Pelosi In Serious Trouble, Her Staff Confirms Her Knowledge of Water Boarding
As I posted yesterday, Pelosi is in serious trouble over what she knew and when regarding water boarding of al Qaeda members and their turning evidence that stopped attacks. Now it is being leaked that her staff (who would be briefed in her absence as her representation) did keep her informed:
A source close to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi now confirms that Pelosi was told in February 2003 by her intelligence aide, Michael Sheehy, that waterboarding was actually used on CIA detainee Abu Zubaydah.
This appears to contradict Pelosi’s account that she was never told waterboarding actually happened, only that the administration was considering using it.
Sheehy attended a briefing in which waterboarding was discussed in February 2003, with Rep. Jane Harman, D-California, who took over Pelosi’s spot as the ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee.
This source says Pelosi didn’t object when she learned that waterboarding was being used because she had not been personally briefed about it — only her aide had been told.
Two things to note. First, the source is close to the Speaker – which means it is coming from her staff. As noted in yesterday’s post, the fact there will be Congressional investigations into Pelosi’s lame claims. I doubt her staff are willing to commit perjury on her behalf to shore up her spin. This could be a preventive move of CYA by the staff, or it could be another attempt to spin this as if Pelosi had no chance to object.
But that is the second thing to note. Pelosi could object at any time. Neither she or her representative had to object at the meeting and then it was a moot mute point. I know from painful experience that Congress can redirect at any point in time of the year.
So this attempt by the media to portray Pelosi as out of the loop is simply their efforts to help save her Speakership – which is in serious trouble. As with most things in DC, it is not the act that kills you, it is the lies to the American people trying to cover up the act that gets you.
So she lied. What is new under the sun with those dems.
AJ, I think you meant moot, not mute. Next, I joined the ranks of those sucking off the Government Teat last month, I cannot wait to see how much I have to give back next year.
Katie, it is the continual lying that is going to make it rough for her. as her followers, I meant voters put 2 and 2 together and realize she is no better than GW on this.
Unless Steny Hoyer is bucking to become Speaker, I see this much ado about nothing. The 52% will forgive her for her one time transgression, and she will win her 2010 re-election handily.
Unless she decides to retire and have fun with the grandkids.
Thanks PJO! I’m a typo generating fiend.
The Main Stream Media will cover for Pelosi as always (Obama 95%), but this is at the heart of the interrogation issue.
Under terrible pressure Bush and the CIA followed the letter of the law and proceeded to get information and save our lives. They did not endlessly debate or allow OJ Simpson’s lawyer to set the definition of terrorist or torture.
Congress was informed and we know because we read the leaks at the time.
Those who opposed Bush have spun and moved the goal posts, leaked and lied, and threatened good men with jail. This was war. On 9/12 it was not a “contingency operation”. Now these gutless wonders deny their own responsibility for making America safe after 9/11.
I guess I agree.
[…] love asking that question of a lying Democrat. She is in huge political trouble – maybe enough to dump her. Okay, I have a rich fantasy […]
This time she might have bitten off more than she can chew. As they say.
[…] I have note many times before (here, here, here and here) this was the wrong fight to pick for Pelosi and the far left. The CIA has […]
