View The Promise Of Obama’s Green America!
Seems fate is giving us a lot of warning signs about what practices from Europe and Canada we should not be following. The liberal DC siren song about a Green America fighting CO2 levels would take a bad economy and basically cripple it for good, if Canada is any model:
If you want to know what an economy that pumps out less carbon dioxide is like, look at Ontario, Quebec and Alberta. Factories closed, growing numbers of jobless, people driving less because they have nowhere to go, government deficits.
…
However, it’s also what a well-meaning climate-change lobby felt was pain worth risking for the sake of the planet, when it recommended a regimen of emission caps and/or carbon taxes to reduce C02 emissions in Canada.
…
A rough and dirty calculation of Canada using 445,000 cubic metres of various refined petroleum products less in November 2008, over 2007, is a reduction in CO2 emissions of 1.6 million tonnes. Annualize that kind of a reduction in fuel use and you’re looking at something like 20 million tonnes less C02 in 2009, if the recession doesn’t turn.
However, don’t cheer too quickly. In 2006, (Environment Canada’s most recent published figures,) Canadian emissions were 721 million tonnes of greenhouse gas equivalent. Take this hard-won 20 million tonnes of CO2 off the total, and it’s still just over 700 million tonnes. Meanwhile Al Gore’s true believers want to take it all the way down to Canada’s Kyoto target of 558.4 Mt.
We have a long way to go, then.
I actually predicted Canada would hit this point almost two years ago (June 2007) when they passed the Cap and Trade nonsense Obama and the DC liberals are trying to push on America:
The citizens of Canada should be asking their government if, in the event thattheir unscientific plan to stop global warming does not work, they can get all their money back that the government plans to suck from their hides:
The Green party wants Canadian drivers to pay an extra 12 cents a litre at the gas pumps as the price of averting environmental “catastrophe.â€
…
We are modernized and doing a lot of things to keep our part of the world clean and green. It is the populations in China and India which present the largest threat to Earth. They outnumber us 4-1 or more, and they are not modernized and use highly polluting technologies. So that 12 cents people want to take out of your hides at the pump in Canada is not going to do a thing against the army of polluters in India and China doing their thing.
Think about what would happen if America went down this path. And will we have to learn the same crushing lesson before we come to our senses?
Happily governments of both parties have quietly acknowledged the suicidal nature of CO2 restrictions that actually produce significantly less CO2, (as opposed to simply making business pay carbon levies for the privilege of carrying on business-as-usual.) They have also acknowledged in their budgetary allocations, that so-called green industries are no compensation. One has to manufacture an awful lot of windmills to nudge the gross domestic product.
This is what we need to learn from Europe and Canada – not to follow them over an economic cliff!
Update: Meant to add a link to this report on new climate research which indicates much of the climate change (if not all) is natural and not driven by man-made CO2:
“But if we don’t understand what is natural, I don’t think we can say much about what the humans are doing. So our interest is to understand — first the natural variability of climate — and then take it from there. So we were very excited when we realized a lot of changes in the past century from warmer to cooler and then back to warmer were all natural,” Tsonis said.
Which underlines my point of a few days ago that Cap & Trade is an economy killing sham. Â Here is the data, showing increasing CO2 (green line) and declining temperatures. I mean – duh!
Your comment “This is what we need to learn from Europe and Canada – not to follow them over an economic cliff!”
My comment – the economic cliff of which you speak is actually the one that the US Congress foisted on the rest of the world via their social engineering project. That would be the project that advanced the notion that everyone, regardless of ability to pay, has the right to own a home somewhere in sub-prime heaven.
Anyone who watched the congressional faux-outrage regarding AIG bonuses, the Dodd denials followed by his acknowledgment, the continuing circus that is US government can tell you where the problem lies, having just witnessed the problem, and the only connection to CO2 and cap and trade is that members of congress exhale CO2 every time they open their mouths to spew forth some new hypocrisy.
Heh, this winter’s arctic ice is a half meter thicker than at this time last year, too.
And sea level rise stopped in 2006, too. But you wouldn’t know it to hear Gore talk.
AJ said “I actually predicted Canada would hit this point almost two years ago (June 2007) when they passed the Cap and Trade nonsense Obama and the DC liberals are trying to push on America:”
I would like to discover what cap and trade system it is that Canada supposedly passed. Please provide a link.
Oh, come *ON* AJ – a 12 year graph is supposed to prove a long-term trend? How about expanding that last graph out to, say – 100 years? Think we might see something slightly differently then, hmm?
If you’re going to insist on obsessively fighting something that has become a scientific consensus, at least TRY for some intellectual honestly, okay?
GuyFawkes , by “scientific consensus” I assume you are referring to this 2009 International Conference on Climate Change

GuyF, why not? The entire “global warming” scam was based on 10 years of rising temperatures being projected to continue forever.
In 1900 we were recovering from the tail end of the “little ice age” That recovery continued until about the 1920’s. Then we had a warm spell when the PDO went positive and hit record warm temperatures in the 1930’s. Temperatures from the 1940’s until abut 1976 cooled rather impressively as we were in the “cool” phase of the PDO. From 1976 they began to warm when the PDO flipped phase again. In 1998, we had the “mother of all El Nino” events and at about that time, the warming of that year was projected to continue unabated into the future. It was (is) a crock.
It turned out that it never got any warmer than it was in 1998 in that PDO cycle. Temperatures have been dropping since. “Global Warming” was based on drawing a line of the warming from 1976 to 1998 and continuing that line into the future forever on a graph and then concocting the whole CO2 fantasy as the cause of it.
Chuck:
There are skeptics on every scientific concept. That doesn’t change the fact that this is now accepted as fact within the great majority of the scientific community.
GuyFawkes:
Interesting choice of words – scientific concept. I would agree that global warming, climate change are concepts.
The question being debated is are they our current reality.
Global warming zealots like Gore and Hansen will say anything, no matter how outrageous, and true believers will accept without question their pronouncements. This does not qualify as science but looks rather like religion, maybe even radical religion.
Seems to me Hansen was a global cooling advocate before he was a global warming advocate. Wonder what he thinks of the cooling we have experienced over the last 10 years and the 10 – 15 more years of cooling we are likely to experience thanks to the PDO.
Guy:
I read a book entitled the Lost Dinosaurs of Egypt. Do you know that when these creatures walked the average earth temperature was 68 degrees? No polar caps.
Change happens, it is normal. Committing financial and economic suicide just to appease a bunch of hysterics is not going to save us from climate change.
There has been ice at the North Pole for only about the past 2 million years. Before that time, the North Pole was ice free for over 200 million years.
Antarctica has been glaciated for about 15 million years. Most species alive today evolved when there was no ice at the poles and CO2 levels were much higher than today. Corals, for example, evolved when CO2 levels were about 5 times today’s levels.
And just about every single coral on the planet died during the last ice age when sea levels rapidly dropped. The Great Barrier Reef would have been about 400 feet above sea level during the last ice age.
Look at Guy’s choice of words – he doesn’t even understand what the word “Fact” means.
Explains a lot.
(Hint – a “Fact” is not something that you hope is true because some people you agree with politically believe in it.)
WWS:
Short answer – you are a moron.
Longer answer: it is a “fact” that climate change is not accepted as true amongst 100% of the scientific community. But it is also a “fact” that it is accepted amongst the great majority.
The fact that you cannot comprehend a sentence longer than 3 words long, does not make that sentence invalid. Unfortunately, because that previous sentence was longer than 3 words, you won’t understand it. Sad, really.
It is a fact that everyone on this blog considers YOU to be a moron, DumbFawk.
By your rules of consensus, that makes it an indisputable truth.
