brilliant. Fast-moving, lightning-quick counterpunches, and capped off with a brilliant exploitation of an opposition misstep.
Of course, it helped that Sarah Palin covers just about all McCain’s weaknesses. Her conservative credentials are impeccable, and she will grab the soccer mom vote out from under the Democrats.
Well, I’m very interested in the VP debate now – Biden vs. Palin? Bring the popcorn.
I’m curious how her pro-gay rights decisions will go over with the base. Or the windfall tax she approved for oil companies.
Plus, they’re going to take a 44 year old women who has been a Governor for less than two years and has no foreign policy experience, and put her a heartbeat away from the presidency. And that’s a 72 year old heart, inside a man with a history of health problems.
How could anyone possibly argue that Obama isn’t experienced enough to be Commander-in-Chief, but Palin is?
She brings a lot of good things to the ticket, but it’s still a pretty risky ploy on McCain’s part, and I’m not sure how many former female Clinton supports are going to be energized about voting for a pro-life female VP candidate. But between this, Obama’s speech last night, and the upcoming Repub convention – I’m not even going to pretend I have any idea what the polls will look like this time next week.
As I said before, AJ, excellent choice! Your resident liberal hack has one thing correct: The Biden/Palin debate will be awesome, as Palin will expose Biden as the condescendingly arrogant yet clueless sexist bigot he truly is with very little effort. The next few months will be fun.

Are you kidding, peeps? At my blog, Fuanglada blog, I brought my previous predictions up to the top. Obama/Clinton ticket was the winner for the Dems. Now Obama loses and the nation is better off for it. I live in Alaska and this woman is a veeeery good governor… She takes on anyone without fear… The ONE selection that could get us all excited. Why did we not all see this as McCain’s obvious choice? btw, there is no new info at my blog… Just some cheerleading. btw, [male chauvinist alert] I am an active 70 and this woman is hot!!!

btw2… You want poll numbers?… I’ll give you the only poll sample you need. ONE voter… That ONE vote [Fuanglada, my Thai wife] is incredibly excited and pumped up over Palin’s selection. I have NEVER seen her so energized. [Over politics? Pleeeese. This is exceptional.
OK. You seem to forget a few things here regarding Palin.
1. Experience–She was mayor for 8,000 people and now the governor for Alaska. That is less experience than Obama who was a state senator for Ill. and now a senator for the U.S for 4 years.
2. She is a woman. This will not fly in the deep south. Although they would not vote for a black man either, they will not even come out to vote.
3. She is a women. The Hillary supportors the Repubs bank on coverting will not, since I would guess 90% are liberal feminists that support a women’s right to choose.
4. She is a women. The ultra conservatice christan right will have none of it.
I am not trying to be chauvinistic but this is the truth.

Her husband works for BP, an oil company. This is why she voted for this. I guess she knows the tricks of Washington already.
AJ, you’re right – absolutely a home run! I was worried all week that McCain would go for a friend of his like Liebermann – NOT becasue Joe’s a dem, but because it would have been the same mistake Obama made. As you said, another dusty white guy from the Senate who excites no one.
This pick is brilliant! Every criticism of her (not enough experience, too young, no foreign exposure, etc) is a criticism of Obama.
Obvious point to make vis a vis Biden – isn’t the President supposed to be the tutor, not the Veep?
I went home for lunch and caught some of her interview on C-Span. Her straightforward answers to questions, even hostile ones ,are refreshing, and in great contrast to the verbal dodge we get from Dem pols trying to hide what they really think or who they really are. She’s comfortable in her own (beautiful) skin, and will be a formidable debater, in my opinion.
Leftard women may not vote for her, but they will have to respect her and what she’s done. She will bring many over to the Republican camp though, from the alienated Hillary following for sure, but I believe more than a few will flow from the Obama camp too, as they get to know them both better.

Well, Her energy experience in Alaska and her command of Alaska’s national guard are orders of magnitude more than a blowhard senator’s experience in a debating society.
And by the way, just exactly what was Obama’s experience- his visit to Pakastan while a citizen of a country in southeast asia?
I watched the rally and was blown away. She knows how to give a speech. And I have no doubt that she can win over the Hillary supporters. She had a very classy ending to her speech. She acknowledge Geraldine Ferraro and how she broke though the barrier for women. She then acknowledged Hillary for her breakthroughs as well. And made some very nice comments about Hillary herself and her campaign. She then mentioned how Hillary had been able to put 18 million cracks in the glass ceiling, but that the women of America weren’t done yet and how we are going to shatter it.
She is a very strong woman and I think an excellent choice.
Yahoo! Wahoo! I am really, really excited about Sarah Palin. I loved her speech. For the first time I really felt that a person meant and stood behind every word she said in her speech today. She hit on every issue that she knew Obama would go after her on. She eliminated as many ammunition away from Obama and Biden. She will do an excellent job against Biden.
This is going to make it easier for Hillary to win in 2012 but as long as McCain, Palin, and the Republicans do the right thing in the next four years (providing that McCain and Palin win), then this will negate the chances that Hillary may have for 2012.
My dad now feels that McCain has a real chance to beat Obama.
And Sarah’s got the looks. That will attract the youth vote…big time.

Milk came shooting out my nose and all over my keyboard when I read how the left is going after her lack of experiance. “and has no foreign policy experience, and put her a heartbeat away from the presidency.” ROTFLMFAO!!! What about a Presidential candidate that has no experiance?? The left is so precious, with out them the computer keyboard industry would be in serious trouble.
My wife, who’s always been a very independant voter (never affiliated with any party) was shocked at the way Charles Gibson cut into programming to make the announcement – he had absolutely nothing good to say about her, she said she had never heard that negative of an assessment from any newsman. And Gibson’s report disgusted her.
She had never been a McCain supporter, but Charles Gibson and his nakedly partisan response has pushed her over the edge. She’s always been my best way to gauge the way that independants are moving, and if she’s representative then independan women are going to swarm to McCain over this.
Hey, I’m glad you’re all excited about her – I think it’s a gutsy pick, and she has a lot to admire about her. She’s a completely blank slate for the most part – considering the number of A- or B-list bloggers that were writing things like “I know almost nothing about her” (Google must have been getting quite the workout this morning), you can imagine the general public’s reaction.
And yes, McCain may have picked up some votes on this one. I’m sure there are women out there who wanted desperately to vote for Hillary, and will now switch their vote because there’s a woman on the Repub ticket. I don’t think that number is nearly large enough to cause any shift in the polls – but I guess we’ll find out soon enough.
But, it’s simply a fact that the “lack of experience” line from McCain was a pretty effective attack against Obama, and it’s completely negated now. There’s simply no way he can stand on a stage with her beside him, and claim that Obama does not have the experience necessary to be Commander in Chief.
Bresch, it wasn’t the oil companies money she gave back to the people. It was ALASKAN GOVERNMENT REVENUE FROM OIL PRICES that she gave back to them.
BIG difference. Government doesn’t deserve the THREE TRILLION dollars that it gets now. We are going to stop the flow and GIVE IT BACK TO THE PEOPLE who DO deserve it. IT’S THEIRS!

Hardly. The Obama with no experience is a candidate for president. The Palin with “no experience” is a candidate for vice president. And the Biden only has “debating society” experience.

Oh please, any party that makes Barack Obama its nominee is in no position to whine about Sarah Palin’s lack of experience.
She has an approval rating of over 80% in Alaska and she has two more years executive experience than The One has.
As for how she will do up against that bag of wind Biden, who knows? I do know that when Biden first entered the Senate, John McCain was being beaten in a POW camp in North VietNam…so any pretense Biden might have to not being a well connected Washington insider is out the window. He is part of the problem, not part of the solution.
And when the Obama camp felt the need to make fun of the woman, it came off as petty and nasty.

Palin has been to Iraq as many times as antiwar Democrat Barack Obama.
It’s simple really.
Palin is not running for the top spot on the ticket.
She has MORE experience than Obie does and he’s the one running for President.
She has a child only a few months old with Down Syndrome yet she’s going to spend the next few months travelling around the country campaigning. Talk about a lack of priorities. These Republicans talk about family values but they sure as hell don’t live them. Shame on this egotistical woman.

She was mayor of a town then Governor of the State of Alaska. Jules, did you look at her children, beautiful, poises, and delighted with their Mother’s accomplishment. Don’t you worry she will have plenty of help with her children and time enough for a 4 month old baby. Is it ideal, probably not but life is never ideal. I’m sure she will do just fine. Go read this interview McCain recently did with Time Magazine. Then, tell me which party’s politican are “trying to hide what they really think or who they really are”.
A short sample:
T: “In 2000, after the primaries, you went back to South Carolina to talk about what you felt was a mistake you had made on the Confederate flag. Is there anything so far about this campaign that you wish you could take back or you might revisit when it’s over?”
M: [Does not answer.]
T: Do I know you? [Says with a laugh.]
M: [Long pause.] I’m very happy with the way our campaign has been conducted, and I am very pleased and humbled to have the nomination of the Republican Party.
T: You do acknowledge there was a change in the campaign, in the way you had run the campaign?

Sensible Americans will see this as a sign of respect for them and their values.

Thank you for that remark to Jules. You are right, it is over the line.
I don’t need to wait on Rasmussen to see the bump for McCain. 2 of my female friends, one who campaigned for Romney, one for Huckabee, were going to sit home in November. With the choice of Palin they are stoked and fully committed to the ticket.
Additionally, my wife who detests all things political called me from work to make sure I had heard the announcement. She was ecstatic.
A large portion of undecideds this election cycle have been conservatives without a candidate and women who supported Hillary. McCain will hit 50% now that Palin is by his side.
Most conservatives seem to have liked the choice, no? I like her. What disappoints me is that she has no economic background or foreign policy experience. What I am asking myself is if McCain dies, will she be able to face Putin (who let us be honest is brilliant and is a very effective leader), and al Qaeda? I hope so…
I hope dem’s keep going after Palin just the way that Jules is – he is arguing that no women with young children can ever be fit to serve in a public office.
How do you think mothers across this country are going to respond to the party that makes that argument?
